Introduction

The Brutus’ Lead Sprinkler Ancestral Warchief Chieftain is a type of character purely built around a single unique item. The Brutus' Lead Sprinkler Brutus' Lead Sprinkler unique Mace allows you to gain great amounts of Fire damage simply by stacking a lot of Strength on gear and the passive skill tree. With the changes to the passive skill tree in Legion 3.7 this is even easier, and it also allows us to build around Critical Strikes since the Mace has great base Critical Chance.

This totem build has very solid endgame potential both defensively and offensively, it scales extremely well with gear and having your totems leech Life for you is very strong when it comes to being durable in long tough fights.

Build Summary

The only mandatory item is the Brutus' Lead Sprinkler Brutus' Lead Sprinkler. Besides that there are other helpful uniques like Alberon's Warpath Alberon's Warpath, Brawn Brawn, Astramentis Astramentis, Xoph's Blood Xoph's Blood, and others that allow you to reach great amounts of Strength easily. Overall, you can playing the character only with the Mace and gather the currency to gear up as you progress through the game.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Hardcore viable
+ Great endgame potential
+ Totem builds allow for safer playstyle in general

Cons

- The clear speed is a bit slower compared to top tier meta builds

Playstyle

Offensively, dropping a set of totems will be enough to clear nearby packs of monsters. Having good uptime on your Diamond Flask Diamond Flask and Silver Flask Silver Flask will improve your damage output significantly.

Defensively, having a decent Life pool and the Life leech from your totems will keep you safe most of the time. Positioning well is also very important: since you do not have to be near enemies, place your totems between you and the foe and stay in a safe spot.

For playstyle, you will move with your Leap Slam Leap Slam and place a set of totems per monster pack. Save your Vaal Ancestral Warchief Vaal Ancestral Warchief totems for tough single targets and use Enduring Cry Enduring Cry to keep up Endurance charges when you have nothing else to do.

Ascendancy, Passive tree, Bandits and Pantheons

Ascendancy (Marauder – Chieftain)

  1. Tukohama, War’s Herald
  2. Ngamahu, Flame’s Advance
  3. Hinekora, Death’s Fury
  4. Arohongui, Moon’s Presence

Tukohama, War’s Herald improves your Ancestor totems by a great deal, and it provides the very strong Life leech from damage dealt by totems along with totem activation range, which feels very good because ancestor totems have clunky activation range otherwise

Ngamahu, Flame’s Advance is not a very strong node but we have to pick it on our way to Hinekora, Death’s Fury simply because it is stronger than the other choice – Rakamo, Sun’s Light.

Hinekora, Death’s Fury improves your damage by a decent amount by allowing you to Cover Enemies in Ash (reducing their movement speed and increasing the Fire damage they take) and increases your Strength by 10%.

Arohongui, Moon’s Presence makes your totems immune to Fire damage, which allows you to even run Elemental Reflect maps and provides a strong aura that weakens the enemies around your totems.

Passive tree

Here is an example for the endgame passive skill tree for the build. We choose not to pick Blood Magic and Mortal Conviction simply because running Anger Anger in combination with Precision Precision has great synergy with the build and the build does not have any major Mana problems.

Bandits

As in most critical-based builds, we recommend helping Alira for the additional 20% Critical Multiplier and +15% to all Elemental Resistances. This outweighs the two passive skill points that you will receive by killing all the bandits.

Pantheons

Major: Soul of Lunaris – This major god can be upgraded in order to avoid chained projectiles, which is a problem for every totem build. Additionally, the other upgrades and defensive stats prove to be very useful.

Minor: Here it is up to personal preference. Poison immunity via Shakari is always handy. Use Ralakesh when running labyrinths. Other gods can be used too whenever you feel like they can be useful.

Pantheon powers can be upgraded by using Divine Vessel in the Map Device while you are activating the particular Map that contains the boss you need. Once you have killed the boss and captured his soul, you need to deliver the vessel to Sin in Oriath.

Gems

Vaal Ancestral Warchief Vaal Ancestral Warchief is your signature skill, which should ideally be used in a 6-Link. For mobility, you can choose between Shield Charge Shield Charge and Leap Slam Leap Slam. Steelskin Steelskin can help mitigate incoming damage. Anger Anger and Precision Precision is your ideal buff setup. Enduring Cry Enduring Cry or Rallying Cry Rallying Cry can be used as a filler spell.

For all the gem links we provide below, keep in mind that we list the gems in order of priority, meaning that if you lack the required number of sockets to fit all the gems, the first ones to drop are the ones at the bottom. Also note that in-game, as long as the sockets are linked, it makes no difference at all what order the gems are placed in.

Ancestral Warchief (6-Link)

Vaal Ancestral Warchief Vaal Ancestral Warchief is a melee totem that deals damage in area of effect. The vaal version of the totem also has a mobility skill which allows it to move from pack to pack. We recommend one 6-Link that works well for both clearing and single target.

  1. Vaal Ancestral Warchief Vaal Ancestral Warchief
  2. Multiple Totems Support Multiple Totems Support
  3. Elemental Damage with Attacks Support Elemental Damage with Attacks Support
  4. Elemental Focus Support Elemental Focus Support
  5. Pulverise Support Pulverise Support
  6. Ruthless Support Ruthless Support

Here are some suggestions: Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support, Fire Penetration Support Fire Penetration Support, Increased Critical Strikes Support Increased Critical Strikes Support.

Shield Charge (4-Link)

Shield Charge Shield Charge is your mobility skill, which will improve your efficiency in general. When you hit enemies, you will gain the Fortify buff for additional damage mitigation.

  1. Shield Charge Shield Charge
  2. Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support
  3. Fortify Support Fortify Support
  4. Blood Magic Support Blood Magic Support

Steel Skin (2-Link)

Steelskin Steelskin is a Guardian skill that provides a decent shield for a short duration when activated; use this skill manually when you see a big hit incoming.

  1. Steelskin Steelskin
  2. Increased Duration Support Increased Duration Support

Other Gems

You should ideally use Anger Anger and Precision Precision for your Mana reservation buffs. You can socket a non-Linked Leap Slam Leap Slam in order to jump over map terrain that Shield Charge Shield Charge cannot get over. Enduring Cry Enduring Cry or Rallying Cry Rallying Cry can be used whenever you have nothing else to do while your totems are killing tough bosses.

Gearing

Capping your elemental resistances is essential and it should always be your top priority in any build; it should be the first thing you do when gearing up a character. Obtaining a 6-link, while very powerful and certainly recommended, can potentially be very expensive (requiring an average of 1500 Orbs of Fusing, obviously depending on your luck); as such, this should not really be a goal for you while gearing up, and you should instead settle for a 5-link until you have enough resources.

Keep in mind this is a Strength-stacking build so when it comes to gearing, this is what we are mostly focused on.

Helmet

A well rolled rare Helmet is best in slot. When it comes to labyrinth enchant, look for Ancestral Warchief area of effect or damage. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. # to Strength (at least 40)
  4. +#% increased maximum life (Pristine Fossil)
  5. Nearby Enemies have -9% Fire Resistance (Scorched Fossil)

Body Armour

A well rolled rare Body Armour with high Strength roll is best in slot. Unique chest pieces like Loreweave Loreweave and Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast can also be used. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)

  5. Attacks have +#% to Critical Strike Chance (Elder Mod)

Gloves

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 60)
  3. # to Strength (at least 40)

Boots

Alberon's Warpath Alberon's Warpath is best in slot simply because of the huge % Strength it provides. Prior these Boots use a Rare pair with Life, Movement Speed and Resistances.

Belt

Cyclopean Coil Cyclopean Coil is a very cheap and strong belt for the build. Crafting a Rare with % Attributes is also an option, but can be very expensive. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. # to Strength (at least 70)
  4. % increased Attributes (Elder Mod)

Amulet

Xoph's Blood Xoph's Blood will improve your maximum Strength potential by a great deal, and it will also save you two passive points by providing Avatar of Fire for free. Astramentis Astramentis gives a lot of flat Strength. A Rare Amulet can also be very effective for the build. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. # to Strength (70+)
  3. +# to maximum life (at least 50)

Rings

Two well rolled Rings with basically the same mods as Amulet are needed. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. # to Strength ( 30+)
  3. +# to maximum life ( at least 50)

Weapon

The whole build is crafted around the Brutus' Lead Sprinkler Brutus' Lead Sprinkler, which is irreplaceable.

Shield

A well rolled rare Shield is best in slot. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 70)
  3. +1 to maximum number of Summoned Totems
  4. # to Strength (30+)

Flasks

Instant or half instant Divine Life Flask Divine Life Flask is mandatory for the build. As in every other Critical-based build, Diamond Flask Diamond Flask is mandatory. A Quicksilver Flask Quicksilver Flask can be utilized for the additional movement speed. The Wise Oak The Wise Oak will augment your damage by penetrating additional Fire Resistance. Other utility flasks like Basalt Flask Basalt Flask, Silver Flask Silver Flask, or any other based on content and personal preference can be used.

Jewels

There are no mandatory jewels but some can help you achieve even greater amounts of Strength. Brawn Brawn, Emperor's Might Emperor's Might, and Emperor's Mastery Emperor's Mastery all provide % Strength, which will scale your flat amount very efficiently. A Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with Anger Anger and Precision Precision mods can be very powerful but expensive.

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

The build can be leveled up to level 28 by using any items and skills. At level 28, you are able to equip Brutus' Lead Sprinkler Brutus' Lead Sprinkler and start using Vaal Ancestral Warchief Vaal Ancestral Warchief, which ensures a smooth and easy leveling experience.

Leveling Trees

Here is an early version of the passive skill tree that has the foundational nodes the build needs. First you should go for Ancestral Bond and the totem nodes near Scion, then go for Utmost Might and Lava Lash.

Useful Leveling Unique Items

As you begin a new character, there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters.

If you are a new player (or if this is your first character for the league), then note that obtaining these items will be very difficult, if not impossible. They are rare drops, which you can otherwise only acquire if you have saved up currency, so do not focus on them too much, and instead simply look for items that match the affix priorities listed in the gearing section above.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.
