Build Introduction

One of the strongest sides of the Saboteur has always been his high damage potential. With this build, we will be taking down bosses literally within a second or two. Our main skill will be Pyroclast Mine Pyroclast Mine. The more mines you throw at one place, the more projectiles the mines shoot. The main benefits of the Mines is that you end most boss fights before they even begin, as you can prepare an entire minefield before the boss even activates. The clear speed of the build is decent and the defenses are not that bad as we will be having dodge chance and huge life regeneration.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Insane damage against bosses
+ Good clear speed
+ Good league starter
+ Easy to level up
+ Cheap gear to start with

Cons

- Depends too much on Dodge Chance
- Some of the best items might be expensive
- Mine gameplay might be difficult for newer players

Playstyle

As mentioned above, our main skill will be Pyroclast Mine Pyroclast Mine. We will mostly be needing to throw 3-4 mines (sometimes even fewer) to clear an entire pack. However, the trick we will be using is throwing a couple of mines and when we use our Detonate Mines Detonate Mines we will keep throwing newer mines, resulting in a chain reaction and clearing everything in a matter of seconds. When we are facing boss battles, before we activate the encounter we will be preparing the maximum amount of mines possible so when the boss fight begins we simply activate them and he should be dead (however, we will keep throwing more mines just to be sure). The true power of the Mines lie within the chain reaction explosions; due to the high amount of “Trap Throwing Speed” we will just need to explode a couple of mines and than keep throwing more inside of the explosions to create more explosions (once a mine explodes, it detonates all nearby mines). Once you get the handle of that, there is nothing in the game that will be able to survive your damage.

Other than that we will be using Smoke Mine Smoke Mine for mobility and Flammability Flammability to further increase our damage. But mostly, we will be focusing on defensive skills, because that is the weakest point of the build.

Passive tree

Early Game

Your early game passive tree should look like this

Mid Game

The mid game passive tree should look like this

End Game Passive Tree

Your end game build should look like this

Ascendancy – Saboteur

Normal Lab – Pyromaniac

After we complete the Normal Lab we will pick Pyromaniac as it will provide us with some nice Life Regeneration as well as making us immune to Shock and Ignite. It is best to start with Pyromaniac, as we already have enough damage and we need to focus on our defenses.

Cruel Lab – Bomb Specialist

After we complete the Cruel Lab we will pick Bomb Specialist, which will boost our damage as well as our Mine throwing speed by quite a lot.

Merciless Lab – Demolitions Specialist

After we complete the Merciless Lab we will pick Demolitions Specialist . This one gives us almost double damage on our mines.

Eternal Lab – Explosives Expert

Explosives Expert will simply give us some extra Critical Multiplier and Area of Effect increase.

Bandits & Pantheon

Bandits

Help Alira. We benefit from all the bonuses, especially the Critical Multiplier.

Pantheon

Major God

For a major god, the best one is Soul of Solaris, as it reduces the damage we take while there is only one nearby enemy. We will be trying to avoid danger and stay at distance with this build, so this is a great option.

Minor God

For a minor god, the best one is Soul of Tukohama, as it reduces physical damage taken while stationary. Most of the times we will be deploying our mines while stationary, so this one will be helpful.

Gear / Items

Weapons

The weapons and mandatory Uniques here are 2x Void Battery Void Batterys. As always, this option is quite expensive so you can start with Divinarius Divinarius or Heartbreaker Heartbreaker. And if you don’t have the currency to get any of those, use Rare weapons that have some of the following stats:

  1. + % increased Spell Damage
  2. + % Increased Elemental Damage
  3. + % Increased Spell Critical Chance

Helmet

For helmet, the best in slot is Scold's Bridle Scold's Bridle. We won’t be using any skills that cost us Mana and we won’t be needing cast speed in our build, so it is a great option.

Note: All of the Helm Enchantments from the Uber Lab that upgrade our Pyroclast Mine Pyroclast Mine are great options.

Body Armour

The best in slot here would be a Carcass Jack Carcass Jack since it provides us both the defenses and offense we need. However, you can always start with a rare body armour ideally with Evasion or Energy Shield and with the following stats:

  1. + % total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. + % to maximum life
  3. + % Increased Maximum life

Gloves

Here we have another legendary as best in slot – Machina Mitts. Until you obtain it, just use a decent pair of Rare gloves with the following stats:

  1. + % total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. + % to maximum life
  3. + % Increased Maximum Life

Belt

A rare belt is the best option here with the following stats:

  1. + % total Elemental Resistances
  2. + % to maximum life
  3. + % Increased Maximum Life

Boots

One of the best Boots for this build are Atziri's Step Atziri's Step, as they give us decent dodge chance, evasion, and life. However, a great alternative are Rare boots with these stats:

  1. + % total Elemental Resistances
  2. + % to maximum life
  3. + % Movement speed increase
  4. + % Chance to Dodge Attack hits

Rings

The best options for rings are two Rare rings that are either Opal Ring Opal Ring or Diamond Ring Diamond Ring. Look for the following stats on these rings:

  1. + % total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. + % to maximum life
  3. + % increased Fire Damage
  4. + % Increased Global Critical Strike Multiplier
  5. + increased Dexterity (if needed)

Amulet

Here we will have to use the mandatory unique Impresence (Fire) Impresence (Fire), so we can use our Flammability Flammability.

Jewels

We will not be prioritizing any jewels; look for the following stats on your other jewels:

  1. + % Increased Maximum Life
  2. + % increased Spell Damage
  3. + % Increased Fire Damage
  4. + % Increased Area Damage
  5. + % increased Mine Damage

Recommended Unique Jewel is Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with Clarity or Discipline mods.

Flask

Make sure you have good instant regeneration Life Flask. Also make sure you have remove bleeding modifier (of Staunching) on one of your flasks, and remove freezing on another (of Heat). Atziri's Promise Atziri's Promise will increase our damage a lot. A Diamond Flask Diamond Flask is great to have, as it increases our critical chance – try to get one with increased duration support. A Quicksilver Flask Quicksilver Flask is great to increase our clear speed. Make sure you have a good Mana flask as well, just in case.

Be sure to check out our Flask Crafting Guide to learn everything you need to know about how to set up your non-Unique flasks.

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

Use Dash Dash for early mobility, until you get your Smoke Mine Smoke Mine. Start leveling up with Stormblast Mine Stormblast Mine from level 1. Link it with Swift Assembly Support Swift Assembly Support on level 4 you can also link it with either Added Lightning Damage Support Added Lightning Damage Support or Added Cold Damage Support Added Cold Damage Support. On level 12 start using Clarity Clarity. At level 16 you can start using one of the Heralds for extra damage only for a while. At level 18 you can link your Stormblast Mine Stormblast Mine with Trap and Mine Damage Support Trap and Mine Damage Support. At level 28 you can finally start using your Pyroclast Mine Pyroclast Mine. Make sure it is linked with Swift Assembly Support Swift Assembly Support and Charged Mines Support Charged Mines Support and ideally Trap and Mine Damage Support Trap and Mine Damage Support. You can get the Charged Mines Support Charged Mines Support from Siosa Act 3 on level 31. From then on it’s easy. On level 50 you can equip 2x Heartbreaker Heartbreaker‘s if you have them.

As always make sure you keep your resistance and gear updated at all times. Since the build has very low health especially while leveling up, you should make sure you get it from items.

Recommended leveling uniques:

Conclusion

This build is all great all-rounder. It is possibly one of the top damage dealers in the game and it deals with bosses in a matter of seconds. However that comes at the price of having low defenses and relying too much on Dodge and Evasion.
