Gear

Capping your elemental resistances is essential and it should always be your top priority in any build; it should be the first thing you do when gearing up a character. Obtaining a 6-link, while very powerful and certainly recommended, can potentially be very expensive (requiring an average of 1500 Orbs of Fusing, obviously depending on your luck); as such, this should not really be a goal for you while gearing up, and you should instead settle for a 5-link until you have enough resources. You should have two Fight for Survival Fight for Survival unique jewels as soon as possible. Acquiring two Touch of Anguish Touch of Anguish Claws will allow you to start destroying content. These are the only mandatory items for the build.

Helmet

Starkonja's Head Starkonja's Head is a great choice for the build. A rare helmet can also be used. For enchant, look for “#% additional increased Attack Speed granted by Blood Rage”. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (90)
  3. Nearby Enemies have -9% to Cold Resistance (Frigid Fossil Frigid Fossil)

Body Armour

Both Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast and Loreweave Loreweave are great choices for the build. If you choose to play with a rare body armour, look for high Evasion Elder base. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (90)
  3. % Increased Maximum Life (Elder Prefix)
  4. Attacks have +#% to Critical Strike Chance (Elder Suffix)

Gloves

Tombfist Tombfist unique gloves are a great addition to the build. A rare pair of gloves will also do the work. You would preferably want a corrupted pair of gloves with 1 additional maximum Frenzy charge. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (60)
  3. % Increased Attack Speed
  4. Adds # to # Cold Damage to Attacks

Boots

Kaom's Roots Kaom's Roots can be used since you are moving around with Whirling Blades Whirling Blades, which is not affected by movement speed. A rare pair of boots can be also used. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (70)
  3. % increased Movement speed (not mandatory)

Belt

A well rolled Stygian Vise Stygian Vise is best in slot. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (80)
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack Skills (at least 25%)
  4. % increased Cold Damage (Frigid Fossil Frigid Fossil)
  5. % increased Elemental Damage (Prismatic Fossil Prismatic Fossil)

Amulet

The Pandemonius The Pandemonius is a great choice for the build. Aul's Uprising (Dexterity) Aul's Uprising (Dexterity) can also be very powerful if you manage to get a Hatred Hatred mod. Both of these unique amulets can be pricey, if you cannot afford them simply use a rare amulet. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (50)
  3. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks
  4. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack Skills (at least 25%)

Rings

Mark of the Elder Mark of the Elder can be a good addition to the build. Well rolled rare rings are also a great choice for the build, preferably Opal Ring Opal Rings. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (50)
  3. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks
  4. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack Skills (at least 25%)

Weapons

Touch of Anguish Touch of Anguish is the best weapon for the build if you want to achieve great clear speed. If you want to fight endgame bosses with the Frost Blades Raider, you can use well rolled rare physical Claws, look for at least 350pDPS. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. % increased Physical
  2. Flat Physical Damage
  3. % increased Attack Speed
  4. % increased Critical Strike Chance

Flasks

Diamond Flask Diamond Flask is mandatory in every critical-based build. Divine Life Flask Divine Life Flask should used as Instant or half-Instant along with Bleeding Removal suffix. Atziri's Promise Atziri's Promise can provide a lot of damage for the build. Taste of Hate Taste of Hate can provide a lot of offense and defense for the build, but can also be expensive. The Wise Oak The Wise Oak will help you penetrate enemies’ Cold Resistances better, make sure your Cold Resistance is the highest if you choose to use this flask. You can also use any utility flask you prefer, just make sure you have Freeze, Bleed and Curse immunity flasks until you get Avatar of the Veil.

Be sure to check out our Flask Crafting Guide to learn everything you need to know about how to set up your non-Unique flasks.

Jewels

You will need two Fight for Survival Fight for Survival threshold jewels. A Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with Hatred Hatred mods can provide a lot of damage, this jewel can also be very expensive.

Regular Jewel Affix Priority

  1. % increased Maximum Life
  2. % increased Attack Speed while Dual Wielding
  3. % increased Attack Speed with One Handed Melee Weapons
  4. % increased Attack Speed with Claws

Abyssal Jewel Affix Priority

  1. Maximum Life (at least 35)
  2. % chance to gain Onslaught for 4 seconds on Kill
  3. % increased Attack Speed if you’ve dealt a Critical Strike Recently
  4. Added Cold Damage to Attacks and Attacks with Claws

Hey Atix, thanks for the comment. The trees are fixed now, sorry for the inconvenience. We were forced to update most trees before the launch by using poeplanner, which turned out to be an unreliable passive skill tree source. We will be replacing all links with the original PoE passive skill trees soon.

They are both good choices, Raider has better clear speed and mobility for sure, Champion can have better survivability.

Hey GameRuiner, the build is Critical-based. On the endgame passive tree you can see we pick many Critical modifying nodes like Heartseeker, Claws of the Hawk and Assassination.

I’m pretty new to this game and don’t have a ton of experience with builds. I’m messing with this one cause it seemed fun but … I’m having a issue with intelligence required for some of these claws. I have TONS of dex and fairly high str but my int is terrible its like 40ish and I’m level 62? Just trying to figure out how i can get it up enough to be able to use touch of anguish at level 68

Hey, you can get great amounts of Intelligence (40+) on Rings, Amulet and Helmet.

Try picking up Winter Spirit early on(passive tree node). In the late game you can get Cold conversion on rare Gloves(crafted via Betrayals) or simply use Hrimsorrow Hrimsorrow

You could really add more depth to the guide, especially for the gearing section. An example for a full set of items that you are using would help tremendously. Also adding more affixes to list of desirable mods for different gear. On a side note, is the increase in damage much better with the FB jewel or could I just use a regular one with really good rolls?

Hey, I strongly recommend using the Fight for Survival Fight for Survival unique jewels, mainly because they provide an immense amount of Cold Penetration. I will make sure to improve the gearing section and at least add some more recommended affixes.

Hey, I’m a new player, so I’m probably not understanding something, but in the gem slot on the passive tree next to Golem’s Blood I’m not seeing 40 dex in the medium gem radius—so how do you get the full benefits of the Fight for Survival gem?

Hey, place Fight for Survival Fight for Survival next to the Heartseeker node.

In the guide you say to use two—so how does that work with the second one? Sorry, again very new here.

    Hello, Vvckd!

Quick question(s), wouldn’t a Vaal pact benefit the build?

Are we building around evasion (crit is clear)? And if so, then why choose these boots?
