Introduction

The Ignite Incinerate Elementalist specializes in burning enemies to death with channelled Fire damage. Incinerate Incinerate is a channelling Fire spell that deals initial damage and then releases a powerful wave of Fire that has 100% Chance to Ignite. You can easily clear trash mobs by simply channelling and then release the powerful final wave in order to apply a strong Ignite on tough rares or bosses.

For the ascendancy class we choose Elementalist, simply because it has great synergy with Ignite overall, and since we are not Critical-based it is better than Inquisitor. Trickster is also a good choice but as the Elementalist we gain more value from all the skills and gem setups we choose to use.

Build Summary

The build is super budget-friendly and can even be used as a league-starter. Depending on the Ignite very early on can feel kind of clunky, but once you hit level 38 and you can use Ignite Proliferation Support Ignite Proliferation Support you are ready to heavily invest into it. When it comes to endgame item choices, The Searing Touch The Searing Touch is a great weapon for the build. Having your main skill in the weapon also allows you to use Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart for a greater Life pool. Acquiring the Helmet enchant for Incinerate Incinerate can also be very beneficial for your overall damage potential. Of course, these are only recommendations and the build works properly without any of them.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Hardcore viable
+ Good endgame potential
+ Cheap to start

Cons

- DoT builds are not for everyone
- Does not have great Life sustain

Playstyle

Offensively, your goal is to Ignite a pack of monsters, which will die shortly after. For tougher rares and bosses you can drop down Storm Brand Storm Brand, which will lower enemies’ elemental resistances by a great deal via the Elemental Overload keystone and Curse on Hit gem setup. Flame Dash Flame Dash will allow you to move around quickly.

Defensively, having a decent Life pool and good use of Steelskin Steelskin will allow you to survive hairy situations. Playing a DoT build allows you to hit once every couple of seconds and then be very mobile, dodging lethal game mechanics etc.

For playstyle, most of the time you will burn down enemies without worrying about dropping down Storm Brand. When you encounter tankier enemies, simply charge up a maximum stage Incinerate Incinerate in order to apply a strong Ignite.

Ascendancy, Passive Tree, Bandits and Pantheons

Ascendancy (Witch – Elementalist)

  1. Pendulum of Destruction
  2. Mastermind of Discord
  3. Shaper of Desolation
  4. Beacon of Ruin

Pendulum of Destruction will improve your damage and clear speed based on the timer of the ability.

Mastermind of Discord will augment Herald of Ash Herald of Ash by a great deal, while also providing you additional 25% Fire Penetration.

Shaper of Desolation will allow you to utilize not just Ignite, but all elemental ailments in certain situations.

Beacon of Ruin provides a lot of extra damage for the build.

Passive Tree

Here is what your endgame passive skill tree should look like. We manage to achieve 180%+ Increased Maximum Life, which is very respectable for a Life-based caster build. We also pick all the efficient Fire and Burning damage nodes on the tree along with Elemental Overload, which has great uptime because of how frequently Incinerate Incinerate and Storm Brand Storm Brand hit.

Bandits

Considering the build is not Critical-based, we choose to kill all bandits for the 2 passive skill tree points. There is no better choice for the build when it comes to the Act II Deal with the Bandits quest.

Pantheons

Major: All major gods are beneficial to the build and can be used. We recommend using Soul of Solaris, when fully upgraded, as this Pantheon power provides a solid amount of defense.

Minor: Same as major gods, minors are all useful too. We recommend using Soul of Ryslatha for the additional Life flask charges.

Pantheon powers can be upgraded by using Divine Vessel in the Map Device while you are activating the particular Map that contains the boss you need. Once you’ve killed the boss and captured his soul, you need to deliver the vessel to Sin in Oriath.

Gems

Incinerate Incinerate is your signature skill, which should ideally be used in a 6-Link. For mobility, use Flame Dash Flame Dash. Storm Brand Storm Brand is used as utility skill in order to trigger Elemental Equilibrium, Elemental Overload and a Curse on Hit. Scorching Ray Scorching Ray Totems can be used to lower enemies’ Fire Resistance even further.

For all the gem links we provide below, keep in mind that we list the gems in order of priority, meaning that if you lack the required number of sockets to fit all the gems, the first ones to drop are the ones at the bottom. Also note that in-game, as long as the sockets are linked, it makes no difference at all what order the gems are placed in.

Incinerate (6-Link)

Incinerate Incinerate is your signature skill, it is used in order to inflict very strong Ignites upon enemies. Channelling for a short duration will be enough to clear regular packs of monsters. When you encounter a tougher foe, you should aim to charge up the skill to its maximum stages.

  1. Incinerate Incinerate
  2. Ignite Proliferation Support Ignite Proliferation Support
  3. Infused Channelling Support Infused Channelling Support
  4. Controlled Destruction Support Controlled Destruction Support
  5. Deadly Ailments Support Deadly Ailments Support
  6. Burning Damage Support Burning Damage Support

Storm Brand (4-Link)

Storm Brand Storm Brand is used in order to trigger Elemental Overload frequently, along with lowering the enemies’ Fire Resistances by a great deal with the following link.

  1. Storm Brand Storm Brand

  1. Flame Dash Flame Dash
  2. Faster Casting Support Faster Casting Support
  3. Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support (level 5)

Scorching Ray (4-Link)

The following Scorching Ray Scorching Ray link will summon totems that cast the skill in order to reduce enemeis’ Fire Resistance by additional 24%.

  1. Scorching Ray Scorching Ray
  2. Spell Totem Support Spell Totem Support
  3. Multiple Totems Support Multiple Totems Support
  4. Faster Casting Support Faster Casting Support

Other Gems

Malevolence Malevolence and Herald of Ash Herald of Ash should be active all the time. A Golem gem can be used based on personal preference. Steelskin Steelskin can be used for the additional damage mitigation. You will still have some free sockets if you want to improvise.

Gearing

Capping your elemental resistances is essential and it should always be your top priority in any build; it should be the first thing you do when gearing up a character. Obtaining a 6-link, while very powerful and certainly recommended, can potentially be very expensive (requiring an average of 1500 Orbs of Fusing, obviously depending on your luck); as such, this should not really be a goal for you while gearing up, and you should instead settle for a 5-link until you have enough resources.

The Searing Touch The Searing Touch is a relatively cheap unique staff that provides tons of damage for the build. Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart will improve your survivability by a great deal. The Wise Oak The Wise Oak will improve single target damage potential by a decent amount, make sure your Fire Resistance is the highest.

Helmet

A rare Helmet is best in slot. The Incinerate Incinerate Helmet enchant for 2 additional maximum stages is best for the build. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % Increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil Pristine Fossil)
  4. Nearby Enemies have -9% to Fire Resistance (Scorched Fossil Scorched Fossil)

Body Armour

Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart is best in slot for the build. Before it you can use Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast,Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa and Skin of the Loyal Skin of the Loyal. Any rare Body Armour with Life and Resistances will also do the work. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 100)
  3. % Increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil Pristine Fossil; Elder Prefix)

Gloves

Rare Gloves are best in slot. You can use Gripped Gloves Gripped Gloves or Fingerless Silk Gloves Fingerless Silk Gloves as base for the additional implicit damage. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)

Boots

Rare Boots are best in slot since there are no particularly powerful unique ones. For labyrinth enchant, look for “Damage Penetrates #% Elemental Resistances if you haven’t Killed Recently” or “% increased Attack and Cast Speed if you’ve Killed Recently”. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % Increased Movement Speed (at least 25%)
  4. % Increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil Pristine Fossil)

Belt

A well rolled rare Belt is best in slot, use Stygian Vise Stygian Vise for a base if you can. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % increased Fire Damage (Scorched Fossil Scorched Fossil)
  4. % increased Elemental Damage (Prismatic Fossil Prismatic Fossil)

Amulet

There is no particularly powerful unique Amulet for the build, simply use a well rolled rare one. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 50)
  3. % Increased Fire Damage
  4. % Increased Spell Damage
  5. # to Dexterity; Strength

Rings

Well rolled Ventor's Gamble Ventor's Gamble can be used. Instead you can always use well rolled rare rings. Once you are well capped on resists, you can use Opal Ring Opal Rings as crafting bases for additional damage. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 50)
  3. % Increased Fire Damage
  4. % increased Damage with Ailments (Corroded Fossil Corroded Fossil)
  5. % increased Elemental Damage (Prismatic Fossil Prismatic Fossil)
  6. # to Dexterity; Strength

Weapon

The Searing Touch The Searing Touch is great endgame choice and it will be very hard to replace it. The Rare affix priority is:

  1. +2 to Level of Socketed Fire Gems
  2. +1 to Level of Socketed Gems
  3. +1 to Level of Socketed Intelligence Gems (Faceted Fossil Faceted Fossil)
  4. % Increased Spell Damage (at least 60%)
  5. Adds # to # Fire Damage to Spells

Flasks

Using a Divine Life Flask Divine Life Flask is mandatory for the build; ideally you would want to roll it half-instant with Bleeding removal Suffix. Quicksilver Flask Quicksilver Flask will improve your mobility by a great deal. The Wise Oak The Wise Oak will help you penetrate more Fire Resistances, as long as your Fire Resistance is the higher than your Cold and Lightning resistance. For the other two flask slots you can improvise, we recommend using Basalt Flask Basalt Flask and Granite Flask Granite Flask flasks for the additional defense. Make sure you roll Curse and Freeze immunity on utility flasks in order to prevent deaths from Strongboxes and maps with Curses in general.

Be sure to check out our Flask Crafting Guide to learn everything you need to know about how to set up your non-Unique flasks.

Jewels

There are no mandatory jewels for the build. Regular rare jewels are more powerful than Abyssal ones in general for this particular build.

Regular Jewel Affix Priority

  1. % Increased Maximum Life
  2. % increased Fire Damage
  3. % increased Area Damage
  4. % increased Damage
  5. % increased Burning Damage
  6. % increased Spell Damage while wielding a Staff
  7. % increased Cast Speed while wielding a Staff
  8. % increased Cast Speed with Fire Skills

Abyssal Jewel Affix Priority

  1. Chance to gain Onslaught for 4 seconds on Kill (at least 4%)
  2. Maximum Life (at least 35)
  3. Adds # to # Fire damage to Spells

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

You can level with Incinerate Incinerate and rely on Ignite from the beginning, but it might feel clunky, since the Ignite mechanic scales well into late game. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will carry you until you are able to wield The Searing Touch The Searing Touch.

Leveling Trees

This is the passive skill tree you should follow early on. First, you should head to Heart of Flame and Breath of Flames, then pick Explosive Impact and Purity of Flesh. After that pick Elemental Overload and the life and damage nodes near the Templar starting area.

Useful Leveling Unique Items

As you begin a new character, there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters. Lifesprig Lifesprig will boost your damage by a great deal early on.

If you are a new player (or if this is your first character for the league), then note that obtaining these items will be very difficult, if not impossible. They are rare drops, which you can otherwise only acquire if you have saved up currency, so do not focus on them too much, and instead simply look for items that match the affix priorities listed in the gearing section above.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.

In order to acquire gems that are not available to your class as a quest reward, simply ask a friend to buy them off vendors for you, or buy them yourself from Sioasa in The Library in Act III Library.

From level 1, you should use the following link.

  1. Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse

At level 8, your Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse link should look like this.

  1. Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse
  2. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support

FAQ

What map mods are impossible to do?

You will most likely one-shot yourself on Elemental Reflect. No Regeneration maps will also be very hard to do and will force you to use a Mana flask. Besides that everything else should be fine as long as you don’t have too many nasty mods on the same map.

Why Elementalist and not Trickster?

The Elementalist allows us to take advantage of Chill and Shock and has more Fire Penetration. The Witch also has an advantage on the passive skill tree with its starting point compared to Shadow (for this particular build).

Conclusion

The Ignite Incinerate Elementalist specializes in inflicting very strong damage over time Burn effects on enemies. If you like the sorcerer play style of casting powerful magic this build might suit you well.
