Introduction

The Inquisitor ascendancy class is not your ordinary choice when it comes to Bow builds. In this guide we utilize the Inquisitor in order to penetrate enemies’ resistances via Inevitable Judgement. The build uses Lightning Arrow Lightning Arrow for clearing and Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot for single target damage output.

Windripper Windripper is one of the best choices for the build, since it has great Attack Speed and Critical Chance, and the elemental damage it provides is also very decent. The build scales very well with gear, which can be expensive later on, which is why it is not budget-friendly.

Realistically, The Shrapnel Shot/Lightning Arrow Inquisitor has the potential to clear any content in the game. In the endgame, you will be able to achieve at least 6,5K Life while also using Acrobatics.

Build Summary

The bulk of the damage for the build comes from gear, although even on a low budget you can do fine since you will get enough damage from auras/buffs for early maps. Windripper Windripper is one of the best choices for the Weapon slot. Since you need a second link on Lightning Arrow Lightning Arrow only for clearing; you can swap your Body Armour with Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart for additional survivability when facing tough bosses.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Hardcore viable
+ Fun playstyle
+ Decent clear speed

Cons

- Can be expensive

Playstyle

Offensively, one or two shots of Lightning Arrow Lightning Arrow will be enough to clear most monster packs. When fighting tough foes, staying near them will ensure you will melt them with Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot, while also utilizing the Point Blank keystone notable. Keeping up Blood Rage Blood Rage will increase your clear speed further.

Defensively, you will mostly rely on Acrobatics and your decent Life pool for survivability. Vaal Grace Vaal Grace can be used for the additional Dodge Chance in sticky situations. Decoy Totem Decoy Totem will take the pressure off you for certain duration.

For playstyle, having good uptime on your Diamond flask will ensure you deal the maximum amount of damage, since it is very important to Critically Strike with this build. Use Lightning Arrow Lightning Arrow for clearing and stay near bosses and shotgun them with Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot.

Ascendancy, Passive tree, Bandits and Pantheons

Ascendancy (Templar – Inquisitor)

  1. Righteous Providence
  2. Inevitable Judgement
  3. Instruments of Virtue
  4. Augury of Patience

Righteous Providence will improve your critical strikes, and this is the first step in transitioning to critical strikes.

Inevitable Judgement is the reason Inquisitor is so powerful; ignoring enemy elemental resistances with critical strikes is very powerful, especially against bosses.

Augury of Patience provides great balance between defense and offense.

Instruments of Virtue will provide additional Attack Speed and Attack damage.

Passive tree

Here is the endgame passive skill tree, which can be modified based on personal preference. The two main keystone notables we pick are Point Blank and Acrobatics. Besides that we focus on Life, efficient Bow and Accuracy nodes. A single point in Mana Leech near the Ranger solves our mana problems.

Bandits

For this specific build we should help Alira in Act II. The critical multiplier, flat mana regeneration, and 15% all elemental resistances are stronger than the 2 passive skill points.

Pantheons

Major: All major Pantheon powers can be beneficial for the build, although Soul of Solaris is probably the best choice in general.

Minor: Same as major Pantheons, all minor ones are useful for the build. We recommend Soul of Gruthkul, which improves physical damage mitigation.

Gems

Since you have the opportunity to do so, you should use two 6-links, one in your Bow and one in your Body Armour, for Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot and Lightning Arrow Lightning Arrow. For mobility, use Blink Arrow Blink Arrow. Blood Rage Blood Rage will provide additional Attack Speed and Frenzy charge generation. Decoy Totem Decoy Totem can be very useful in certain situations. A combination of Anger Anger, Wrath Wrath, Herald of Thunder Herald of Thunder, and Herald of Ice Herald of Ice can be used.

For all the gem links we provide below, keep in mind that we list the gems in order of priority (starting from the top left, going to the right on each row of the links), meaning that if you lack the required number of sockets to fit all the gems, the first ones to drop are the ones at the bottom (with the bottom right being the last). Also note that in-game, as long as the sockets are linked, it makes no difference at all what order the gems are placed in.

Shrapnel Shot (6-Link)

Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot is a Bow skill that fires a projectile which then deals damage in a cone in front of you. Staying near enemies will ensure you are doing the most damage possible. This is your single target skill.

  1. Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot
  2. Elemental Focus Support Elemental Focus Support
  3. Elemental Damage with Attacks Support Elemental Damage with Attacks Support
  4. Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support
  5. Added Cold Damage Support Added Cold Damage Support
  6. Added Lightning Damage Support Added Lightning Damage Support

Lightning Arrow (6-Link)

Lightning Arrow Lightning Arrow is a Bow skill that excels at clearing large packs of monsters.

  1. Lightning Arrow Lightning Arrow
  2. Greater Multiple Projectiles Support Greater Multiple Projectiles Support
  3. Pierce Support Pierce Support
  4. Elemental Damage with Attacks Support Elemental Damage with Attacks Support
  5. Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support

Blink Arrow (2-Link)

Blink Arrow Blink Arrow is a Bow mobility skill that can save you when you need to dodge lethal game mechanics; keep in mind that it has a long cooldown.

  1. Blink Arrow Blink Arrow
  2. Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support

Other Gems

For auras, you can use Anger Anger for more consistent damage or Wrath Wrath in order to shock regular packs and Rares better. Herald of Ice Herald of Ice or Herald of Thunder Herald of Thunder should be used in combination with one of the big auras. Decoy Totem Decoy Totem should be used against tougher foes. Blood Rage Blood Rage should be socketed by itself and used in order to augment your damage output even further. Vaal Grace Vaal Grace and Steelskin Steelskin will help out in sticky situations.

Gearing

Capping your elemental resistances is essential and it should always be your top priority in any build; it should be the first thing you do when gearing up a character. Obtaining a 6-link, while very powerful and certainly recommended, can potentially be very expensive (requiring an average of 1500 Orbs of Fusing, obviously depending on your luck); as such, this should not really be a goal for you while gearing up, and you should instead settle for a 5-link until you have enough resources.

Helmet

Starkonja's Head Starkonja's Head and Rat's Nest Rat's Nest are two of the best unique Helmets you can use. A well rolled rare Helmet also works just fine. For labyrinth enchant, look for Blood Rage Blood Rage additional Attack Speed or any other enchant of your liking. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (80)
  3. % increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil Pristine Fossil)
  4. # to Intelligence

Body Armour

When clearing, you should use a well rolled Evasion-based rare Body Armour. Against tough bosses you should swap it with Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (80)
  3. % increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil Pristine Fossil; Elder Prefix)
  4. Attacks have +#% to Critical Strike Chance (Elder Suffix)
  5. % of Physical Damage taken as Cold Damage (Essence of Horror Essence of Horror)

Gloves

Oskarm Oskarm is one of the best unique choices when it comes to the Gloves slot. Tombfist Tombfist will provide additional damage via the Abyssal jewels. A well rolled pair of rare gloves is also a good choice. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (60)
  3. % increased Attack Speed
  4. # to Accuracy Rating (at least 300)

Boots

Well rolled rare boots are best in slot. Having decent movement speed on boots is very important for archer builds, since they do not have a reliable mobility skill. For labyrinth enchant, look for Leech or Movement Speed if you haven’t been hit recently. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (80)
  3. % increased Movement Speed (at least 30%)

Belt

A well rolled Stygian Vise Stygian Vise outclasses other Belt choices. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (80)
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack skills (at least 25%)
  4. % increased Elemental Damage (Prismatic Fossil Prismatic Fossil)

Amulet

A well rolled Amulet is best in slot. In this item slot you should fill attribute requirements. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (50)
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack skills (at least 25%)
  4. % to Global Critical Multiplier

Rings

Well rolled rare rings are best in slot. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (50)
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack skills (at least 25%)
  4. # to Accuracy Rating (at least 300)

Weapon

Windripper Windripper is one of the best Bow choices for this build. A well rolled elemental Bow can also be used but it will probably be very expensive and not worth it. The rare affix priority is:

  1. % increased Attack Speed (at least 1,6 APS)
  2. % increased Critical Chance (at least 7% local)
  3. Flat Elemental damage to Attacks

Quiver

A rare Quiver will allow you to fill resistance gaps and get some more Life and damage. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistance (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (80)
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attack skills (at least 25%)
  4. % to Global Critical Multiplier

Flasks

Diamond Flask is mandatory in every Critical-based build; this is a good flask to have Curse or Freeze immunity on. Divine Life Flask should used as Instant or half-Instant along with Bleeding Removal suffix. For the other flask slots we recommend using Basalt, Silver and a Quicksilver flask. Make sure you have Bleeding, Curse and Freezing immunity on your flasks.

Jewels

Collateral Damage Collateral Damage is the Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot threshold jewel. You should be using two of these unique jewels for great single target damage output. In other slots you should prioritize Abyssal jewels over Regular jewels.

Regular Jewel Affix Priority

  1. % increased Maximum Life
  2. % increased Critical Multiplier/ with Elemental Skills
  3. % increased Attack Speed/ with Bows
  4. % increased Projectile Damage

Abyssal Jewel Affix Priority

  1. Maximum Life (at least 35)
  2. Flat Elemental damage to Attacks/ with Bows

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

The build can be leveled with some unique Bows easily, by using Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot all the way.

Leveling Trees

The early passive skill tree is very straight forward. You should start by going for Acrobatics, picking all the Life and damage on the way. Having two jewel sockets near Dexterity nodes in important for the two Collateral Damage Collateral Damage nodes. Once you have Windripper Windripper equipped, you can start investing into Critical Strike nodes.

Useful Leveling Unique Items

As you begin a new character, there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters. Storm Cloud Storm Cloud and The Tempest The Tempest will provide enough damage in order to deal with the game content up until you are ready to equip Windripper Windripper.

If you are a new player (or if this is your first character for the league), then note that obtaining these items will be very difficult, if not impossible. They are rare drops, which you can otherwise only acquire if you have saved up currency, so do not focus on them too much, and instead simply look for items that match the affix priorities listed in the gearing section above.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.

In order to acquire gems that are not available to your class as a quest reward, simply ask a friend to buy them off vendors for you, or buy them yourself from Sioasa in The Library in Act III Library.

From level 1, you should use the following link.

  1. Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot
  2. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support

At level 4, you should pick Decoy Totem Decoy Totem.

  2. Added Cold Damage Support Added Cold Damage Support
  3. Added Lightning Damage Support Added Lightning Damage Support

At level 10, you should pick Blink Arrow Blink Arrow for additional mobility.

  1. Shrapnel Shot Shrapnel Shot

  3. Added Lightning Damage Support Added Lightning Damage Support
  4. Elemental Damage with Attacks Support Elemental Damage with Attacks Support
  5. Elemental Focus Support Elemental Focus Support
  6. Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support

At level 24, you should add Anger Anger for more consistent damage.
