Toxic Rain Mines Saboteur Ascendancy, Bandits, and Pantheon Powers

Ascendancy (Shadow – Saboteur)

  1. Bomb Specialist
  2. Born in the Shadows
  3. Pyromaniac
  4. Explosives Expert

Bomb Specialist provides a hell of a lot of AoE, which as mentioned on the main page not only scales our clear, but also allows for more consistent overlapping pods, thus improving single-target. The throwing speed here is also very very helpful for making the clear feel smooth. Take this node first.

Born in the Shadows is a core defensive tool, not only providing free consistent blind, but also generic damage reduction. Take either this or Pyromaniac second.

Pyromaniac helps solve Mana problems, while also providing the bulk of the recovery in the build. Ignite and Shock immunity are a nice bonus.

Explosives Expert is the least impactful node of our 4 choices, as we can’t use the Shock, Ignite, or Chill synergies. Reduced area damage taken is pretty solid, however, and 30% AoE represents both clear and single-target with Toxic Rain Toxic Rain. The other options here also don’t really do anything of note, as the Hinder from Demolitions Specialist is minimal and can eventually even be replaced with Aspect of the Spider in a min-maxed build, and the 100% effect of auras does nothing as we aren’t able to use High-Impact Mine Support High-Impact Mine Support, and thus don’t have an aura to scale. Perfect Crime is entirely devoted to traps, not mines, so doesn’t make sense either. Take Explosives Expert last.

Trickster is a moderately popular option for Toxic Rain in general, and even for this kind of build in particular. Personally, I value the sheer AOE and mine-throwing speed that Saboteur offers too much to be willing to go Trickster, but if you plan on being CI eventually, Trickster is a solid option defensively, with less smooth mapping and less potential for overlap for single-target.

Bandits

Kill all of the Bandits. Two passive points is by far the most valuable reward we can claim here.

Pantheons

Major God

As with any build that doesn’t have outright stun immunity, Soul of the Brine King is an excellent defensive choice. For endgame boss fights, however, I prefer to swap to Soul of Solaris.

Minor God

For minor powers, I will usually have either Soul of Abberath enabled to deal with burning ground from Metamorphs or Blights, or I’ll have Soul of Shakari if my Chaos Resistance isn’t up to snuff yet.

Pantheon powers can be upgraded by using a Divine Vessel Divine Vessel in the Map Device while you are activating the particular Map that contains the boss you need. Once you’ve killed the boss and captured his soul, you need to deliver the vessel to Sin in Oriath.

Yep! If you have the patience for it, you can stop in the Foothills in act 9 to farm the Imperial Legacy div cards to get your six link bow, and then alteration spam for +2 bow gems. Everything else can easily just be a rare item with life and resistances to begin with, so it’s very ssf friendly.

What’s the point of playing saboteur when you can play trickster and scale the dot even higher and get ghost shrouds

    Hey man great guide!

Say do you think any of those alternate quality gems could benefit this build?

Toxic Rain additional arrow quality is really good. Withering applies additional debuffs is also really really solid. Those would be my priorities.

quick question, does the explicit on a bow that specifies that bow attacks fire an additional arrow have any value here? I’m mainly asking because I have a thicket bow with that modifier locked into it from heist drops and wondered whether alteration spamming for +2 to socketed bow gems would be a good option or would that affix be locking the other out? (after playing with PoB and being less lazy the bow gems is a prefix and the extra arrow is a suffix so the first question still intrigues me :) )
((After going back and being less blind I have read in the guide about additional arrows, if i have 3 ascensions on the build would the extra arrow be worth it or should I only bother once the 4th ascension is acquired?))
Also i have an aspect of the spider quiver is it worth using or should i just try and get it on another piece of the build?

PS This is my favourite miner variant so far and i’ve experimented with a fair few. this one just really feels smooth to play and impactful especially when you get the det chain just right (if you even hang around to see the hp bar drop that is) many thanks for sharing it :))

It can be a little tough to fit in aspect of the spider, but if you can get enough sources of reduced mana reserved it is absolutely great.

As far as extra arrows are concerned, they are never detrimental, they will always at least help your clear. For single-target, however, they are only relevant if you can get quite a bit of AOE, so you might not feel a dps increase. Still worthwhile for the clear, though, I’d say.

    So i dont need a 6l chest?

I didn’t find any real use for a second six link in the build, so I didn’t bother. Instead, I bought much cheaper six socketed kintsugis and double corrupted them for good implicits.
