Ascendancy (Shadow – Saboteur)
- Bomb Specialist
- Born in the Shadows
- Explosives Expert
Bomb Specialist provides a hell of a lot of AoE, which as mentioned on the main page not only scales our clear, but also allows for more consistent overlapping pods, thus improving single-target. The throwing speed here is also very very helpful for making the clear feel smooth. Take this node first.
Born in the Shadows is a core defensive tool, not only providing free consistent blind, but also generic damage reduction. Take either this or Pyromaniac second.
Pyromaniac helps solve Mana problems, while also providing the bulk of the recovery in the build. Ignite and Shock immunity are a nice bonus.
Explosives Expert is the least impactful node of our 4 choices, as we can’t use the Shock, Ignite, or Chill synergies. Reduced area damage taken is pretty solid, however, and 30% AoE represents both clear and single-target with Toxic Rain. The other options here also don’t really do anything of note, as the Hinder from Demolitions Specialist is minimal and can eventually even be replaced with Aspect of the Spider in a min-maxed build, and the 100% effect of auras does nothing as we aren’t able to use High-Impact Mine Support, and thus don’t have an aura to scale. Perfect Crime is entirely devoted to traps, not mines, so doesn’t make sense either. Take Explosives Expert last.
Trickster is a moderately popular option for Toxic Rain in general, and even for this kind of build in particular. Personally, I value the sheer AOE and mine-throwing speed that Saboteur offers too much to be willing to go Trickster, but if you plan on being CI eventually, Trickster is a solid option defensively, with less smooth mapping and less potential for overlap for single-target.
of the Bandits. Two passive points is by far the most valuable reward we can claim here.
As with any build that doesn’t have outright stun immunity, Soul of the Brine King is an excellent defensive choice. For endgame boss fights, however, I prefer to swap to Soul of Solaris.
For minor powers, I will usually have either Soul of Abberath enabled to deal with burning ground from Metamorphs or Blights, or I’ll have Soul of Shakari if my Chaos Resistance isn’t up to snuff yet.
Pantheon powers can be upgraded by using a Divine Vessel in the Map Device while you are activating the particular Map that contains the boss you need. Once you’ve killed the boss and captured his soul, you need to deliver the vessel to Sin in Oriath.
