Toxic Rain Pathfinder Gear, Jewels, and Flasks

Gear

Capping your elemental resistances is essential and it should always be your top priority in any build; it should be the first thing you do when gearing up a character. Obtaining a 6-link, while very powerful and certainly recommended, can potentially be very expensive (requiring an average of 1500 Orbs of Fusing, obviously depending on your luck); as such, this should not really be a goal for you while gearing up, and you should instead settle for a 5-link until you have enough resources.

Helmet

Rare helmet is the best choice. Any Toxic Rain Toxic Rain helm enchant is useful, although the additional projectile is best. Look for a high evasion base like Lion Pelt Lion Pelt. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)

Body armour

Cherrubim's Maleficence Cherrubim's Maleficence is the best in slot for the build due to the fact it provides a lot of chaos damage, decent life and evasion rating. Although it should be cheap and easy to obtain, prior to it you can use Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa or any rare base. Dendrobate Dendrobate can also be considered, although it is hard to cap the required dexterity/intelligence and the chest provides no life. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 100)

Gloves

Fenumus' Weave Fenumus' Weave is a great choice for the build, although it may be very hard to obtain and expensive. Instead you can just use a rare pair of well rolled gloves. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 70)
  3. % increasedAttack speed
  4. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks

Note: It is recommended to look for corrupted gloves with Temporal Chains Temporal Chains on hit.

Boots

No particular unique boots are best in slot for the build. Atziri's Step Atziri's Step can be considered a good unique option. Look for a well rolled rare boots with enchant for additional attack speed if you’ve killed recently. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 70)
  3. % increased Movement Speed

Belt

We need a rare belt, preferably Leather Belt Leather Belt or Stygian Vise Stygian Vise. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % increased Chaos Damage (aAberrant Fossil Aberrant Fossil)

Amulet

For the amulet slot we need a decently rolled one on which we can craft additional flat chaos damage via the master crafting. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 60)
  3. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks

Rings

If you manage to get curse on hit gloves with Temporal Chains Temporal Chains and you run Witchfire Brew Witchfire Brew you can use Doedre's Damning Doedre's Damning in order to have both curses up at the same time. If that is not the case just look for rare rings with crafted flat amount of chaos damage, same as the amulet. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 60)
  3. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks
  4. % increased Chaos Damage (suffix, crafted via crafting bench)
  5. Added Chaos damage to attacks (prefix, crafted via crafting bench)

Weapon

Darkscorn Darkscorn and Quill Rain Quill Rain are two very solid endgame choices. Prior to it you can use many unique Bows like Death's Harp Death's Harp, Infractem Infractem and Lioneye's Glare Lioneye's Glare. Any rare Bow with additional physical damage and decent attack speed works too.

Quiver

Maloney's Nightfall Maloney's Nightfall is the best quiver for the build. Prior to it use a quiver in order to cap resists, have life and maybe some physical damage. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. Adds # to # Physical Damage to Attacks

Flasks

Quicksilver Flask Quicksilver Flask improves the speed of the build a lot. Silver Flask Silver Flask provides Onslaught which is very handy, but can be dropped if you have an abyssal jewel for that purpose. Depending on personal preference you can run a Mana flask if you have Mana problems, although this should not be the case. Witchfire Brew Witchfire Brew provides a great amount of damage to the build. Coralito's Signature Coralito's Signature can be used for the additional poison duration. Instant or 50% instant Divine Life Flask Divine Life Flask is mandatory for the build, it is recommended to have your bleed removal on it. Instead of the Silver and Mana flasks you can run any of the following utility flasks: Jade Flask Jade Flask, Quartz Flask Quartz Flask, Basalt Flask Basalt Flask, Ruby Flask Ruby Flask, Sapphire Flask Sapphire Flask and Topaz Flask Topaz Flask.

Be sure to check out our Flask Crafting Guide to learn everything you need to know about how to set up your non-Unique flasks.

Jewels

There are no unique jewels required for the build. Look for well rolled regular and Abyssal jewels.

Regular Jewel Affix Priority

  1. % Increased Maximum life
  2. % Increased Projectile damage
  3. % Increased Poison Damage
  4. % Increased Chaos damage
  5. % Increased Physical damage
  6. % Increased Attack speed/Attack speed with bows

Abyssal Jewel Affix Priority

  1. # to Maximum life (at least 35)
  2. Adds # to # Physical damage to Attacks
  3. Adds # to # Physical damage to Attacks with Bows
  4. Adds # to # Chaos damage to Attacks
  5. Adds # to # Chaos damage to Attacks with Bows
  6. % increased Attack speed

If I understand your question correctly, you are wondering what class you should pick. Ranger is the right one, once the ranger ascends, it becomes Pathfinder. If you are new to the game feel free to ask anything, we are happy to help.

Fangs of the Viper no longer connects to that dexterity node beside it. Can you recommend an updated passive tree?

Hello Gethann, please check out the passive trees again.

After trying a Tornado Shot/Pathfinder build and it not working the best starting at Maps Tier 6, I was glad to find this and how well it works. Thanks!

First of all, love the build, having a great time with it. I’m having trouble building up poison stacks for Herald of Agony, is there something I missed?

    Cheers

Using Pathfinder’s Master Toxicist allows your Virulence stacks fall off 50% slower. High attack speed will also help out a great deal, you should easily keep up 30+ stacks most of the time, which should be enough.

i don’t get this build early in game using blue gems (NEEDS a lot of INT)
i butthurt a bit because this is not mentioned at all, you say you need to cap all elemental resists, how? no way to do this im already at 67 lvl with -60% each resist and shit I can do about it, not to mention I cannot equip any blue gems because there’s not enough INT

how can you explain this? followed this build from scratch and spent hours not having fun at all, one hit kill character

    Hey!

Basically what Vvckd said above, but to word it a bit differently.

Getting Intelligence to allow you to equip gems is “easy”, though I know it can certainly look frustrating. Go to poe.trade (here’s a guide to help figure it out if you need to https://www.poe-vault.com/guides/beginner-guide-to-poe-trade-blight-38) and find an amulet, ring, or helmet with a lot of Intelligence. You can easily get 50 or more Intelligence on even one such piece. Here is an example poe.trade search you can start from (items requiring level 67 or less, so you can equip right away): http://poe.trade/search/ayemkezawonama .

If by one hit character you mean that you die very easily, that is almost certainly due to the lack of resistances. By level 67, the game gets quite punishing, and if you have negative resists, you are indeed going to be like a sheet of paper. Capping the resists is very important, as the guide states, but at this stage I wouldn’t focus on that completely as a goal – getting them to 50%+ for each one (except Chaos, which you can basically ignore) should be the first order of business.

Another reason you might be dying is lack of Life. In addition to resists, you’ll want to look for items that have Maximum Life on them – the more the better. Typically, it won’t cost you much to find some with life and resists.

Let us know how you get along and if you have any more questions!

thanks for the reply, you mentioned few of the unique items above which are not viable for this kind of game, as you know its not possible to put resist cap on unique items, so what is the sense of following your equipement and uniques in this build? this completely ruined my game and ~300 chaos orbs getting the items you mentioned… for me as a newbie this is very disappointing, fact the ranger is high dps and can do damage but is a piece of pape, lots of stuff i still do not understand

I don’t really understand what you are talking about. The gearing section of the guide provides room for lots of Rare items where the top priority is resistances. The helmet, boots, amulet, rings, and belt are all listed as Rares (with a few unique suggestions for special cases) – those alone should be more than enough for you to cap your resists.

It seems like there’s a communication issue somewhere between you and the guide. I’d be happy to help you figure things out – just send me a PM if you want and we can chat.

The current skill trees linked in the build seem to still be for 3.6, they moved the mana node it’s now acuity and there is no longer a master fletcher next to avatar of the hunt. Loving the guide thanks :)

    Hey!

Thanks for the comment. The skill tree issue is because the guide hasn’t been technically updated to 3.7 – we’re working on that now.

Section 6.8 gives a few good bow options, some of which are available at lower levels. And not too expensive!

    @Vlad,

You think that build can be a good choice to start in 3.8?

    Best regards!

Hey, I’d like to answer, even though the question is not directed to me. The Toxic Rain Pathfinder is definitely a decent league-starter for the Blight league.
