Legion Jewels are a new addition to Path of Exile introduced in Content Update 3.7.0.
Once socketed into the Passive tree, Legion Jewels change the way keystones and notables work in lots of different ways, allowing players an even broader range of possibilities when it comes to builds.
Grinding Gear Games has released a small glimpse into the development of these jewels as seen through the eyes of Hrishi, a game designer at the Auckland-based studio. It’s interesting to note that the concept of these jewels was born about a year ago, during the development of Incursion.
Hrishi goes on to explain the journey on making these jewels a reality, and while “the act of corrupting small passive skills and notables into something else entirely” sounded straightforward at first, the question arose of how keystones would be affected.
It didn’t take long after a design meeting for us to realise that there was no way we were going to have the resources or time to develop 20+ compelling and balanced keystones while they were tied to the ones on the tree.
Check out Hrishi’s recollection of the Legion Jewels conundrum on Path of Exile’s forums. Spoiler: story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so we’re keeping our eyes peeled for Part 2 of the story.
