Last week we read the account of a Grinding Gear Games game designer, known as Hrishi, who was set with the task of creating what we now know as Legion Jewels – special jewels dropped by each of the five legions of the Timeless Conflict which affect surrounding notables and keystones on the Passive Skill tree in a number of fascinating ways.

The biggest question in the room was really, what makes a keystone? What qualities are desirable and undesirable for a good keystone? My first step was to establish a set of ground rules that keystones should follow.
