Grinding Gear Games shared a rather big preview about the upcoming patch with us players, and it seems that the endgame will get another much-needed boost!
A few hours ago, GGG gave us a full look at what is coming in Path of Exile 2 Patch 0.2.1, which should go live late next week (or soon after). The update is all about improving endgame rewards, adding exciting new socketables, and fixing some of the bigger complaint points around things like Rituals, Logbooks, and repetitive maps.
Here is an easy-to-view breakdown of what you need to know:
More Rewards and Chase Uniques
Right now, there are some great items in PoE2; you just rarely get to see them. Patch 0.2.1 will:
- Make existing chase uniques more common
- Add new rare uniques with big build potential
- Buff some older uniques that were underwhelming
GGG also says they will share a preview of some of the new Uniques before the patch rolls out.
Big Changes to Socketables
Endgame crafting should feel a little more exciting again. 0.2.1 adds:
- 22 Runes
- 14 Soul Cores
- 7 Talismans
These are rarer but much more impactful than the early-game ones, and some of them sound pretty wild.
Better Drops from Ritual, Essences, and Exiles
- Rare Omens are way more likely in Rituals
- Corrupted Essences from Vaal Orbs are ~6x more likely
- Rogue Exiles will drop more Uniques (about 3x more often)
Twisted Domain Gets a Reward Boost
This endgame zone was feeling a little empty, so GGG is:
- Adding lots more Rare monsters
- Improving drops before the boss
- Guaranteeing rare Breach Rings in the final loot pile
Logbooks Finally Worth Running
Logbooks now scale better for high-level characters:
- More monster density
- Bigger explosion radius = more loot revealed
- Minimap icons for all key features
Area-specific changes:
- Lush Isle: More XP remnants and totems, new Corruption monster spawns
- Frigid Bluffs: Adds frozen Vaal bosses and super-Remnants
- Barren Atoll: 10x more Strongboxes, better gold crates, and 2–4 extra Runes from Ezomyte runes
Mapping Variety and Atlas Fixes
Tired of Hidden Grotto over and over? Apparently, it’s the same for GGG. Patch 0.2.1 will:
- Normalize map frequency so you get more variety
- Adjust Citadel spawning so you are not locked out of the Arbiter fight
These changes apply only to unexplored parts of the Atlas going forward.
Making Dangerous Mods Less Annoying
GGG is also making a few ‘unpleasant’ mechanics more manageable:
- Rituals and Volatile Plants are less chaotic and more readable
- Map mods like Elemental Penetration are being toned down
- Omens, Clasped Hands, bats in Twisted Domain, and Curses are all getting some fixes or balance changes
Trial of the Sekhemas Updates
Running this trial is not very fun to begin with, I guess most of us can agree on that? So, any changes made to it are very much welcome at this point.
Patch 0.2.1 will bring the following updates to the Trial of the Sekhemas:
- “No Energy Shield” affliction now only halves it
- Boons and Afflictions are being reweighted so weaker ones show up less often
Smaller QoL Fixes and Performance Gains
- Passive Tree search now highlights and cycles nodes
- Tier X mod display shows highest tiers correctly (like PoE1)
- Atlas modifier UI is easier to read
- Better CPU performance in Act 1 and 2 zones
- New “Equip Now” button and upcoming character skin slot for MTX
When Is It Coming?
Patch 0.2.1 is expected late next week, but GGG says it could slide a little depending on final testing. We will also get a closer look at some of the new Uniques and socketables before release.
