New PoE2 Crafting Runes, Talismans & Soul Cores Revealed

PoE2 is getting a big crafting upgrade in Patch 0.2.1!

Grinding Gear Games has shared more info on what is coming in Patch 0.2.1 for Path of Exile 2, and it is all about crafting socketables. The next update will add 22 new runes, as well as powerful new Talismans and Soul Cores that are meant to feel like real upgrades when you hit the endgame.

The goal is to make socketables feel rewarding to find and upgrade, even later in the game.

What Is New in Patch 0.2.1?

Patch 0.2.1 will introduce:

• 22 New Runes, available only as world drops (not craftable from existing runes)
• 14 Soul Cores, found in Endgame Ultimatum (Trial of Chaos)
• 7 Talismans, dropped by Azmerian Spirit-possessed enemies

These upgrades are powerful, but also rare. Grinding Gear Games says they are meant to feel like long-term progression goals, not something you slot in after an hour of farming.

A Few Early Examples

• Tacati’s Soul Core of Affliction – For helmets. Enemies you curse have -8% to Chaos Resistance.
• Talisman of Thruldana – Martial weapon socketable. Reduces poison duration by 25%, but lets targets be affected by +1 of your poisons at once.
• Hedgewitch Assandra’s Rune of Wisdom – Socket this into a wand or staff to get +1 to level of all spell skills.
• Farrul’s Rune of the Chase – Add to boots for a flat 5% movement speed boost.
• The Greatwolf’s Rune of Willpower – Socket into body armour to take 10% of damage from Mana before Life.

These are only a preview – more will be revealed when the full patch notes land.

Socketables Worth Using in Endgame

In the current version of PoE2, most runes are used for basic stat coverage during the campaign. But in endgame, they mostly get ignored. Patch 0.2.1 is changing that by adding socketables that scale better and feel worth slotting into your gear again.

Just do not expect to farm them easily. These are chase items for a reason, as GGG stated.

Patch 0.2.1 Timing & More to Come

Originally planned for this week, Patch 0.2.1 has been delayed slightly and is now expected next week instead. GGG also mentioned that more new content is still on the way, including a look at the new Uniques coming in this same update.
