Chase Uniques Are Finally Worth Chasing in Path of Exile 2!

Grinding Gear Games just released an official post filled with details on one of the biggest loot changes in Path of Exile 2 so far. Patch 0.2.1 completely reworks how Mythic Uniques drop, making powerful items like Headhunter, Astramentis, and Mjolner finally feel like they are part of the game, not a myth.

Here is what is changing:

The Problem: Good Uniques Were Basically Fiction

Although PoE 2 improved the overall loot experience in recent patches, chase Uniques were still frustratingly rare. Mythics were being treated the same way they were in PoE 1, but the problem is, PoE 2 drops far fewer Uniques in general. Combine that with an old system that also gated items by Item Class (e.g., amulets and rings), and you had some Uniques that were literally tens of thousands of times rarer than a Divine Orb.

Apparently, Astramentis was ~47,000x rarer than a Divine Orb. No joke.

The Fix in Patch 0.2.1

GGG is addressing all of that with three major changes:

  • Removed Item Class weighting – A Mythic ring or amulet now has the same drop chance as a weapon or armor piece.
  • Map rarity scaling – The rarer your map, the better your chances of finding high-tier Uniques. Common Uniques start to drop less often, while Uncommon, Rare, and Mythic Uniques become more likely the harder your content gets.
  • Flat buff to Mythic drop rates – Across the board, Mythic Uniques will now drop more often. A lot more.

This should finally make it feel like a good Unique could be waiting around any corner, without needing 1000+ hours of luck.

Some Mythic Uniques Are Also Getting Buffed

GGG also confirmed that a few old Mythics were not living up to their rarity. These are being buffed in 0.2.1, although the details are being kept under wraps until the patch is released.

New Mythic Uniques Previewed

The patch also introduces completely new Mythic Uniques that combine lore, style, and raw power. Here is what was shown:

  • Lioneye’s Glare (Bow)
This Unique was presented with a super cool, narrated lore video and comic detailing Lioneye’s battle against Kaom and the Karui.

  • The Last Lament (Crossbow)
Tragic lore, heavy damage, and unique flavor. Introduced in a dev-narrated video by Game Director Mark. In combination with the Requiem skill, this unique is quite something.

  • The Whispering Ice (Staff)
Grants Heart of Ice aura and Icestorm spell. Classic item with a beautiful high-res render!

  • Cadiro’s Gambit (Quiver)
A new endgame quiver that adds a literal luck mechanic. The roll you get can change your build, or break it.

Patch 0.2.1 will launch tomorrow, and it looks like a big win for anyone hunting high-end loot. For players hoping to actually find the good stuff this time around, the update changes everything!
