Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths
  • Easy to play.
  • Scales well into late-game.
  • Automated damage allows you to stay safe.
Weaknesses
  • Requires a baseline of Spirit to get started.

Build Mechanics

This build utilizes powerful Rage generation and scaling mechanics from the Shaman Ascendancy to scale the damage of Spectre: Gargantuan Wasp alongside Infernal Legion III to rapidly clear maps, and Raise Zombie for massive single target damage.

Infernal Cry is used with the specific Support Gem setup of Enraged Warcry II, Raging Cry and Astral Projection. This allows you to safely and reliably generate Rage to share with your minions using the Commanding Rage passive node in the Druid area of the tree, and the Shaman Ascendancy.

Skill Rotation

Map Clearing

During map clearing, you will focus on keeping your Pain Offering active, using Infernal Cry to generate Rage to share with your minions, and using the Skeletal Brute Minions Command War Cry to intimidate tough enemies. In particularly difficult league mechanic encounters you could also use
Raise Zombie utilising the Power Charges generated through your Pain Offering to gain more single target damage.

Bossing

For bosses, the approach is very similar. If at all possible walk into the fight with 3 Power Charges from using your Pain Offering, and use Raise Zombie to summon multiple empowered Zombies on top of the boss. Then keep Pain Offering active, cast Despair under the boss and use Infernal Cry every ~4 seconds to keep generating rage to share with your Minions. Use the Skeletal Brute Minions War Cry to intimidate for even more damage.

Gameplay Tips

This build requires you to not equip any charms, as each empty charm slot grants you 40 additional Spirit due to the Sacred Flow Ascendancy passive. This is a massive boost to offensive strength, but does make you more susceptible to ailments. Be careful when interacting with Strongboxes or other mechanics that can apply powerful, long lasting freezes or damaging ailments.

To counteract this effect you can add Support Gems such as Warm Blooded and Strong Hearted to your Purity of Fire Aura.

Your Infernal Cry and its supports combine to create a ranged nova War Cry that can be targeted on top of enemy packs to generate instant Rage gain, which is needed alongside the Warlord Berserker passive assigned with your From Nothing(Bulwark) jewel to cause Minions in your Presence to generate their own Rage whenever you gain Rage. Technically this is only needed once every 8 seconds, but you should use it slightly more frequently than that to make sure your Minion’s Rage does not decay.

Gem Info

Below you will find a planner with a full breakdown of your skill setup. This build uses Spectre: Gargantuan Wasp in combination with Infernal Legion III as its primary clear tool.

Spectre: Gargantuan Wasp can be found in Ashen Forest in the Third Interlude. When binding them, they will have a base cost of 84 Spirit, and can be found all over the area as a random monster spawn.

There are many valuable Lineage supports that may be used for the build, but many of them come at a significant cost. In the planner below you will find 2 different support gem sets, one using no Lineage Support Gems, and another using a full suite of Lineage supports. They are listed in order of priority from top to bottom, left to right, so when pushing into the endgame stages of the build keep this in mind.

For your minion composition, you will want to summon:

  • 1x Skeletal Cleric
  • 1x Skeletal Storm Mage
  • 2x Skeletal Reavers
  • 1x Skeletal Brute
  • As many Spectre: Gargantuan Wasps as you can

Ascendancy

The Shaman Ascendancy is going to provide you with powerful Rage regeneration, more maximum Rage, elemental defenses and a massive boost to your Spirit allowing you to summon many more minions. Below is a breakdown of the nodes and why we take them.

  1. Sacred Flow: Grants you 120 Spirit at the cost of having to leave your charm slots empty. This node combined with a belt with at least two Charm slots as an implicit provides one of the strongest offensive bonuses for a minion build of any ascendancy
  2. Druidic Champion: This node provides essentially zero benefit to the build, but must be taken to gain access to the node behind it which is critical to the builds performance
  3. Furious Wellspring: Causes you to Regenerate Rage, and grants additional Maximum Rage as well as causing Rage to not decay. In combination with the Commanding Rage notable passive skill anointed on your Amulet, and Warlord Berserker allocated with the help of a From Nothing unique jewel, this allows you to both gain the benefits of powerful scaling rage effects on yourself, and to grant Rage to your minions for a massive boost in damage.
  4. Reactive Growth: Grants access to a new defensive tool, Adaptation, which increases your elemental damage reduction based on whatever damage you have been hit with most recently. This is particularly potent when fighting bosses who use a single elemental damage type, or when running maps with mods such as “Monsters gain % of damage as extra X Damage”

Skill Tree

This interactive skill tree will provide you with an overview of the final state of the build. When assigning your attributes, you will need to account for the necessary requirements of your character.

The passive node Heavy Buffer can ONLY be taken after you have assigned the Mind over Matter keystone. This combination of tools makes 5% of damage bypass your Energy Shield, which would normally kill you by hitting your 1 life from Chaos Inoculation, but will instead hit your Mana Pool instead. As long as you do not use all your mana, this results in a large boost in durability and will help you survive.

Note: You will be using a From Nothing (Bulwark) jewel that allows you to assign Warlord Berserker, Warlord leader and the Minion Damage small passive without pathing to them. While this is strictly not necessary, it is a huge power boost, particularly for your single target damage.

Gearing

Gear Affixes

In the table below, you will see a breakdown of the most important affixes for each gear slot, as well as what unique items the build uses. These are listed in order of priority, so consider your gearing options carefully.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This build requires the Instilled passive Commanding Rage on your amulet, and a From Nothing unique Jewel that allows you to allocate passives in radius of Bulwark to function at full efficiency. While the build can be played without the From Nothing jewel it does provide a significant amount of additional power.

Make sure that you are capped at 75% Elemental Resistances. As this build uses the Chaos Inoculation keystone passive you do not need any Chaos Resistance as you are completely immune to Chaos Damage.

Unique Items

Lavianga’s Spirits – This Unique Flask grants permanent, persistent mana regeneration, but cannot be used like a normal flask. Is used to help sustain high mana for use with Mind over Matter and Heavy Buffer.

From Nothing (Bulwark) – This unique jewel allows you to allocate the Warlord Leader and Warlord Berserker notable passives without having to path to them. This is an incredibly powerful and important boost to the damage of the build.

Bones of Ullr – These boots will dramatically increase your ability to summon additional minions, and while expensive, are best in slot and so should be pursued as soon as possible.

Ventor’s Gamble – This ring has a very wide range of rolls, and is used to help balance resistances, improve your maximum spirit, and maximum life. While not strictly necessary, if you find the right one, it can make fitting the rest of your attributes and resistances much easier. Alternatively use a Rare resistance ring.

Augments

This table will show you what Augments are used for each gear slot. While many slots will likely be used for resistance Runes, pay particular attention to the Helm, Belt, and Main Hand slot.

Jewels

There are many useful affixes on jewels, and this build has two sockets for them to be inserted in. Here are just a few of the highly desirable mods you may find on Sapphires:

  • % increased Maximum Energy Shield
  • % increased Energy Shield from Equipped Focus
  • Minions deal % increased Damage
  • Minions have % increased Attack and Cast Speed

In addition to regular Sapphire Jewels, you could also pursue Unique jewels such as a +3 Spectre Prism of Belief, a well-rolled Heart of the Well with useful abyssal modifiers, or a Megalomaniac with 2 useful Notable passives. These jewels are typically VERY expensive, and as such specific examples are not being provided.

Flasks and Charms

The recommended setup for your flasks and charms is:

  • Life Flask – As the build is using Chaos Innoculation this slot is essentially disabled
  • Mana Flask – Gains X charges per second | % of recovery applied instantly
  • Charms – MUST LEAVE CHARM SLOTS EMPTY
