Good news for PoE 2 players, the Abyss league is not completely going away! With Patch 0.4.0, the Rise of the Abyssal mechanics are now part of the base game, meaning you can continue running Abysses even after the league ends.
Abysses in the Endgame
Abyss encounters now appear randomly in the endgame rather than in every campaign area, giving you a new challenge without overwhelming the map system.

Customize Your Abyss Experience With Tablets
If you want to run Abysses, you can now use Abyss Tablets to add them to any map. You can also craft tablets to apply Abyss-specific modifiers, enhancing both the difficulty and the rewards you will get from them.

New Atlas Passive Tree for Abyss
Abyss now also has its own dedicated Atlas tree. You can gain points by completing Abysses, exploring depths, or defeating specific bosses. Once the tree is unlocked, you can specialize in:
- Adding more monsters and bosses
- Overrunning nearby maps with Abyssal content
- Applying Abyss-specific modifiers to maps
- Interacting with other league mechanics or focusing on a specific Abyssal faction

On top of that, a few other small changes have been made in order to make the Abyssal mechanics fit into the base game:
- Preserved Vertebrae no longer drop.
- The Well of Souls quest has been updated to reflect Abysses’ new placement in the campaign.
Even after the Fate of the Vaal League starts, Abyss mechanics remain accessible this way. The new league will launch with The Last of the Druids on December 12th at 19:00 CET, bringing a new class, new mechanics to explore, and a ton of other content!
