Introduction

Here we have a bow build that specializes in staying as far as possible while shattering enemies with freezing arrows falling from the sky. If you like the archer type of play style this build will satisfy your needs for sure. Two main items the build is based around are Shaper based bow that gives additional flat cold damage per 10 dexterity and the unique quiver Hyrri's Demise Hyrri’s Demise. Combining these two items and reaching at least 450 dexterity is enough to crush endgame content. Considering how Rain of Arrows Rain of Arrows’ projectiles fall closer and farther from you in a single attack makes relying on Point Black not a good choice. This is why we choose to play around the Deadeye’s Far Shot. Shooting from a distance and critically striking enemies with bows has great synergy with Far Shot because you also knock foes even further away via King of the Hill.

Build Summary

Before acquiring the shaper bow you can play with one of the most solid unique bows Lioneye's Glare Lioneye’s Glare Although it is a bit out of the cold theme and dexterity stacking we are going for, it will carry you until you get the bow you are looking for. Vaal Rain of Arrows Vaal Rain of Arrows is insanely strong when it comes to single target not only with its damage potential but the 150% Maim barely lets them move. At the beginning of a league you can buy a Shaper based bow off the market for couple of Chaos Orb Chaos Orb and start rolling it. Look for attack speed, critical strike chance, 3-5 cold damage per 10 dexterity and 20% Chance to deal double damage. It is recommended rolling a Spine Bow since it has the best balance between attack speed and critical chance. A starting bow of this kind should cost around 50Chaos Orb Chaos Orb or less to be crafted, after that buy Hyrri's Demise Hyrri’s Demise and you have the foundation.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Hardcore viable
+ Great clear speed
+ Strong single target
+ Safe to play due to the great distance you can attack from

Cons

- Endgame gear can get expensive

Playstyle

Offensively, shoot from as far as possible to make sure you get the maximum bonus from Far Shot. A combination of your huge area of effect and Herald of Ice Herald of Ice will clear monster packs easily. Save Vaal Rain of Arrows Vaal Rain of Arrows charges for tougher enemies. A Frost Bomb Frost Bomb with Curse On Hit Support Curse On Hit Support setup can be utilized to further improve your single target damage. Blood Rage Blood Rage is a good addition to the build.

Defensively, your big life pool, evasion rating and a combination of Acrobatics and Phase Acrobatics make you very hard to kill. The build’s play style do not even give the enemies a chance to strike you. You also have a reliable life and mana leech which keeps you safe.

For Playstyle, keep your distance and utilize Far Shot as much as possible. You will have extreme burst potential when you combine Vaal Rain of Arrows, the helm enchant of the skill, the chance to deal Double Damage along with the huge critical strike chance and critical multiplier. If you get lucky enough and all of these things proc at the same time, you can melt bosses in a second. Good uptime on your Diamond Flask is essential when you try to maximize your damage output. When you get hit, your life leech should be enough to recover your life pool. Use Blink Arrow for mobility and to dodge lethal game mechanics. Keep in mind it has a cooldown and should be used wisely.

Ascendancy, Passive tree, Bandits and Pantheons

Ascendancy (Ranger – Deadeye)

  1. Far Shot
  2. Endless Munitions
  3. Gathering Winds
  4. Fast and Deadly

Far Shot is our first choice. Essentially it is an additional more multiplier to your damage when you attack from a distance. Endless Munitions provides great clear speed increase. Gathering Winds basically gives you a lot of flat evasion rating and multiplies all your speed by 10-20%. Fast and Deadly doubles your accuracy rating which is very important when playing a critical strike based build. Also gives a very handy 10% attack speed and 30% projectile damage. Blink Arrow Blink Arrow recovery speed makes the skill very reliable when it comes to mobility.

Note: Keep in mind that if you go for endgame boss killing you can swap Endless Munitions with Rupture for additional single target damage.

Passive tree

Here is an endgame version of the passive tree.

Note: If you do not have Lioneye's Fall Lioneye’s Fall socketed near the claw nodes just put points into the leech near Duelist.

Bandits

In Act II you have to do the quest “Deal with the Bandits”. This is a decision that you have to make for your character, which will stay with it for the rest of the game. You can either kill all bandits (Alira, Oak and Kraityn) for 2 additional passive skill tree points. The other choice is to help one of them for a specific reward. For this specific build we should help Alira. The critical multiplier and 15% all elemental resistances are stronger than the 2 passive skill points.

Pantheons

Major: Soul of Solaris – The additional chance to take less damage just adds another layer of defence on top of the build. Other major pantheons are also valuable choices in certain situations.
Minor: Here we have many options to choose between. Ralakesh gives you blind and maim immunity, Garukhan provides additional evade chance, Shakari gives poison immunity. Ralakesh should be the most useful one in most cases.

Gems

Rain of Arrows Rain of Arrows is the build’s main skill, which should ideally be used in a 6-Link. Frost Bomb Frost Bomb is used in a combination with a curse on hit setup in order to improve single target damage output. For mobility, use Blink Arrow Blink Arrow. Herald of Ice Herald of Ice is used for the additional cold damage it provides. A standard Immortal Call Immortal Call setup is used to prevent deaths from consecutive physical hits.

Rain of Arrows (6-link)

Rain of Arrows Rain of Arrows has a great clear speed potential. In order to improve your single target damage use Vaal Rain of Arrows Vaal Rain of Arrows, the 150% Maim effect will keep most targets in place. Depending on the type of content you are running we recommend two 6-Links.

For clearing, use the following gem setup.

Vaal Rain of Arrows Vaal Rain of Arrows Elemental Damage with Attacks Support Elemental Damage with Attacks Support Elemental Focus Support Elemental Focus Support Increased Critical Strikes Support Increased Critical Strikes Support Cold Penetration Support Cold Penetration Support Added Cold Damage Support Added Cold Damage Support

For single target, we recommend the following link.

Other Gems

If you have a Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with additional Critical Chance while Hatred is active, you can choose to run Hatred Hatred in combination with Herald of Ice Herald of Ice without its utility links. For additional defence you can also drop the herald’s support gems in order to lower its mana reservation, this will allow you to also active defensive buff like Grace Grace or Arctic Armour Arctic Armour. Decoy Totem Decoy Totem can be used to distract enemies from you, allowing you to stay safe and focus on dealing damage.

Gearing

Capping your elemental resistances is essential and it should always be your top priority in any build; it should be the first thing you do when gearing up a character. Obtaining a 6-link, while very powerful and certainly recommended, can potentially be very expensive (requiring an average of 1500 Orbs of Fusing, obviously depending on your luck); as such, this should not really be a goal for you while gearing up, and you should instead settle for a 5-link until you have enough resources. Lioneye's Glare Lioneye's Glare will carry you through early mapping. Try to get Hyrri's Demise Hyrri's Demise as early as possible. Both Wildwrap Wildwrap and Hyrri's Ire Hyrri's Ire will both improve the damage. For additional survivability stack life on jewelry and use Starkonja's Head Starkonja's Head.

Helmet

Best in slot unique helmet is Starkonja's Head Starkonja’s Head. Devoto's Devotion Devoto’s Devotion can also replace it if you are going for more clear speed. When it comes to enchantments Rain of Arrows Rain of Arrows has one of the best helm enchants in the game. 15% chance to fire an additional sequence of arrows is a big boost to single target damage. If you just want to clear maps with the build you can go for Rain of Arrows attack speed. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. Elemental resistances (until capped)
  2. Maximum Life (at least 80)
  3. Increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil)
  4. Chaos resistance
  5. Dexterity (at least 40)
  6. Other Attributes if needed for stat requirements(Intelligence; Strength)
  7. Accuracy Rating (at least 200)

Body Armour

Playing a bow build allows us to run our main 6-Link in the weapon. This means we can choose to go very tanky with Kaom's Heart Kaom’s Heart. If you just want more damage you can go with Loreweave Loreweave or elder body armor with additional attack critical chance. Other unique choices are Wildwrap Wildwrap, Queen of the Forest Queen of the Forest, Kintsugi Kintsugi and Hyrri's Ire Hyrri’s Ire. The Rare Affix Priority is:

  1. Elemental resistances (until capped)
  2. Maximum Life (at least 100)
  3. % Increased Maximum Life (Elder mod; Pristine Fossil)
  4. Attacks have +#% to Critical Strike Chance (Suffix, Elder mod)

Gloves

Tombfist Tombfist gloves are the best in slot for this build. Preferably going for two abyssal sockets and even corrupted with additional attack critical chance. This can be very expensive. You can start with cheap Tombfists with single socket and work your way up. Oskarm Oskarm is also a great choice. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. Elemental resistances (until capped)
  2. Maximum Life (at least 60)
  3. Attack speed
  4. Dexterity (at least 30)
  5. Increased Damage During any Flask Effect
  6. Accuracy Rating (at least 200)

Boots

  1. Elemental resistances (until capped)
  2. Maximum Life (at least 80)
  3. Movement speed (at least 20-25%)
  4. Dexterity (at least 40)

  6. Critical strike multiplier (at least 20%)
  7. Added cold damage to attacks

  1. Elemental resistances (until capped)
  2. Maximum Life (at least 50)
  3. Dexterity (at least 30)
  4. Elemental damage with attacks (at least 25%)
  5. Added cold damage to attacks

Bow

As mentioned before, we are looking for a rare shaper based bow. Lioneye's Glare Lioneye’s Glare and other unique bows can carry you until you obtain your shaper based bow. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. Adds # to # cold damage to attacks with this weapon per 10 dexterity
  2. Attack speed (at least 1,5APS)
  3. Critical strike chance (at least 6,5%)
  4. 20% chance to deal double damage
  5. Critical multiplier

Quiver

Hyrri's Demise Hyrri’s Demise is the best in slot quiver and should not be changed. Before that use a rare one. The Rare Affix priority is:

  1. Elemental resistances (until capped)
  2. Maximum life (at least 60)
  3. Elemental damage with attacks (at least 30%)

Flasks

Quicksilver flask of Adrenaline will improve mobility. Atziri's Promise Atziri’s Promise provides additional life leech along with more damage. Diamond flask is mandatory in every critical based build. Divine life flask should be instant or roll 50% of life recovery is instant, also this is the best flask to have bleed removal on. For the last flask you can go for more damage with The Wise Oak The Wise Oak or more defense with flasks like Taste of Hate Taste of Hate, Basalt Flask, Stibnite Flask or a Jade flask.

Note: It is recommended to have curse immunity on your Diamond flask or one of the defensive flasks you choose.

Jewels

When it comes to unique jewels, a recommended one is Lioneye's Fall Lioneye’s Fall. It turns all the allocated melee weapon nodes to apply to bows instead. The critical chance, multiplier and leech we get from the claw nodes are very point-efficient and this is why we choose to put Lioneye's Fall Lioneye’s Fall there. Watcher's Eye Watcher’s Eye with additional critical chance while using Hatred Hatred is the best jewel to look for, but it will be very expensive.

Note: Abyssal jewels are way more beneficial than regular ones.

Abyssal Jewels Affix Priority

  1. Maximum life (at least 35)
  2. Chance to gain Onslaught on kill (at least 5%)
  3. Chance to gain Phasing on kill

Rain of Arrows Rain of Arrows is not only a viable endgame choice, it is also one of the best leveling bow skills. It has great clear since the beginning and its vaal version will take care of bosses. Added Lightning Damage Support Added Lightning Damage Support and Added Cold Damage Support Added Cold Damage Support combined with a fast attacking bow will carry you through levels. Use Silver flask and Quicksilver flask to move and attack quickly while leveling.

Leveling Trees

32 points

69 points

Pick all the life and elemental damage nodes early on, this will be enough to carry you through the whole leveling content. Spec into Acrobatics and Phase Acrobatics as early as you want, it will improve your survivability by a great deal

Useful Leveling Uniques

As you begin a new character there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters. Storm Cloud Storm Cloud and Ondar's Clasp Ondar's Clasp will carry you damage wise.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.

FAQ

Is there any particular content the build is bad at?

The Rain of Arrows Rain of Arrows Deadeye has great clear speed and single target damage for maps, does well in Delve and is both great in Incursion and slaying Einhar’s beasts.

How mandatory is the shaper-based bow?

You can play without one up until higher red-tier maps, then your damage might start lacking and you will need one.

Conclusion

You will be surprised how good it feels to play the build. Being decent in every type of content is not a quality that every build can have, this build’s versatility is on the high end. If you prefer the archer type of character this is a great build to look at.

For level 18 under the leveling section it lists elemental focus twice. Maybe a Ele Dmg w/ Attacks was meant for one of these spots?
