Grinding Gear Games just shared a fun new Path of Exile 2 video with Zaccie, one of the main devs responsible for monster and boss balance. His job is to make sure every enemy feels dangerous, memorable, and sometimes a little unfair in the best way.
The interview covers how Zaccie uses in-house spreadsheet tools to change monster abilities, damage values, and animations. A lot of it comes down to gut feeling rather than endless adjusting. For example, the infamous Chaos Volatiles, which ended up overtuned because of wrong assumptions about chaos resistance.
How Bosses Come to Life
In the video, Zaccie explained that bosses are built with input from animators, VFX artists, and designers. Everyone throws in ideas, which leads to unique attack patterns and cinematic fights. If a boss turns out too brutal, they adjust it later on.
Community Feedback, PoE 1 Balance… and K-Pop?
He reads plenty of player feedback but does not let negativity get to him. Interestingly, Zaccie plans to bring Path of Exile 1 balance up to PoE 2 standards by using consistent damage templates across both games. On a lighter note, he revealed that his work sessions sometimes involve K-pop playlists from artists like Twice and IU, which the community found hilarious!
