Patch 0.3.1 has landed in Path of Exile 2, and it is a beast of an update. The focus is on making the endgame feel better, with Tablets now tied directly to the Map Device, map bosses made more important, and plenty of quality-of-life improvements across the board. Grinding Gear had already teased this overhaul earlier – you can read our coverage of that here.
If you want the full raw details, the official patch notes are up on the PoE forums.
Tablets Go Into the Map Device
Precursor Tablets no longer need Towers. You can slot them right into the Map Device, each with a set number of uses. Depending on map modifiers, you can run up to three Tablets at once. Once a Tablet’s charges run out, it is destroyed.
- Standard non-unique Tablets now always come with 10 uses.
- Overseer’s Tablet is set to 10 uses as well (up from 2–4).
- Towers are still worth building since they reveal more of the Atlas and give an extra Tablet.

This lowers the ceiling for stacking content on a single map, but to make up for it, almost every Tablet modifier has been buffed. Seven completely new mods are now in the pool, including Azmeri’s, Crystallised, Exiled, Summoner’s, of the Antiquarian, of the Devoted, and of the Summoning.
Maps Always Push You to a Boss
Every map now comes with a boss, and finishing the map only requires taking it down. Some bosses are now tagged as Powerful Map Bosses, which unlock certain Atlas passives (like Beyond Reality and Old Pirate’s Trick) and also mean tougher fights with better rewards.
Maps also come loaded with extra random content:
- Each map now adds 1–3 events like Breach, Delirium, or Expedition.
- Icons for those mechanics have been removed from the Atlas itself.
- Several layouts have been trimmed down for faster clears.
- Early-tier maps spawn fewer packs overall, but density ramps back up by Tier 15.
- Monster pack composition was adjusted: more groups, fewer monsters per group, keeping overall density about the same.
- Ground effects from “of Ice, Lightning, or Flames” cover much less area (75% less at Waystone Tiers 1–5, scaling to 62% less at higher tiers).

Abyss, Atlas, and Progression Updates
Abyss got some cleanup with clearer passives, cracks spawning more logically, and the Eruption of Souls rare modifier added. The Well of Souls now applies resistance penalties based on your highest Act cleared.
Other changes include:
- Citadel spawn chance up by 66%.
- Sealed Vault-linked maps can now spawn a Vaal Beacon with an Idol of Estazunti drop.
- Atlas visuals, quests, and dialogue updated for the new Tablet system.
Player Updates and Combat Changes
Evasion has been rebalanced, with a lower base value and monster accuracy adjusted around it. Totems are now capped at 10 Ancestral Warrior Totems. Remnants are easier to pick up thanks to a bigger radius. Parry behavior has been improved, heavy stuns are less punishing at low levels, and several combat interactions were adjusted.
There are also a bunch of small but welcome upgrades:
- Orbs of Alchemy now work on magic items.
- Crafting benches added to Khari Bazaar.
- Character panel calcs now cap at monster Level 82 (down from 84).
- Stash and vendor UIs remember your last search.
- New sprint and reload animations added.
A Mountain of Bug Fixes
The patch also clears out a ton of bugs across skills, bosses, maps, and UI. Highlights include fixes for strongbox spawns, boss phase transitions, controller crashes, and cosmetic display issues, next to dozens of smaller quest and skill fixes.
