Path of Exile 2 Player Accidentally Sells Headhunter for 28 Exalts

A rare drop, a mispriced listing, and a vanished Headhunter. PoE2's trade system drama is back in the spotlight.

Mistakes were made in Path of Exile 2 this week, and they were costly.

On the PoE2 Reddit, a player shared how they had saved up for a Headhunter, one of the game’s most famous chase items, only for another copy to drop just a few maps later. Instead of pocketing the jackpot, it automatically listed on trade for 28 Exalted Orbs.

Their hideout was instantly swarmed, and the item was gone in seconds. “Congrats to whomever got a HH for 28ex,” they wrote. “I laughed it off and kept playing.”

How Bots Snag Items Instantly

The speed of the sale was suspiciously fast, and most players assume a bot grabbed it. The way it usually works is simple:

  • Bots connect directly to the trade API or use browser extensions to detect listings instantly.
  • They run across multiple accounts in parallel, often on servers closer to trade exchanges.
  • Humans have to load the trade invite, click, and accept – by then, the item is already gone.

That is why regular players often feel like they never stand a chance, especially on consoles where interfaces are slower.

Trade Frustrations Resurface

The story caused another wave of complaints about Path of Exile 2’s trade system. Players argue that bots have a massive advantage, and GGG still has not implemented countermeasures. Boss farming, currency trading, and big-ticket items all feel skewed toward automation.

Sure, it is a funny story, but also another reminder of how frustrating trade can be in PoE2 right now. For one lucky (or automated) buyer, however, it was the deal of the season.
