Divine Ire Totems Hierophant Build Guide (PoE Delirium 3.10)

This build is not updated for the current patch, but we have evaluated it and we consider it to still work as intended. You can try it out, but you may find slight differences between this guide and the current game state. Although viable, this build is not considered strong enough to be an optimal play choice during this league.

Guide Format

This build guide is split over multiple pages, both to prevent it from getting too long, as well as to help you better find the information you are looking for. In addition to the current page, which presents general information about the build and also contains a Leveling and FAQ section, we have the following pages:

Introduction

The Divine Ire Totem Hierophant is one of the strongest Spell Totem builds available for both clearing and single target. The character can be very budget-friendly and allow you to most of the content at little to no investment, it also gives you the option to heavily invest into gear in order to deal great amounts of damage.

The build is able to reach a maximum of 6 Totems placed at a time, along with more than 200% maximum Life and Mind over Matter (you can also choose to run Eldrich Battery and not heavily invest into Mana).

Build Summary

Ideally, we want to wear The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud in combination with full Shaper-based gear. Prior to it we are simply looking for items with Spell damage, Spell Critical Modifiers and Life/Mana. An important thing that increases the build’s potential is a Shaper-based Shield that provides 1 additional Maximum Totem placed at a time.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Hardcore viable
+ Cheap to start
+ Great endgame potential

Cons

- Totem builds might not suit everyone’s playstyle

Playstyle

Offensively, place down two totems per screen of monsters and move on, Totems will do the work. You would want to drop down an Orb of Storms Orb of Storms in order to trigger Power Charge On Critical Support Power Charge On Critical Support setup to generate power charges. Four link Flame Dash Flame Dash allows you to have Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support at all times.

Defensively, keeping your distance is very important. A great Life pool in combination with Mind over Matter will allow you to take a lot of damage. Steelskin Steelskin will allow you to mitigate unavoidable incoming damage.

For playstyle, your job is to make sure your Totems are always up. Stay behind them and let them do the work. In the free time you have while fighting tougher foes use your utility Orb of Storms Orb of Storms setup to generate Power Charges. Utilizing Shield Charge and Flame Dash will prove to be more efficient for movement than just running around.

Passive Tree

Here is the endgame passive skill tree for the build. We mainly focus on picking up all the efficient Life and Mana along with all the nearby Totem and Spell Crit nodes.

For more information, be sure to check out the passive skill tree page.

Passive Tree Page

Ascendancy, Bandits, and Pantheons

Our Ascendancy, Bandit, and Pantheon Power page goes into detail about all the choices you need to make in these regards.

Gems

We go over all of the gem links this build uses in the end-game on our Gem Link page.

Gem Link Page

Gear Summary / TL;DR

These items provide a good balance between offense and defense and are enough to deal with the endgame, although there is definitely a room for improvement. Please ensure you read the Gear, Jewels and Flasks page in its entirety.

Gear Page

Our recommendation:

Item Slot Item Name
Head Rare Shaper-based Helmet
Amulet Rare Shaper-based Amulet
Chest The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud
Gloves Rare Shaper-based Gloves
Boots Rare Shaper-based Boots
Belt Rare Shaper-based Belt
Rings Rare Shaper-based Rings
Weapon Rare Shaper-based One-hand
Shield Rare Shaper-based Shield

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

You can start leveling as a Totem build as soon as you have Ancestral Bond and proper gem links (preferably 4-link). Even without leveling unique items, the build is pretty easy and straightforward to level and you should not have any issues.

Leveling Tree

This is what your passive skill tree should look like around level 60.

Useful Leveling Uniques

As you begin a new character there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters. Lifesprig Lifesprig will help early on if you socket your spell into it.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.

In order to acquire gems that are not available to your class as a quest reward, simply ask a friend to buy them off vendors for you, or buy them yourself from Sioasa in The Library in Act III Library.

From level 1, you should use the following link.

  1. Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse
  2. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support
  3. Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support

At level 10, you are able to add Flame Dash Flame Dash, which will help with your mobility.

By level 18 your Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse link should look like this:

  1. Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse
  2. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support
  3. Controlled Destruction Support Controlled Destruction Support
  4. Added Cold Damage Support Added Cold Damage Support
  5. Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support
  6. Faster Casting Support Faster Casting Support

At level 28, you can finally start using Divine Ire Divine Ire Totems.

  1. Divine Ire Divine Ire
  2. Spell Totem Support Spell Totem Support
  3. Controlled Destruction Support Controlled Destruction Support
  4. Faster Casting Support Faster Casting Support

At level 38, your Totem gem setup should look like this.

  1. Divine Ire Divine Ire
  2. Spell Totem Support Spell Totem Support
  3. Multiple Totems Support Multiple Totems Support
  4. Controlled Destruction Support Controlled Destruction Support
  5. Faster Casting Support Faster Casting Support

FAQ

Why would I choose to play a Totem build instead of self-cast?

The Totem builds have few perks that make them very useful. First, you are less likely to run into Mana problems. Second, reflect is not an issue. Last but not least, is it way easier to stay away and place Totems to do the work for you instead of staying close to targets, in that sense it is safer than a self-caster.

Conclusion

If you like Totems in general this guide provides majority of what you need to know about Spell-based Totem builds. It also explains a cheap and easy way to start a Totem build along with a more expensive version of it, which allows you to tackle the hardest content in the game.

Hey, if you want to fully convert you can easily do it with Physical to Lightning Support Physical to Lightning Support.

With shaper getting a lot rarer this patch, do we still look for shaped rares everywhere?
Also what shaper stats am I looking for on helmet and gloves?

Hey, I expect the items to have higher cost but after all playing around The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud is not mandatory and the build works perfectly without it. When it comes to Mods for Gloves and Helmet, there are no particularly good ones for the Gloves but you can get additional Cold and Lightning damage added to spells on your Helmet.

Giving this a try in 3.9. Should I expect any deep changes to this build as it is now in terms of gear, gems and passive skills?

Hey, the build has not been directly changed in any way. Playing around The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud and Shaper-based items will be harder so I would recommend staying away from that in the begining, it will be expensive. The build is just as solid as before and plays out the same, good luck in the new league and thanks for choosing our guides!

i’m quite suspicious about this build.
    no conductivity mentioned?
is multiple totems support any dmg boost actually?
controlled destruction , crit on tree and increased critical strikes?
is ethenity shroud strictly better than traditional soul mantle | 2x kikazaru | sel-flagellation approach to totem build?

Hey, Multiple Totems Support Multiple Totems Support works great with any Hierophant build, it gives you more mobility and utility. Controlled Destruction Support Controlled Destruction Support is a way too high of a damage multiplier to not be used even in Critical-based builds. The Eternity Shroud The Eternity Shroud provides significantly more damage than the budget-friendly Soul Mantle Soul Mantle + Kikazaru Kikazarux2 setup.

Should both rings have Assassin’s Mark on hit or only one of them? Might be a dumb question but had to ask

How do you achieve 6 totems with this build ?

    From my understanding you have:
    +1 base totem
    +1 Hierophant ascendency
    +1 Ancestral Bond Node
    +2 Multiple totem support

Which would account to 5 totems. You could add a 6th one with soul mantle but the build doesn’t recommend it.
Is it with the +1 to totem on shield (syndicate craft) however, the build doen’t specify it.

I might have missed something in the guide.

Hey, you can get +1 to max Totems from a Shaper-based Shield.

    Hi,

First I would to thank you for this great build setup.
I know this is still early, but what about the passive skill with the new delirium skill jewel?
What changes would you make, and what skill jewel should we look for?

    Thanks a lot
