Introduction
Welcome to the statstacking life! This build takes advantage of unique interactions using
Pillar of the Caged God and
Hand of Wisdom and Action. Coupling these two items together gives us a very potent way to scale damage without the use of skill levels. Intelligence will also provides a pretty girthy amount of mana, which we can use to scale our hit pool.
This guide will focus on Heralds as the primary mapping tool, with some insane Herald-chain tech that will bring back memories of 0.1 heralds. The skill we use to proc everything will be
Fragments of the Past, but any skill that can be used with a quarterstaff will work, so you can pick your poison!
Lastly for the introduction – Why Acolyte? The tech needs a large source of Damage as Extra Chaos to get the Herald chain bomb going, and Acolyte provides the most straight forward way to do this with the ascendancy. We will leverage
Tul’s Stillness and
Esh’s Radiance to get the Herald propagation rolling.
Strengths and Weaknesses
- Multi-screen clear with Herald chaining
- Easy passive tree
- One-button build
- Would like a bit more defense
- Jewels are difficult to come by (not required to get started)
Build Mechanics
This build wants to use attributes to scale defense, damage, and aoe. The primary attribute we will focus on is Intelligence as it provides the following bonuses:
- Flat Damage: With a proper pair of
Hand of Wisdom and Action, we will get a total of 488 flat lightning damage at 1500 Intelligence. The amount of Intelligence easy to get without a crazy amount of jewels). - Area of Effect: With
Pillar of the Caged God, we will get a total of 150% increased area of effect at 1500 intelligence. - Mana: Since we will be using the Mind Over Matter Passive Keystone, the 1500 intelligence provides a minimum of 3,000 additional Mana. This directly scales our hit pool, which is then overflowed using the spirit gem
Mana Remnants.
The remaining vectors that get scaled through attributes are:
- ~600% increased damage through the Strength we have with the benefit of
Pillar of the Caged God. You will have around 600 Strength if you follow the suggested gear. - ~75% increased attack speed through the Dexterity we have with the benefit of
Pillar of the Caged God and
Hand of Wisdom and Action. You will have around 500 Dexterity if you follow the suggested gear.
That leaves the final vector to scale being critical damage bonus and chance, which is where the jewels come in. The jewels will have the following stats in a perfect world:
- Critical Hit Chance
- Critical Damage Bonus
- Increased Effect of Suffixes
- Increased % Intelligence
Skill Rotation
- In maps, just press
Fragments of the Past. - On Bosses, place down two
Fragments of the Past, press
Rain of Blades, then press
Archon of Chayula. - If the boss is not dead, use
Animus Exchange to top up your Ward and continue pressing
Fragments of the Past and maintain the
Rain of Blades buff.
Herald Chain Explanation
A new support gem was introduced this league called
Concussive Runes. What Concussive Runes does is when you Heavy Stun an enemy, it will proc Concussive Runes and it has an effective damage modifier of 500% in a 2 meter radius. This effective damage modifier is incredibly high for a support gem.
Some background on Herald Chaining. In the first version of the game (Patch 0.1) you used to be able to proc Herald of Ice with Herald of Thunder by making Herald of Thunder freeze, and vice versa (make Herald of Ice shock).
To fix this, GGG implemented that a Herald can only be proc’d by a “Non-Herald Attack Hit.” Since Concussive Runes is an attack hit, it will be able to proc Heralds.
The solution to get chaining back on the menu is as follows:
Herald of Ice needs to be able to stun, but cold damage CANNOT inherently stun. This is where the Damage as Extra Chaos comes in, as well as the supports
Stun III and Tul’s Stillness. We make the Herald stun using the Damage as Extra Chaos, and that chaos will be able to freeze because of Tul’s Stillness. When Herald of Ice stuns, it will proc
Concussive Runes, which will be able to freeze because it is also supported by Tul’s Stillness. This will create a loop of stun/freeze procs that will chain as long as there are monsters available to be hit.- The primary problem of Herald of Ice is that it is non-functional in Delirious Maps because Delirious monsters do not have corpses to be shattered. This is where we apply the same tech to
Herald of Thunder, supporting it with
Stun III,
Concussive Runes and Esh’s Radiance to get the same propagation loop going. - The final piece to this puzzle is that
Concussive Runes requires a good bit of Ward to make sure it’s always available. This is where we get a good baseline of Ward on gear, around 500, and use
Remnants of Kalguur to keep us topped up on Ward at all times. When you don’t have Remnants to pick up, use
Animus Exchange to get Ward.
This build will lean into low-life tech using
Atziri’s Communion (it is optional) but helps a lot with supports and critical damage bonus. We use
Blink and
Direstrike II as supports to get to the 100 Spirit Reservation needed to get us to be “low-life”.
We choose Thaumaturgical Dynamism as our Anoint of choice, which enables us to run Charge Regulation to get us to critical hit chance cap.
To maximize passive points, we put collection range of Remnants on second weapon set. The collection range will snapshot when you enter an instance. If you use this tech, make sure you enter your maps in second weapon set so you are consistently picking up your Purple Flames.
Ascendancy
Into the Breach: This ascendancy skill gives you an innate ability that spawns Flames of Chayula, These flames can be collected very easily using the tech above.- Lucid Dreaming – Choice of Power: This forces all flames spawned to be Purple Flames of Chayula. Each Flame collected lasts for 8 seconds and provides 7% damage as extra chaos. The ascendancy itself and the support gem we use boosts the 7% damage as extra chaos per flame to 16% damage as extra chaos per flame – and we always have a minimum of 7 flames – most often at 10 flames – offering a baseline of 112% damage as extra chaos, up to 160% damage as extra chaos.
- Chayula’s Gift: This is a travel node that provides some Chaos Resistance.
- Archon of Chayula: Helps a lot as an emergency button, as well as during bossing.
Passive Tree
The tree provided is an endgame, min-maxed version of the tree. The primary goal is to get as much Stats and Jewel Sockets from the tree as possible, while also leaning into a bit of crit. The Jewels you will run will be as follows:
- Sapphire Jewels with Critical Hit Chance/Critical Damage Bonus/3% Intelligence/Increased effect of Suffixes. This is expensive; if you can’t find just run Crit and Crit Bonus.
Heart of the Well: Extra Cold/Extra Lightning/Crit Bonus/Crit
From Nothing: Resonance to enable a very strong Against the Darkness Placement.
Against the Darkness: 4% Increased Intelligence per Notable. The second mod will be Increased Strength or Damage as Extra, but Damage as Extra versions are expensive.
Megalomaniac: Insightfulness alongside any other relevant beneficial modifier, or just replace with another blue jewel.
Voices: If you can afford it! Two socket is still good.
Once you have the From Nothing and a Time-Lost Jewel, fill in the tree nodes For the Jugular, True Strike, Spaghettification, Seeing Stars, Stylebender, Spell Blade, and Spell Haste.
