Follow your swarm of gigantic Skeletal Reaver Minions into battle and watch as they hack and slash their way through your foes! This build for the Acolyte of Chayula will see you walking through maps, using new tools such as Minion Splash II and Rage III to let your melee minions destroy packs of enemies in a completely new way!

A collaborative work by GhazzyTV and Lollash. If you have any questions or feedback to provide, please feel free to drop by our streams!

If you are looking for a guide to play through the campaign with, check out our Acolyte of Chayula Minion Leveling build, linked below!

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths
  • Your melee minion swarm will keep enemies busy and you safe
  • High Presence Area and Melee Minions make it easy to sustain Flames of Chayula
  • Very satisfying when your Reavers have ramped up
Weaknesses
  • Reavers have a ramp up time before they reach full power
  • Defensively slightly on the squishy side, so requires dodging large slam abilities

Build Mechanics

You will be focusing on Skeletal Reaver Minions as your primary damage tool, leveraging their bonus scaling effect from Rage to reach insane levels of Attack Speed and Damage, and the newly introduced Minion Splash II to improve their ability to clear packs of enemies. Into the Breach, from the Acolyte of Chayula Ascendancy will grant them a HUGE amount of extra damage as Chaos Damage, while supportive skills like Despair and Pain Offering will further amplify your damage output against tanky Rare and Boss monsters.

Refutation should be used on Cooldown, keeping you on Low Ward to enable the Warding Rune of Bodyguards socketed in your Sceptre to grant all Minions in your Presence Onslaught. A combination of Life, Energy Shield, Evasion and Deflection along with your screen of Minions will work together to keep you safe.

If you are a Trial of the Sekhemas farmer and want a bit more speed for clearing fast, this build can be run with Spectre: Gargantuan Wasp and performs very well. Simply drop Gigantic Following from the High-budget tree, and the Prism of Belief can be swapped to the Spectre version!

Video Guide

Ascendancy

  1. Into the Breach: Will periodically spawn Flames of Chayula, which will automatically be collected to provide powerful damage scaling with Choice of Power.
  2. Lucid Dreaming – Choice of Power: Makes all Flames of Chayula spawn as purple, and increases the effect they grant you. You then grant these Remnant effects to your Minions through Selfless Remnants.
  3. Chayula’s Gift: Doubles the effect of any Chaos Resistance.
  4. This build does not benefit from any 4th Ascension, so you will not need to acquire it.

Skill Tree

This interactive skill tree will provide you with an overview of the final state of the build. When assigning travel Attribute Nodes, you will want to account for the requirements of your Skill Gems and Gear, and may have to respec some nodes as you find upgrades and progress.

There are 2 Passive tree setups in the Passive Tree Tool below. The first assumes an early, lower budget approach, and should be used until you can acquire a From Nothing for Necromantic Talisman. After you get your From Nothing Jewel, you can swap to the second Passive tree. When you do, you will want to assign Regenerative Flesh, and the 4 outermost passives on its 4 arms, as well as Gigantic Following. This is not supported in the tree tool, but should be a priority over the final few points.

Gem Info

In the Planner below, you will find a full list of Skill Gems and their Support Gems listed in order from highest to lowest priority, top to bottom, left to right. When choosing where you should use currency such as Perfect Jeweller’s Orbs, you can use this table as a guide. Make sure you remember to Quality your Skill Gems as well, as many of the Skills in this build benefit significantly from Quality.

Minion Splash II helps improve your clear significantly, but can be replaced if you acquire a Breach Crafted Belt with the Minion Splash affix. If you get one of these, swap Minion Splash II for Heavy Swing, or if you have the currency the much more valuable Dialla’s Desire.

Brutus’ Brain Support is a very large quality of life Support Gem for your Pain Offering, making it functionally immortal allowing your Minions to benefit from its effect for its total duration.

Skill Rotation

As with many Minion builds, you don’t typically cast your skills on a set Rotation, instead focusing on using them conditionally for specific reasons. Here is a list of your actively used skills, and when to use them:

  • Despair should be used against tanky Rare and Boss enemies to shred their Chaos Resistance.
  • Freezing Mark will enable Mark for Death support to shred enemy armour, and should be maintained on bosses.
  • Pain Offering is a large damage steroid that should be used whenever you are fighting in a static situation, such as during League Mechanic Encounters, or when fighting Bosses.
  • Refutation should be used on Cooldown to keep your Ward low, enabling Onslaught for your Minions. When entering a Boss fight, you should activate it JUST before the boss finishes spawning in, and then (if you are brave and want more damage) deliberately get hit by the Bosses first attack. This will apply the Parry debuff for 50% more attack damage from your Minions!

In the table below, you will see a breakdown of the most important affixes for each gear slot, as well as what unique items the build uses. These are listed in order of priority, so consider your gearing options carefully.

Instilling Your Amulet

To unlock the ability to Instill your Amulet, you will need to progress along the Delirium Questline. When you have the ability to Instill, you should add Enhanced Reflexes to significantly improve your defensive power. If you can can afford it, Avoiding Deflection is the superior choice for improving your defenses, and should be instilled instead.

Unique Items

Bones of Ullr – These Boots will dramatically improve your reservation efficiency, increasing the number of Minions you can have on the field.

Alpha’s Howl – This Helmet will double your Presence radius, making maintaining Flames of Chayula stacks on your Minions much easier. It also provides good Evasion, Cold Resistance, and a huge 100 Spirit. If you can find one with a +1 Level of All Minion Skills corruption, even better!

Forgotten Warden – This Body Armour will help scale your Evasion and Energy shield, and will also grant you a free Companion that can be socketed with Shapeshifting skills that it will use. This enables the use of Romira’s Requital for strong generic Damage Reduction.

High Budget Options

From Nothing – Allowing you to allocate passives in radius of Necromantic Talisman lets you pick up several important passives that allow some changes to your Passive Tree. This is a very valuable Jewel to add to the build.

Rare Crafted Breach Belt – This is a difficult and very expensive upgrade to acquire. It requires deep crafting knowledge or a lot of currency. You will want to find a Belt with the +2 Level of all Minion Skills and Minions’ Strikes have Melee Splash modifiers.

Prism of Belief – As with almost all builds, a Prism of Belief with +2 or +3 Level of your primary skill is always a significant power increase. Keep an eye out for these!

Augments

This table will show you what Augments are used for each gear slot.

Jewels

This build can leverage strong affixes on Sapphires to scale your Skeletal Reaver Minions, here are a few you should keep an eye out for:

  • % Minion Elemental Resistances (until you reach Minion Resistance Cap)
  • % Increased Minion Damage
  • % increased Minion Attack Speed

In addition to regular Jewels, you could also pursue Unique jewels such as Heart of the Well, though it has incredibly high variability of affixes, or Prism of Belief (Skeletal Reaver) for additional skill levels up to the maximum cap of Level 40.

Flasks and Charms

The recommended setup for your flasks and charms is:

  • Life Flask – % increased Recovery Rate | % reduced Charges per use
  • Mana Flask – % of recovery applied instantly | % reduced Charges per use
  • Charms – Thawing Charm, Gold Charm, Silver Charm
    • Also grants # Guard | % reduced Charges per use
