Guide Format

This build guide is split over multiple pages, both to prevent it from getting too long, as well as to help you better find the information you are looking for. In addition to the current page, which presents general information about the build and also contains a Leveling and FAQ section, we have the following pages:

Introduction

The Animate Weapon & Summon Raging Spirit Necromancer raises up to 20 Raging Spirits and 14+ Animate Weapons with aggressive behavior, which will seek out your enemies. Both Animate Weapon Animate Weapon and Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit scale the same way and this is why both skills sinergize very well into a build. We are looking to pick up all the Skill Effect Duration and Minion Duration possible, which raises Raging Spirit’s duration up to 15+ seconds and Animate Weapon’s duration to 110+ seconds. The Necromancer ascendancy class can be used to a great effect for all of the build’s purposes.

Animate Weapon Animate Weapon could be built-around for years but it always felt so clunky due to the nature of the skill. With the Gem now being reworked we are finally looking at something that is worth investing into. Bladefall Bladefall will allow you to Animate blades left on the ground, which will solve issues with your army of Animations being one-shot by boss mechanics. The skill reaches its full potential faster in general and has more damage and utility than before.

Build Summary

The build is a great league-stater due to the fact it does not require any mandatory items in order to work. It has great clear speed, which will ensure you can build up a good amount of currency in to time, which you can then invest in order to tackle the endgame content. Ideally you would want to wield a Two-hander, which will give you access to two six links for both of your main skills. Besides that you want to scale your damage via Minion Damage and additional Gem levels.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Hardcore viable
+ Fun playstyle
+ Great damage potential
+ Can run most map mods
+ Amazing league-starter

Cons

- Requires active play style, which may not be for everyone
- Mediocre defense

Playstyle

Offensively, in the start of a new zone you will use a Bladefall Bladefall and Animate the maximum number of your Animate Weapon Animate Weapons. After that every so often you should Unleash Support Unleash Support a set of Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirits. Flesh Offering Flesh Offering affects both you and your Minions and should preferably have 100% uptime.

Defensively, staying behind your army is what you should be doing. If your Minions get stuck somewhere, use Convocation Convocation to recall them on top of you. Flame Dash Flame Dash will help you dodge lethal game mechanics. When properly geared you will easily achieve over 6,5k Life in the endgame, which will allow you to take big hits before going down.

For Playstyle, make sure you alternate your playstyle between offense and defense. Using Divine Ire Divine Ire will allow you to apply Elemental Equilibirum from a huge distance and command your Minions.

Passive tree

This is the endgame passive skill tree for the build.

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

Leveling Trees

This passive skill tree is everything mandatory you need. Beyond that you should start following the endgame passive tree, picking whatever you need first. If you have decent Cluster Jewels you can cut some of the endgame passive tree in order to invest into Cluster notables.

Useful Leveling Unique Items

As you begin a new character, there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters. Matua Tupuna Matua Tupuna, Mark of the Red Covenant Mark of the Red Covenant and The Baron The Baron can make your leveling experience way easier.

If you are a new player (or if this is your first character for the league), then note that obtaining these items will be very difficult, if not impossible. They are rare drops, which you can otherwise only acquire if you have saved up currency, so do not focus on them too much, and instead simply look for items that match the affix priorities listed in the gearing section above.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.

In order to acquire gems that are not available to your class as a quest reward, simply ask a friend to buy them off vendors for you, or buy them yourself from Sioasa in The Library in Act III Library.

From level 1, you should use the following link.

  1. Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse
  2. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support
  3. Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support

You should also carry the Raise Zombie Raise Zombie socketed in your gear in order to level the gem.

At level 4, you should pick Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit and Animate Weapon Animate Weapon in order to level the Gems.

At level 8, you can drop your Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse link and start using Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit instead.

  1. Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit
  2. Minion Damage Support Minion Damage Support
  3. Melee Splash Support Melee Splash Support
  4. Added Fire Damage Support Added Fire Damage Support
  5. Maim Support Maim Support
  6. Ruthless Support Ruthless Support

At level 10, you should add Flame Dash Flame Dash for additional mobility. You should also pick Summon Skeletons Summon Skeletons in order to level up the gem.

At level 12, you should pick Flesh Offering Flesh Offering.

By level 18, your Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit link should look like this.

  1. Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit
  2. Minion Damage Support Minion Damage Support
  3. Melee Splash Support Melee Splash Support
  4. Melee Physical Damage Support Melee Physical Damage Support
  5. Maim Support Maim Support
  6. Added Fire Damage Support Added Fire Damage Support

At level 24, you should pick Convocation Convocation. Around that level you should also be able to sustain your Raise Zombie Raise Zombies.

  1. Raise Zombie Raise Zombie
  2. Minion Damage Support Minion Damage Support
  3. Melee Physical Damage Support Melee Physical Damage Support
  4. Added Fire Damage Support Added Fire Damage Support

At level 28 you will have access to Bladefall Bladefall, at which point you should use it to animate blades using the following Animate Weapon Animate Weapon link.

  1. Animate Weapon Animate Weapon
  2. Minion Damage Support Minion Damage Support
  3. Melee Physical Damage Support Melee Physical Damage Support
  4. Ruthless Support Ruthless Support

As soon as you hit level 38 your Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit should look like this.

  1. Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit
  2. Minion Damage Support Minion Damage Support
  3. Melee Splash Support Melee Splash Support
  4. Unleash Support Unleash Support
  5. Multistrike Support Multistrike Support
  6. Melee Physical Damage Support Melee Physical Damage Support

FAQ

What map mods does the build struggle with?

Chain and No Regeneration are tough, but manageable.

What anoint should we go for?

Ravenous Horde is the best anoint for the build.

Conclusion

The Animate Weapon & Summon Raging Spirit Necromancer is a summoner that has amazing endgame potential and can also be levelled very easily, using its core Gem setups.

Changelog

    Hello!

Thank you for this build. I have been using it and having a lot of fun! I do have a question regarding dexterity and the spirit guards jewel. With your passive tree build, where is the best place to put that gem in order to activate being able to used ranged weapons? I am having trouble finding somewhere with 40 dex, so I figured I’d ask the actual creator. Thanks again!
