Introduction

The Cold Snap of Power Occultist (Witch), featuring Herald of Ice, is a ranged spellcaster that excels at speed-farming maps with insanely fast mobility and massive screen-wide explosions. A powerful Frostblink of Wintry Blast Frostblink of Wintry Blast kills enemies while you fly through maps, causing chain explosions with Herald of Ice Herald of Ice to clear enemies off-screen. Against bosses, Cold Snap Cold Snap deals higher damage that is capable of reaching up to 150M DPS.

Compared to the previous Cold Snap of Power Hierophant Build, the newer Occultist version is a faster mapper due to Frostblink of Wintry Blast Frostblink of Wintry Blast with 200% Increased Cast Speed from Corpse Pact. It’s also easier to play, since Fanaticism no longer needs to be maintained with Shield Charge Shield Charge weaving. As a Power/Frenzy Charge stacker, the final setup requires a higher budget to acquire Screams of the Desiccated with Massive and Resonating Shrine Buffs, followed by up to 3 Synthesised Rings each granting +1 Maximum Power Charges.

If you are just getting started in a League, consider the Hierophant version of the build since it has a much lower cost of entry for the starter setup due to +205% increased Area of Effect available from the ascendancy and Forbidden Jewels.

Build Mechanics

Cold Snap of Power Cold Snap of Power (CSoP) is an ideal skill for this build due to its exceptional base damage, effectiveness of added damage, and 10% base critical hit chance. The cooldown of CSoP is bypassed by consuming Power Charges. Its Skill Gem grants 50% Chance to Gain a Power Charge on Critical Strike, combined with another 64% from Power Charge On Critical Support Power Charge On Critical Support. Ensure you apply 20% Quality to both Gems for the full effect.

The build focuses on damage scalars that apply to Cold Snap of Power Cold Snap of Power, Frostblink of Wintry Blast Frostblink of Wintry Blast (FoWB), and Herald of Ice Herald of Ice (HoI), such as Power/Frenzy Charges, Increased Cold/Generic Damage, Added Cold Damage, Critical Strike Chance, and Critical Damage Bonus. Herald of Ice explosions are considered Secondary Damage, so they do not benefit from bonuses to Attack or Spells, such as Increased Spell Damage or Archmage Support Archmage Support.

Corpse Pact from the Necromancer Ascendancy is granted by Forbidden Flesh Forbidden Flesh and Forbidden Flame Forbidden Flame to gain 4% Increased Cast Speed for each corpse Consumed Recently, up to a maximum of 200%. This massive speed boost is easily fully ramped up by Devour Support Devour Support on Cold Snap of Power Cold Snap of Power and Herald of Ice Herald of Ice, especially when clearing enemies during high-density activities. Against bosses, Arcanist Brand Arcanist Brand linked to Desecrate Desecrate and Volatile Dead Volatile Dead ramps up the increased Cast Speed buff and applies Shock from Corpse Pact.

With Greater Spell Cascade support, CSoP’s radius needs to be at least 4.8m for all 5 explosions to overlap at your target. Obtaining a 4.8M radius breakpoint for CSoP to shotgun enemies greatly boosts single-target damage output. For the starter setup, ensure you have enough increased Area of Effect from Passive Nodes and Cluster Jewels in the Passive Tree, along with Increased Area of Effect Support Increased Area of Effect Support. Carcass Jack Carcass Jack can be equipped if additional radius is needed.

Due to the efficient damage scaling and shotgun mechanic, the Cold Snap of Power Hierophant is capable of reaching 150M DPS, while having proper defenses.

Multiple layers of defense enhance survivability. Life and Energy Shield are combined for a high effective hit pool. Attack Block, Spell Block, Evasion, and Spell Suppression are utilized to reduce incoming hits. Life Leech and Energy Shield Leech are relied on, so scale damage output to quickly recover any damage taken.

Playstyle

Hold down Frostblink of Wintry Blast Frostblink of Wintry Blast to quickly traverse and kill most enemies while mapping, causing chain explosions from Herald of Ice Herald of Ice to blow up everything multiple screens away. If more damage is needed against tougher enemies, spam Cold Snap of Power Cold Snap of Power.

Against bosses, a simple skill rotation can be executed to deal maximum damage:

  1. If you do not yet have any Power Charges, spam Frostblink of Wintry Blast Frostblink of Wintry Blast before the fight.
  2. Cast Arcanist Brand Arcanist Brand on the boss to automatically activate Desecrate Desecrate and Detonate Dead Detonate Dead, ramping up the Increased Cast Speed and applying Shock from Corpse Pact. Recast Arcanist Brand every 3 seconds to maintain the buff.

Map Modifiers to Avoid

Certain combinations of modifiers on maps can increase difficulty, such as stacking multiple monster damage modifiers. You should figure out which modifiers your current build struggles with from experience. The following list of modifiers can cause issues and may need to be avoided entirely.

  • ❗Players cannot Regenerate Life, Mana, or Energy Shield
  • ❗Monsters Reflect Elemental Damage
  • ❗Players have less Area of Effect (can prevent explosions from overlapping, reducing single-target damage)
  • ❗Monsters Steal Power/Frenzy Charges on Hit
  • ❗Monsters Avoid Elemental Ailments (can prevent Herald of Ice from exploding)
