Summary – TL;DR

As per usual, nothing matters more than capping your Elemental Resistance before anything else. This means modifiers on gear are subordinate to Resistances as long as you’re not capped. Since you’ll be running a decent amount of Unique items, it’ll be important to look out for a lot of resistances on your Rare pieces!

We’re providing you with an extensive analysis further down the page but chose to start off with an overview / recommendation.

Armour Pieces

Helmet

Generally, picking up an enchanted base and spamming essence on it should work fine. You should spam until high suppression & a decent resistance with Essence of Greed. Lastly, through unveiling, you’ll eventually unlock Mine Throwing Speed which you’ll use to finish of the item. For your Eldritch Implicits, you want Fire Pen & Spell Crit.

Body Armour

Your body armour would be a very well rolled rare ES/EV piece, ideally a Sadist Garb. This will help you reach the necessary Energy Shield thresholds. A Carnal Armour can be used to, as it will give you some extra mana which comes in convenient. You’re looking for Energy Shield, Evasion, Resistances and depending on your total amount of energy shield, a Faster Recharge Rate roll can come in convenient as well. Finish it off with Zealotry Effect & Crit Multiplier!

If you do not roll any life modifiers on your chest piece, you should allocate the Mastery that grants you 15% Increased Maximum Life if you have no Life Modifiers on Gear. This replaces the 50 Maximum Life mastery.

Gloves

Your gloves should generically just have Life, Resistances and perhaps some suppression. Lategame, however, you can look to grab a pair of “Temple Gloves” which have the “Damage with Hits against Chilled Enemies” modifier (You can also grab a pair which has the Fire or Lightning modifiers and swap Lightning or Fire to Cold. The Damage effect will change alongside the resistance). Combine this with any needed suppression and resistances.

When you buy this item from trade, you should generally only care about the suffixes as you can fix prefixes through either crafting Suffixes Cannot Be Changed and using a Veiled Chaos Orb Veiled Chaos Orb or use Eldrich Chaos after blocking your Suffixes through Eldritch Dominance.

The desired implicits for your gloves would be Mine Throwing Speed, paired with Fire Exposure on hit.

Boots

Again, a pretty straight forward item. The BiS option here is almost always better to just craft yourself. To make some nice boots, I recommend buying a nice base with T1 Fractured Life. You would then Spam Essences. Using Chaos Resistance Essence, it would take you about 200 on Average to find a 36%+ Elemental Resistance & a T2 or higher Spell Suppression Roll. Once you settled on suffixes, you can craft suffixes cannot be changed and veiled chaos. Before unveiling, block Mana to guarantee a Movement Speed unveil. Ideally, you want the 100% chance to avoid chill combination with Movement Speed so you don’t have to worry about chills anymore.

Belt

Belts are usually used to fix problems. This is no exception. You can easily keep a very straightforward & standard belt for a really long time. However, most optimally, you would want to Essence spam a Stygian Vise (ideally with a nice Fractured modifier). This is cause this enables the essence-only modifier “Trap & Mine throwing speed” coming from Zeal Essences. In an ideal world, you hit it with essences until you hit T1 Life & at least a single good suffix. Lastly, you can block the last suffix by crafting something on the bench & slam a Hunter's Exalted Orb Hunter's Exalted Orb on it. This could land you Chaos Damage or Increased Maximum Life. Two great outcomes. Finish of your belt by removing the suffix craft, and crafting Mana. You can eventually Exalt on a last suffix hoping to hit something nice.

Accessories

Amulet

This is a pretty versatile slot. You should probably start of by filling out all your other slots and checking how much power you can pack here. Generally, you’ll be on the hunt for Strength & Dexterity whilst wanting some nice damage stats. Critical Strike Multiplier is about equal to +1 to All Spell Skill Gems so you should go for the cheaper option first. A neck with a good amount of life, crit multiplier, and a few other relevant stats is nice. Make sure to finish it off by crafting Mine Throwing Speed on the crafting bench as that’s one of your best stats.

Anoint

The recommended anoint is Prodigal Perfection as this is the only Mana node that gives damage and you need some extra mana for the reservation such as explained on the main page.

Rings

Your first ring, and also a priority purchase, should be the Profane Proxy Profane Proxy. This basically gives your Skitterbots a Blasphemy Aura which is necessary to make Hexblast do damage. Since Skitterbots’ range is both further and easier applied, this is a huge upgrade to a Blasphemy Aura. Your second ring should be a Curse on Hit Ring, optimally with Flammability on hit. On top of that, basically anything you can find on there is nice. Resistances, a tiny bit of Attributes, nice life rolls etc are all desireable.

Tip: Hitting a Warlord Ring with “Reforge Caster” in Harvest gives you a pretty good chance of hitting the Warlord modifier “Curses enemies with Flammability on hit”

Weapon

You’ll be on the hunt for a +2 Wand with optimally added affixes. The best way to do this is to buy a Wand base with fractured Spell Crit and using Fossils to force +2 to Chaos Spell Skills by using Corroded Fossil Corroded Fossil, Metallic Fossil Metallic Fossil & Shuddering Fossil Shuddering Fossil together. The wand can’t ever be higher itemlevel than ilvl 82 as that adds chaos damage to the pool. This has a 1/12 of hitting both +1 to All & +1 to Chaos Spell Skill gems. This will almost exclusively happen if the item rolls 6 affixes because the 3rd possible Prefix this item can roll is Spell Damage. Given that Spell Damage rolls are much more common than gemlevel rolls, it’s highly unlikely you are going to be left with an open prefix or an open suffix. In an optimal world, you hit a very high Spell Damage roll, whilst having a single open Prefix, but since winning the lottery is only for a select few, let’s talk about what to do in specific scenarios.

Option 1: 5 Affixes, 3 Prefixes

If you hit 3 Prefixes and an Open Suffix, you just benchcraft Mine Throwing Speed unless you have a lot of excess currency. You can then proceed by trying to go for the Aisling or Veiled Chaos method which is described at the bottom in the perfect Wand section.

Option 2: 5 Affixes, Full Suffixes

This is a tricky one. If you’re at the end of your currency, you can use beastcrafts to Suffix to Prefix and remove the suffix to add a prefix. Then you can craft Mine Throwing Speed. In this case, you lose out on either the Spell Damage or Mine Damage but you save a lot of currency. These 4 modifiers will give you enough damage initially for sure. If you’re adamant about going all the way, you’re going to have to Annul of a suffix. This is a 1/4 chance to hit and 2/4 to brick the item.

Option 3: 6 Affixes

This requires you to Annul in order to get Mine Throwing Speed on there. It’s a 40% chance to brick the item so if you don’t have currency to go again, just settle for +2 and whatever spell damage you got and be happy with it. Otherwise, again, try to Annul of a suffix, in order to craft throwing speed, or try to hit both annuls if you want to beat a low damage spell damage roll.

Perfect Wand

This step is the way you should be going when you are trying to make the perfect wand. You can add in another step, which basically guarantees you an almost perfect item. The start of the proces is about the same. You’re looking to lock in your 3 Prefixes. Depending on your budget, this means that you will roll over (or sell) all +2 Wands that don’t roll reasonably high Spell Damage. Once again, you’re aiming to be left with only your Prefixes & your Fractured Suffix. This is done by freeing up a suffix by annuling one off if necessary. You can now craft “Prefixes Cannot be Changed” and choose one of two ways to add a Veiled Modifier to your item. The safest, and usually more expensive way, is by using Aisling T4. This guarantees you an open suffix after this step. The cheaper, easier and less annoying option is to use a Veiled Chaos Orb Veiled Chaos Orb. This however has the possiblity of filling up your suffixes once again which means you’ll have to annul afterwards. You can usually buy T4 Aislings for about 2-3 Divine Orb Divine Orb, so I recommend taking that route. After you added a Veiled suffix, you should craft one of the “Damage over Time Multipliers” to block those unveils from showing up. If you then unveil the item there’s a 60% chance you can pick either Damage Per Frenzy, Damage per Power, Crit Multiplier when a Unique Enemy is nearby or any of the Double Damage modifiers. The best you can pick here is crit multiplier, for sure, but any of the other outcomes are desirable too. Should you miss, you can just Prefix Cannot be Changed and use a Orb of Scouring Orb of Scouring to go again.

Shield

For your shield, in a most optimal scenario, you want to hit both Spell Crit & Chaos Spell Skill Gems on a fractured Spell Damage base (make sure it’s an Es base, otherwise you can’t hit +1 Skills) by reforging Chaos on the Harvest Station. If you happen to hit a very high Life Roll (or another very desirable prefix you want), you can craft Suffixes Cannot Be Changed, Reforge Crit to guarantee Spellcrit. If you’re not satisfied with the tier of the Spell Crit, you can repeat this process infinitely (it’s costly though). If you hit a mediocre spell crit, and chaos spell skill gems, I personally recommend crafting Life & calling it a day. You have plenty of damage, you don’t necessarily need to minmax for damage unless you’re very high up there in terms of gear & currency-levels.

Flasks

Our recommendation:

Slot Flask
1 Specialist’s Quicksilver Flask Quicksilver Flask of the Impala
2 Specialist’s Stibnite Flask Stibnite Flask of the Owl
3 Specialist’s Diamond Flask Diamond Flask of the Cheetah
4 Specialist’s Jade Flask Jade Flask of Incision
5 Bubbling Divine Life Flask Divine Life Flask of the Assuaging

Be sure to check out our Flask Crafting Guide to learn everything you need to know about how to set up your non-Unique flasks.

Jewels

Cluster Setup

In the lategame, you’re running one Large Cluster & 1 Medium Cluster all focused towards dealing as much daamge as possible.
On the Large Cluster Jewel Large Cluster Jewel, Touch of Cruelty combined with Unholy Grace & Unwaveringly Evil. You want this Cluster Jewel to have 8 Added Passive Skills, not more.
For the Medium Cluster Jewel Medium Cluster Jewel, you’re on the hunt for an Expert Sabotage & a Guerilla Tactics with at most 5 Added Passive Skills.

Rare Jewel

You rare jewels can be used to fix Resistances, Attributes and/or Mana. Afterwards, Critical Strike Multiplier for Spells is your best damage modifier. Other than that, generic damage is pretty solid.
If you can afford it, having % increased maximum life on jewels is always BiS.
