Introduction

Settlers of Kalguur is a league mechanic where you collect resources and manage a settlement – collecting your rewards as time passes in real-time.

You’ll need to keep your settlement supplied with a steady stream of Gold and Resources, and be savvy in how you manage your Workers and Shipments. In exchange, you’ll gain access to Runegrafts, Tattoos, and Recombination Crafting – and have literal boat-loads of currency automatically delivered to you… even when you’re not logged in!

Changes in 3.28

  • The rewards for Shipping Ore and Crops have been swapped – Ore now returns Currency, and Crops return Equipment
  • Favoured Resources at Ports can be rerolled for 15,000
  • Ports now grant specific Tattoos and Runegrafts
  • Ports no longer have a bias towards specific currency types
  • Smelting is faster, but costs more Gold

Kingsmarch

Settlement of Kingsmarch

The settlement of Kingsmarch is a town – accessible by portal – that contains many Buildings and NPCs you’ll be interacting with as you manage the settlement. As you progress through the league, you’ll manage Workers, Buildings, and collect your rewards.

For more information on the various buildings, check out the “Buildings” section of this guide:

Buildings

Gold

Gold UI

While Gold is a universal drop throghout the game, its use is heavily tied to Kingsmarch.

Gold is spent as your currency to hire Workers and pay their wages. It doesn’t matter how much Ore you have – you can’t make a shipment unless you have enough Gold. This makes the acquisition of Gold your crucial to getting rewards from Kingsmarch.

Gold is considered a regular item drop, and will scale with effects that cause more items to drop (such as area IIQ). If you intend to make use of Kingmarch, it’s strongly recommended that you have a plan for farming gold.

Real-Time Progression

Atlas Runner Completion Notification

In a first for Path of Exile, many mechanics in Kingsmarch progress in “real-time” – that is to say, things will have timers that continue to progress whether you’re there or not.

These timers will continue to tick down even if you’re offline – allowing you to login to a bounty of rewards waiting for you! …Or to Workers who stopped work because you ran out of Gold to pay them.

NPCs that have rewards for you to collect will have icons over their heads to indicate this. Additionally, while you’re logged into the game you’ll receieve notifications when various tasks are completed.

Workers

Worker Hiring UI

Workers are hired NPCs that you assign to various tasks within Kingsmarch, to generate or process resources, or to generate rewards.

Workers have traits denoting what tasks they’re good at. Be sure to assign workers to matching tasks – you don’t want to send someone specialized in Mining to guard your valuable shipments – the pirates will just make quick work of them!

Workers can be hired from the Tavern, for a hiring fee of Gold. Once hired, you will have to pay an hourly wage (also in Gold) for them to continue working for you. Upgrading the Tavern grants access to Workers with higher tier traits – with accompanying higher fees and wages.

For more information on Workers, check out the “Workers & Management” section of this guide:

Resources

Resources List

Kingsmarch can acquire and trade in a large variety of Resources. From grown crops, to Ore you collect in maps, to thaumaturgic dust you get from disenchanting items. Some of these resources can be used to pay for services within Kingsmarch, and all of them are used to trade for rewards via Shipping.

Resources cannot be traded with other players.

Unprocessed Ore

Mining UI

Unprocessed Ore is a type of Resource that is found within zones and Maps. Each type of Ore will start a different, short encounter – granting you their respective Ore upon completion. This Ore is simply “tagged” and cannot be used until it is processed by Miners in Kingsmarch.

For more information on the various Resources and how to acquire them, check out the “Resources” section of this guide.

Resources

Shipping

Shipping UI

Shipping allows you to trade Resources for rewards – and is one of the primary ways you earn rewards through Kingsmarch.

Shipping allows you to send boats packed with your hard-earned Resources and crewed by Workers to various ports, to exchange those Resources for regular PoE rewards – like currency, uniques, scarabs, etc.

Shipping is quite complicated – and requires you to effectively manage every aspect of Kingsmarch to make the most of.

For more information on Shipping, check out the “Shipping” section of this guide.

Kalguuran Map Devices

Kalguuran Atlas Device UI

Kalguuran Map Devices can be constructed once you reach maps, allowing you to assign your Workers to run maps for you – collecting all the loot within! This is an incredibly powerful way to generate additional rewards, passively.

For more information on the Kalguuran Map Devices, check out the “Kalguuran Map Device” section of this guide.

Runegrafts & Tattoos

Runegrafts and Tattoos are powerful consumable items that allow you to replace nodes on your character’s Passive Skill Tree with new, alternate nodes. You must have that passive node allocated in order to apply a Runegraft or Tattoo to it.

Runegrafts are applied to the Mastery nodes on the skill tree, to transform them into a new Mastery node. Only one Runegraft of each type can be applied to a skill tree at once.

Tattoos can replace attribute nodes on the passive tree. Most tattoos replace the small +10 attribute nodes, but a few replace the +30 attribute notables. A character is limited to 50 Tattoos applied to their skill tree at once.

Runegrafts and Tattoos can be replaced by using another one on the node, or removed by using an Orb of Scouring on the node.

Crafting & Services

Currency Exchange UI

Kingsmarch features several additional services.

Recombination allows you to create items that are more powerful than ever, while Disenchanting gives you the Dust you’ll need to use it.

For more details on these crafting methods and services, check out the “Crafting & Services” section of this guide.
