Build Introduction

Here we are going to take a look at a very powerful build that uses the key node Minion Instability, with Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit as its main source of damage (but we also have Raise Zombie Raise Zombie to protect us). The two main ingredients behind the build are these two items: Tavukai Tavukai and The Baron The Baron. Thanks to the The Baron The Baron, we will always have an army of zombies around us to protect us from any harm and leech lots of life to us, but that is not the best part – The Baron The Baron gives half of our Strength to our minions which means they not only get extra Melee Physical Damage – they get Extra Life. This is where Tavukai Tavukai comes in. Tavukai doubles our Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit‘s damage and health, but makes them suffer Chaos damage over time. Once our Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit reach Low Life, they will explode for a huge amount of damage, essentially becoming homing missiles; usually one spirit can clear an entire pack of monsters and you are summoning around 20 of them.

FAQ

How does Minion Instability work ?

Minion Instability causes our minions to explode once they reach Low Life (33% to be precise). Thanks to Tavukai Tavukai, this will happen all the time to our Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit. The damage of Minion Instability increases the more Life our Minions have, but also from Minion Damage increases as well. This is why we are using The Baron The Baron, so we can increase the Life of our Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit while increasing the Physical damage of our Raise Zombie Raise Zombie as well, and also granting us some extra Life.

What content can the build really do ?

The build has no problem with all of the game’s content. It is an extremely powerful build with cheap costs to start with.

For the new Blight content, we just stay near the Purification Pump and use Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit as much as possible. They will go out on their own and hunt everything. Once one of them explodes, it usually clears at least 10-20 enemies. Completing Blighted maps without using any towers is possible (but not recommended).

Uber lab is another thing the build can do with relative ease. We will have a huge amount of Life Regeneration. Also the build has a pretty high amount of reduced Physical damage, which is great when it comes to the Uber Lab’s traps.

Uber Elder is entirely possible once you upgrade your gear and get some levels.

Pros & Cons

Pros

+ Really fast boss killer
+ Fast clear speed
+ Fairly durable
+ Cheap to get going
+ Playing from safe distance

Cons

- The build is durable, but not durable enough for Hardcore play

Playstyle

The playstyle of the build is relatively simple. We will have our Raise Zombie Raise Zombie to protect us and Leech Life for us. We will be using Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit as much as possible, and using Flame Dash Flame Dash for mobility (usually we cast 3-4 spirits and Flame Dash Flame Dash). It is recommended we keep around 12 spirits while we are clearing – they will hunt everything in the area. It is like a two layer defense – the Spirits will kill everything in the outer area and the Zombies will kill everything in the inner area.

For bosses, we have a similar advantage as the Saboteur’s mines. We can use Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit as much as possible before the Boss fight even starts – and once it starts they will all go and explode into him (usually this will kill the boss within a second or switch him to the next phase). As already mentioned above, the main playstyle includes summoning a couple of Spirits, using Flame Dash and Bone Barrier and then repeating (this might be a bit hard to get used to). However, if you are clearing a high level map and you do not feel confident enough to clear yet, you can simply summon as much Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit as possible and move slowly.

Ascendancy – Necromancer

Normal Lab – Mindless Aggression

Mindless Aggression will make our leveling a lot easier as it gives us pretty much everything we need for our Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit and Raise Zombie Raise Zombie

Cruel Lab – Bone Barrier

Next we will pick Bone Barrier from the Cruel Lab. This will be our main source of defenses. But will also increase out Minion Life which means more Damage for Minion Instability. Once you obtain this node you shouldn’t have any problems while leveling up.

Merciless Lab – Unnatural Strength

Unnatural Strength will boost our Minions Life and Damage by a lot.

Eternal Lab – Commander of Darkness

Commander of Darkness will help us with more Elemental resistances and further increase our damage.

Note : Usually switching from Purity of Elements Purity of Elements to Determination Determination should happen once you have this node ( unless you already have maximum resistances without Purity of Elements Purity of Elements)

Bandits & Pantheon

Bandits

Kill them all.

Pantheon

Major God

For a major god, the best one is Soul of Lunaris for the extra damage reduction.

Minor God

For a minor god, the best one is Soul of Tukohama as, it reduces physical damage taken while stationary. We could use the extra damage reduction while casting Summon Raging Spirit.

Gear / Items

Weapon

For weapon, the best option is having a Convoking Wand Convoking Wand that has the stat “Minions deal % increased Damage”, the optimal being at least 70%, but they can go much higher than that as the cost also increases tremendously. The stats recommended on our rare Wand are the following:

  1. Minions deal % increased Damage
  2. Minions have % increased Maximum Life
  3. + to Strength

Note: Use Earendel's Embrace Earendel's Embrace until you get a better weapon.

Shield

For a shield, the best in slot is a rare shield with the following stats:

  1. + % total Resistances (until capped)
  2. + to Strength
  3. + to Maximum Life
  4. Regenerate % of Life per second

Helmet

The mandatory, build-enabling Unique here is The Baron The Baron.

Body Armour

A rare body armour with the following stats is best in slot:

  1. + % total Resistances (until capped)
  2. + to Strength
  3. + to Maximum Life
  4. + % increased Maximum Life

Gloves

The mandatory Unique here is Meginord's Vise Meginord's Vise.

Belt

The mandatory Unique here is Cyclopean Coil Cyclopean Coil.

Boots

The mandatory unique here is Alberon's Warpath Alberon's Warpath

Rings

For rings we will go with two Rare rings with the following stats:

  1. + % total Resistances (until capped)
  2. + to Strength
  3. + % to maximum Life
  4. + % increased Strength

Amulet

The mandatory unique here is Tavukai Tavukai.

Note: You can look for a Corrupted version with % increased Strength.

Jewels

We will be using Brawn Brawn as much as possible (4-5 times, depending on the amount of Intelligence we have from items and how much intelligence our Brawn Brawn reduce). As for the other gems, look for the following stats:

  1. + to Strength
  2. + to Dexterity (if needed)
  3. + % increased Maximum Life
  4. + % increased Minion Damage if you’ve used a Minion Skill Recently
  5. + % total Resistances (until capped)

Note: Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with Determination Determination mods is great to have.

Flasks

For this build we will not be benefiting much from any special flasks. Just make sure you have decent instant recovery life flasks that remove bleeding (Staunching) and freezing (Heat). You should also use Quicksilver flask, preferably with duration increase – you can get 2 of them. A burning remove will also come in hand. The build does not benefit from any unique flasks.

Be sure to check out our Flask Crafting Guide to learn everything you need to know about how to set up your non-Unique flasks.

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

This build is fairly easy to level up, as we will be getting our Raise Zombie Raise Zombie from level 2 and our Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit on level 4. We should start linking them separately. Link your Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit with Infernal Legion Support Infernal Legion Support as soon as possible. After that, you can add Minion Damage Support Minion Damage Support.

Since we will not have Tavukai Tavukai while leveling up, we will be using the Infernal Legion Support Infernal Legion Support to trigger our Minion Instability. The 4th link you can add to the Summon Raging Spirit Summon Raging Spirit is Minion Life Support Minion Life Support and Spell Echo Support Spell Echo Support for a 5th one. Once you have your Tavukai Tavukai, remove your Infernal Legion Support Infernal Legion Support and switch it with one of the gem links from above.

As for the Zombies, link them with fFeeding Frenzy Support Feeding Frenzy Support and Multistrike Support Multistrike Support as early as you can. Use Clarity Clarity and Purity of Elements Purity of Elements while leveling up. Equip your The Baron The Baron at level 26.

Some generally useful leveling Uniques are:

Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa
Goldrim Goldrim
Praxis Praxis x2 or Rare rings that reduce mana cost of spells
Wanderlust Wanderlust
Earendel's Embrace Earendel's Embrace

Conclusion

This build has an amazing amount of damage being able to clear the entire game content. The only weakness is the time it takes for your Raging Spirits to explode.

Hey Cappie, Thanks for doing this build guide. I just hit 90 with it and thought I’d share something.
My wand is linked with Faster Casting + Flame Dash + Determination. Using an Empower with Determination seems like a massive waste IMO. I also took out the Inc AOE from the totem setup and added Vaal Molten Shell since it’ll get Inc Duration bonus.

This gives me another buff to use with Bone Armor when things get crazy and I have 3 open sockets in shield.
For shield, I added Animate Guardian + Minion Life + Meatshield. I don’t have a ton of currency yet but AG can buff damage or defenses depending on what you felt was more necessary.

Just wanted to share that and thanks again for the guide. Very fun build to play!

    Hey Harrrison,

Thanks for sharing. I am currently experimenting with changes for the build as well and I didn’t think of Animate Guardian. Glad you liked the build !

Edit : I added Feeding Frenzy Support to the Zombies today and took out Meat shield support. I use Meat shield with the Golem/Spectres instead. It feels much better as the Zombies will go out and hunt everything and we benefit more from the Life leech.

I know it’s expensive but what do you think of this jewel for this build; Fortress Covenant Cobalt Jewel?

    Hi,

For me personally the build already has enough damage as it is and I wouldn’t want my minions (zombies) to take the extra damage as well. Stacking Strength to the max is what worked best for me . If we are talking about expensive jewels a good one is Efficient Training Efficient Training ( keep in mind we will still need lot’s of intelligence for our Convoking Wand Convoking Wand ) . I am also using 2 Brawn Brawn a Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye and the other jewels are Strength/Dexterity/Life.

Note that this is my personal opinion and you are free to try Fortress Covenant , there is always room for improvement.

I did the meat shield/feeding frenzy switch and it does feel a little better. Seems to be a bit more uptime on feeding frenzy. Good idea there! I’m really enjoying the 3L animate guardian setup in my shield. I gave the AG a kingslayer, victario’s flight, ambu’s charge, a minion helm with “-9% enemy fire resistance”, and gloves with “elemental weakness on hit”

I don’t think the gloves trigger very often and I’m still using the totem/flammability setup but only for tough bosses.
Just hit 92 and taking a break to play a different build. I’ll post again if I think of anything new but probably not much room for improvement.
