Trial of the Ancestors League Mechanic Guide Rewards

Introduction

The Trial of the Ancestors league mechanic introduces a number of new league-specific Rewards. These Rewards can only be obtained from successfully completing Matches and Tournaments – with higher Ranking Tournaments offering better rewards.

Skill Tattoos

Skill Tree with Tattoos

The primary Reward associated with TotA is Skill Point Tattoos. These Tattoos are consumable items that replace allocated attribute-granting passive skills on the skill tree with a new modifier.

Tattoos have different restrictions on what types of attribute passives they can replace. Most replace only a specific type of attributre, while others work on any. While most tattoos replace +10 attribute small passives, others replace +30 attribute notables, and provide much stronger effects.

Most Tattoos are associated with a Tribe, and can be obtained as a reward for defeating that Tribe in a match.

Some Tattoos have additional requirements or limits – such as requiring a specific number of adjacent, allocated passives.

Additionally, there is a limit of 50 applied Tattoos per character.

Loyalty Tattoos

Loyalty Tattoo Tooltip

Loyalty Tattoos are limited to 1 per character, and each grant a skill that summons a minion when its trigger condition is met.

These minions provide the player with a passive buff, and this buff scales with the number of allocated Tattoos you have of its associated Tribe: +20% per Tattoo.

The minions have a base duration of 12 seconds, and a cooldown of 80 seconds (and the cooldown doesn’t start until the duration of the minion ends).

Because Loyalty Tattoos trigger from Unique enemies, and provide powerful defensive effects, they can be VERY useful for both bossing characters, and for the Trial of the Ancestors itself!

Honoured Tattoos

Honoured Tattoo Tooltip

Honoured Tattoos do not have an associated Tribe, and instead are awarded from Tournament wins. As a result, these Tattoos are significantly rarer than most of the Tribe Tattoos!

Journey Tattoos

Journey Tattoo Tooltip

Journey Tattoos, like Honoured Tattoos, do not have an associated Tribe and are awarded from Tournament wins. Journey Tattoos all have unique – and powerful – effects that incentivize unusual skill trees, or using many Tattoos.

Hinekora’s Lock

Hinekora's Lock

Hinekora’s Lock is a powerful new chase crafting item, exclusively available as a possible Reward for winning Tournaments. It can be used on an item, allowing you to see the outcome of crafting on that item before actually crafting.

All you have to do is – after applying Hinekora’s Lock to an item – right-click the currency you want to use, and then hover over the item you with Hinekora’s Lock on it. The tooltip will change to what the item will look like after using that currency item.

Because this works with all effects where the “crafting” is tied to your mouse cursor, it also works with double-corrupt chambers in Incursion Temples.

Once a Hinekora’s Lock is applied to an item, you can simply run through every type of currency, and see what would happen to your item if you were to use it. What modifier would be added from an Exalted Orb Exalted Orb, what modifier would be removed from an Orb of Annulment Orb of Annulment, and so on.

This effect goes away once the item is actually modified in any way – which can actually be useful, in that it allows you to “re-roll” the outcome of any craft. You can continue doing this until Hinekora’s Lock predicts the outcome you want, allowing you to deterministically craft any item you want. Blessed Orbs and Divine Orbs are both great for resetting an item with poor Hinekora’s Lock outcomes.

As a result of its deterministic crafting power, this item is used in the creation of mirror-tier items, is incredibly desirable to end-game crafters, and is extremely valuable.

Uniques

As with all League Mechanics, Ancestors features a number of Unique items.

There are two sources of Uniques in TotA – Match Rewards, and Tournament Rewards. Each of the 10 tribes has a Unique you can get from defeating them as a math Reward, and the Tournament itself has 4 Uniques you can get as a Reward for emerging victorious.
