Some people just want to watch the world burn. If that’s you, then this Infernal Legion build is perfect for you! Spread Oil all over the map, and watch your Gargantuan Wasp light everything on fire, easily melting any and all opposition you encounter, from the toughest Bosses to the most densely packed League Mechanics!

Strengths and Weaknesses
- A true hybrid playstyle combining powerful utility from you, and high damage from your Tamed Beast
- Cheap to get online, lots of ways to scale
- Doesnt require constant manual weapon swapping
- To maximise Boss damage requires a specific rotation with several buttons
- Will do less Single Target damage than weapon swapping versions, but is more comfortable
Build Mechanics
The core mechanics of this build include using
Into the Breach combined with
Selfless Remnants to grant your Tamed Beast a large amount of Damage as Extra Chaos damage, and scaling Remnant Effect to get the most out of this combination. Your primary damage source is the Ignite caused by
Infernal Legion II (and then later,
Catha’s Brilliance) which you will spread screen-wide with
Oil Grenade.
Defensively, the build uses a combination of high Evasion and Deflection to avoid and mitigate incoming damage, with a reasonable amount of Energy Shield improving your hit pool and providing a buffer to protect against one-shots.
Ghost Dance provides some burst sustain when you are hit, allowing you to quickly recover a lot of energy shield over a short duration without relying on recharge.
Scaling the Ignite
You will use several interesting pieces of tech to get the most out of
Infernal Legion II on a
Tame Beast: Plague Harvester. While it may seem like a lot of Skills and Mechanics, in general play the build is very smooth. Simply move around the map, firing
Oil Grenade to spread the Ignites caused by your Beast, and occasionally cast your
Elemental Weakness Curse to keep your mana from being full, enabling
Upwelling II.
If you encounter difficult static content, such as Bosses or Arena-style League Mechanics like Ritual or Expedition, you can place down your
Elemental Weakness Cursed Ground and use
Frost Bomb to shred off enemy Resistances,
Sniper’s Mark with powerful utility Supports to apply Shock and amplify your damage, and
Spearfield to Aggravate your Ignite using the
Saitha’s Spear Unique effect to double your damage!
Ascendancy
- Into the Breach: Will periodically spawn Flames of Chayula, which will automatically be collected to provide powerful damage scaling with Choice of Power.
- Lucid Dreaming – Choice of Power: Makes all Flames of Chayula spawn as purple, and increases the effect they grant you. You then grant these Remnant effects to your Minions through
Selfless Remnants. - Chayula’s Gift: Doubles the effect of any Chaos Resistance, and increases its maximum value.
- Archon of Chayula: This Archon skill provides some powerful utility when paired with a specific set of Support Gems, increasing your defenses and damage for 10 seconds when used.
Skill Tree
This interactive skill tree will provide you with an overview of the final state of the build. When assigning travel Attribute Nodes, you will want to account for the requirements of your Skill Gems and Gear, and may have to respec some nodes as you find upgrades and progress.
You will find two separate Skill Trees that you can switch between. The first assumes a low to medium budget approach, and the second a higher budget. This build is perfectly capable of clearing all content on the lower budget Skill Tree.
For the High Budget Tree, you will be using a
From Nothing on Crimson Assault to gain access to several additional Passives. You will want to take Nourishing Ally, as well as all of the small passives in its cluster that provide Companion Life. You will also want to take Escape Strategy, Multitasking and Perfectly Placed Knife, and all of these From Nothing passives should be taken as a priority.
Gem Info
In the Planner below, you will find a full list of Skill Gems and their Support Gems listed in order from highest to lowest priority, top to bottom, left to right. When choosing where you should use currency such as Perfect Jeweller’s Orbs, you can use this table as a guide. Make sure you remember to Quality your Skill Gems as well, as many of the Skills in this build benefit significantly from Quality.
This build utilizes several powerful Lineage Support Gems, but these can quickly get expensive if popular builds are using them. In the Low-Medium Budget Skill Planner below you can see what options you can use before acquiring them.
The most important Lineage Supports for this build are
Xoph’s Pyre and
Catha’s Brilliance. Xoph’s Pyre will allow you to capture a new Tamed Beast without requiring it to have the “All Damage Can Ignite” modifier, letting you get more powerful offense scaling modifiers. Catha’s Brilliance removes the degeneration component of Infernal Legion, and adds a Blind effect to your Tame Beast, which improves survivability for both you and your Tamed Beast.
To get the most out of this build you will need to assign certain skills to your different weapon sets. You can do this by opening the skills advanced information window by clicking the small arrow located just above the damage in your Skills window, and then checking the boxes marked “I” and “II” in the bottom right corner of that window.
Oil Grenade should be set to the Weapon Set you have your Crossbow equipped in, and All Other Active Skills should be assigned to the Weapon Set with your Spear and Sceptre. When not firing Grenades, you should be spending your time, by default, in the Spear Weapon Set to maximize the power of your Tamed Beast.
Ghost Dance and
Wind Dancer should be allocated on both Weapon Sets to ensure they are gaining their charges and are active no matter what Weapon Set you are currently in.
Skill Rotation
The build functionally has two different rotations, one for when you are clearing or dealing with large groups of enemies, and one for maximizing your single-target damage against extremely tanky Rare or Boss enemies. Here is what you need to do in those situations:
Clearing
- Use your
Oil Grenade, focusing on spreading the Oil around, or in the direction you are traveling to maximize your clear speed. - Try to avoid having your Mana full by occasionally casting
Elemental Weakness on top of Rare monsters or big packs. - If you find very tanky Rare monsters, you can hit them with your
Frost Bomb and
Spearfield to inflict Exposure and aggravate the Ignite for a huge boost in single-target damage.
Bossing
- Right before the Boss spawns, cast
Elemental Weakness and spam out several
Spearfield. - When the Boss spawns, cast
Frost Bomb and
Sniper’s Mark on them. - Continue hitting them with
Spearfield to re-aggravate Ignite if necessary
Gearing
In the table below, you will see a breakdown of the most important affixes for each gear slot, as well as what unique items the build uses. These are listed in order of priority, so consider your gearing options carefully.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure that you are capped at 75% Elemental Resistances and meet all Attribute Requirements when you are changing gear pieces.

Instilling Your Amulet
To unlock the ability to Instill your Amulet, you will need to progress along the Delirium Questline. When you have the ability to Instill, you should add Bond of the Cat to speed up your Tamed Beast and improve the quality of life when clearing. Once you can can afford it, Warlord Leader will provide you with a significant damage boost, both directly with % increased Minion Damage, and by increasing your Presence radius to improve the consistency on your Flames of Chayula being passed to your Beast.
Unique Items
Saitha’s Spear – When hitting an enemy with this spear, you can Aggravate any bleeding on the target, and when you do so you also Aggravate Ignite. When combined with
Spearfield and
Bleed III you can reliably apply Bleed, Aggravate it and the Ignite from your Beast, and effectively double your damage!
If you can afford it, getting a
Saitha’s Spear with the double corruption outcome that removes the fire damage to prevent accidental low-value ignites, and replaces it with Culling Strike will open support slots in your build by letting you remove Immolate support from Spearfield and Culling Strike support elsewhere.
Cospri’s Will – This Body Armour provides you with a passive and free
Withering Presence, and makes Wither you apply have infinite duration. It also causes your Curse Skills to have infinite duration. This combination will allow you to stack powerful Wither debuffs without worrying about additional investment, and will also make your Cursed Ground permanent for improved Quality of Life. The long-lasting Cursed Ground gives similar benefits to a Blasphemy Aura, but costs no Spirit and does not require you to be close to your targets.
Blackflame – The recently updated version of this ring makes Wither also increase Fire Damage taken by your target, granting a massive increased damage taken multiplier when you stack up your Wither using
Cospri’s Will.
Sanguis Heroum – Will protect you from Bleeds, and when triggered will also grant some Curse Resistance and Health Regeneration.
Nascent Hope – Protects you from Freeze, and on trigger will start your Energy Shield Recharge, helping you recover from large hits more quickly.
Lavianga’s Spirits – Passively regenerates mana without needing to be used, smoothing out the gameplay experience. Just remember to keep your mana from being full to keep
Upwelling II active.
High Budget Options
From Nothing – A From Nothing on Crimson Assault gets you access to a lot of powerful Nodes on the Passive Tree, and should be a Priority after acquiring
Catha’s Brilliance and
Xoph’s Pyre.
Rare Crafted Breach Belt – This is a difficult and very expensive upgrade to acquire. It requires deep crafting knowledge or a lot of currency. You will want to find a Belt with the +2 Level of all Minion Skills and other useful modifiers. This will likely require attempting to Fracture the Level of all Minion Skills modifier, and then an extensive and expensive crafting process.
Prism of Belief – As with almost all builds, a Prism of Belief with +2 or +3 Level of your primary skill is always a significant power increase. In this case it’s Tamed Companion. Keep an eye out for these!
Augments
This table will show you what Augments are used for each gear slot. Where multiple Socketables are listed, they are listed in priority order, and often require Exceptional bases to fit the extra Augments.
| Slot | Socketable |
|---|---|
| Main Hand | Greater Rune of Alacrity / Rune of Vitality |
| Off Hand | Stoat Idol / Primate Idol |
| Main Hand 2 (Crossbow) | Soul Core of Azcapa (as many as you can fit) |
| Helm | Idol of Ralakesh / Quipolatl’s Soul Core of Flow |
| Body Armour | Resistance Runes as needed / Craiceann’s Rune of Warding / Perfect Iron Runes |
| Gloves | Fenumus’ Rune of Draining / Katla’s Gloom |
| Boots | Farrul’s Rune of the Chase / Resistance or Iron Runes |
Jewels
This build can leverage strong affixes on Emerald Jewels to scale your Companion Life and Damage, both useful for scaling the damage from
Infernal Legion II or
Catha’s Brilliance. Here’s what to look out for:
- Companions have % increased Maximum Life
- Companions deal % increased Damage
- % increased effect of Prefixes (From Liquid Emotion Crafting)
In addition to regular Jewels, you could also pursue Unique jewels such as
Heart of the Well, though it has incredibly high variability of affixes, or Prism of Belief (Tame Companion) for additional skill levels up to the maximum cap of Level 40.
Flasks and Charms
The recommended setup for your flasks and charms is:
- Life Flask – % increased Recovery Rate | % reduced Charges per use
- Mana Flask –
Lavianga’s Spirits - Charms – Thawing Charm, Gold Charm, Silver Charm
- Also grants # Guard | % reduced Charges per use
