Ascendancy

Ascendancy

  1. Pyromaniac
  2. Bomb Specialist
  3. Born in the Shadows
  4. Demolitions Specialist

Explosives Expert is an alternative to Demolitions Specialist. See the Additional Information section for a comparison.

Additional Information

The Ascendancy choices for this build are the same for either variant, as is the recommended order of ascension. All of the keystones are relatively valuable to the build, and it is absolutely acceptable to alter the order in which you acquire the Ascendancy nodes, though feel Pyromaniac is too strong of a leveling node to not be taken immediately.

  • Pyromaniac is a common first choice for all Saboteur builds, due to its incredible leveling benefits. The ailment immunity combined with the Life regeneration adds a potent amount of defense to your exile, and the reduced Mana cost offers higher quality of life than it may first appear. Your character will already have enough damage to clear without carpeting the area in mines, making Pyromaniac the logical choice to allow you to play and clear faster and more aggressively.
  • Bomb Specialist is a great second pickup, upping your damage right around the point in the game where you can start making full use of it. This node is especially excellent for farming Blood Aqueducts while leveling, as the bonus is virtually always active, however, it is a formidable all around damage keystone. In the end-game, Bomb Specialist has a very high uptime, and is an incredible node for bosses in particular.
  • Born in the Shadows is a fantastic keystone for both offense and defense, and is recommended as the third pickup. The all around benefits of this keystone feel great to unlock right as you are heading into maps, and tougher end-game content. Additionally, Uber Lab feels a lot safer with this keystone, and the permanent Blind is not to be undervalued.
  • Demolitions Specialist further improves damage output and adds a Hinder effect to your Mines. This is extremely valuable defensively as it allows you quickly and safely reposition without being swarmed by enemies. It is absolutely a required choice for deeper Delving and the generally recommended choice for all builds, especially if you have any interest in leveling to 100. Damage from this keystone is still exceptional.
  • Explosives Expert is mostly a choice made for all-out damage, with a small area damage reduction. If you are using a Call of the Brotherhood Call of the Brotherhood ring or have any other means of chilling enemies reliably this keystone gains additional value, especially for bossing. Typically we find that the damage gained from this keystone is not as essential for the build as the benefits from Demolitions Specialist, but some players prefer going a more “glass cannon” style of play that injects even more damage into the build.

Deal With the Bandits Reward

Our recommendations for Bandits depend on what version of the build you opt to play:

  • Life-based: Kill all of the Bandits for the passive points.
  • Low-life: Help Alira for the Critical Strike Multiplier and Resistances.

In either version of the build Alira is the best option for league starting due to the early injection of Elemental Resistances. If you are not able to put the extra points to good use yet, for example, to get an extra Jewel, then we recommend going with Alira for the consistent benefit.

Pantheon Powers

Pantheon choices, as with many builds, are fairly trivial for general use and largely come down to personal preferences.

Major Gods

  • Soul of Solaris: Simply the best Pantheon for bossing, with all three upgrades being worthwhile pickups.
  • Soul of Lunaris: Great for general mapping and delving. The first two upgrades are good pickups to further reduce incoming damage. If you are using a golem, the third upgrade equates to a quality of life upgrade, and will reduce the number of times you need to resummon it.

Minor Gods

  • Soul of Garukhan: A great choice for general clearing, and should be upgraded as soon as possible.
  • Soul of Aberrath: Highly recommended for Low-Life.

Tried this build and I don’t get how anyone would want to play this way.

Call me crazy, or stupid, could be either. But this guide appears to be missing the “mines” part, of the arc mine guide.

Am i just not seeing it? It seems to be telling me to use arc for everything. Did you accidentally delete a segment when updating to 3.7? Or is some combination of gems generating mines out of thin air? I have no idea.

I’d appreciate any clarification, I just reached level 10 with a saboteur before i realized the guide was missing chunks, am i supposed to be using lightning spire traps? are those supposed to be in the 6 link instead of arc? I’ve never played a miner so i have literally no clue as to the gaps i need to fill in here. So now i’m going to go level up something else and hope for a reply.

Edit: Nevermind, turns out i was an idiot the whole time.

Furty, why u didn`t use PoB? It is very uncomfortable to use PoE Planner. It would be great if you would use step-by-step lvling with PoB. For beginners like me, this is very relevant and useful.

And yes, thank you vm for guide.

Mainly because of the effort required to keep all the POBs updated across all of our guides. It’s definitely a superior tool by a wide margin, but filling out a complete POB and keeping it updated is almost as much effort as writing an entire other guide. In the future we might start adding them if we have some more manpower to work with, so I wouldn’t write it off entirely either!

Thanks for the answer! In this case, I have a suggestion: is it possible to make screenshots with a step-by-step leveling tree and insert them into the guide?
It is very difficult for a novice player to decide which nodes need to be taken first and which ones can be taken for short-term gain, but then they can be reset.

    Thanks for attention.

Hi do u think this build will be good with the mine changes in 3.8 or will the other mine spells be better in your opinion? Want to do a mine build that can do the blight content + delve 500-600 depth. Or should I wait for the updates/new builds. Ty for the answer :)

It’s difficult to keep this sort of thing updated with so many guides to maintain but I can try and provide some general advice within them in the future. One of the main issues is that the advice is very contextual based on gear and choice of league and it pains me to provide information which can be erroneous depending on the player’s experience with the game or current gear. That said, I’ll see what I can do!

As it says in the gems section, Tremor Rod Tremor Rod is used in most cases which supplies the mine gem. If you are not using Tremor Rod Tremor Rod, there is a recommended link in the Rare Wand section.

It’s difficult to say this early without full information. I’d guess that it would stay very powerful but require a few alterations.

I’m working on it over the night. It should be updated in part for 3.8 — not sure if I will get to the Low Life part immediately, but the Life-based version will definitely be ready to go.

Hi, I know that u have a lot of work with the updates but what’s better in your opinion, can’t decide between arc mines saboteur or pathfinder toxic rain + HoA. Which is better for delving and doing bosses (Aul etc.) and has okay clearspeed/movement speed as a league starter.

Without testing the mines changes in-game yet, I would lean towards mines for bosses. Historically these types have builds have always been dominant and cheap for those types of activities, and just unpopular due to their playstyle and archetype. Personally I’d probably lean towards toxic rain and herald of agony for overall fun factor, but that might just be my personal preference.

    Hey man!

I played only 1 season (Betrayal) before Blight.

I saw your build topic, wanted to try out ; so first of all thank you I enjoyed going through the 10 acts really smoothly!

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————

    Curtain call HUGE change

In Blight Curtain calls requiries 800 dex &/or int. So I’m trying to theory craft right now to figure out if I should get 800 dex OR 800 int ; as well as going for 2nd curse, or huge lightning dmg boost, or huge shock boost (any of those requires 7 points, pbbly affordable)
Cause 800/800 is most probably impossible, maybe doable in very end-game if you sacrifice a lot elsewhere.
I’d say 800 int is cool for mana pool & MOM
But 800 dex is awesome for evasion & the belt (immune to freeze)

And uh.. no Aul’s uprinsing amulets on poe.trade right now in blight.. because people didnt delve enough yet ?

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————

    Spell totem support
In my Personal opinion after 15 hours : totem for detonate isn’t really worth the 3 slots=> you have so many mines exploding you don’t have to press that much the detonate key once you have a very cheap 4L tremor ; plus the totem HP pool & range are bad so it’s only useful in rare cases like boss.
I replaced it with the CWDT / immortal call / increased duration

    Ice Golem
I use CWDT with the ice golem (2L) cause : summoning every other 20s is like crazy annoying plus the cast animation makes you “take a break” while running through the maps. (CWDT = no cast time, we’re speed runners YAY)

    Elemental focus
If I understand well, with that gem I can’t ever inflict shock with Arc mine ? Isn’t that.. “bad” ? Cause if we go for only 800 dext or int we could also use 7 points to get a lot of nodes to increase like hell the effects of shock..

    Phase run
Added an efficacy gem for some juicy fractions seconds ; not much better gem choices anyway

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————

Hope you’ll answer all those questions & help me optimize my cheap gear for early mapping (currently T2-T4)
And maybe my feed backs can help you improve the guide for others.

    Thank you!

Hey, Furty, Curtain Call helm has been changed to requiring 800 int/dex in 3.8?
