Passive tree

Here is an endgame passive skill tree. Early on we should focus on Life, Poison and Damage Over Time with Bow skills. First head to the Duelist starting area while picking all the Life and bow nodes on the way. Then pick up Druidic Rite, Primal Spirit and head to Acrobatics.

Gems

The build’s main skill is Toxic Rain Toxic Rain, which should be used in a 6-Link ideally. Herald of Agony Herald of Agony is used in order to improve the build’s single target damage output. For mobility, you use Blink Arrow Blink Arrow. Wither Wither can be casted by a Totem in order to improve damage versus tougher enemies even further.

For all the gem links we provide below, keep in mind that we list the gems in order of priority (starting from the top left, going to the right on each row of the links), meaning that if you lack the required number of sockets to fit all the gems, the first ones to drop are the ones at the bottom (with the bottom right being the last). Also note that in-game, as long as the sockets are linked, it makes no difference at all what order the gems are placed in.

Toxic Rain (6-Link)

The build’s damage is mainly back-ended, which means you rely on damage over time and poisons in order to kill enemies. One or two attacks with Toxic Rain Toxic Rain should be enough to deal with every pack of monsters. For single target, you can rely on the strong slow the skill applies and rain down chaos upon your enemies, while also keeping your character at a safe distance.

  1. Toxic Rain Toxic Rain
  2. Vicious Projectiles Support Vicious Projectiles Support
  3. Added Chaos Damage Support Added Chaos Damage Support
  4. Void Manipulation Support Void Manipulation Support
  5. Swift Affliction Support Swift Affliction Support
  6. Deadly Ailments Support Deadly Ailments Support

Herald of Agony (6-Link)

Herald of Agony Herald of Agony is a great source of single target damage for the build. All the poisons that you apply will empower your agony crawler, which has an immense damage potential late game.

  1. Herald of Agony Herald of Agony
  2. Minion Damage Support Minion Damage Support
  3. Damage on Full Life Support Damage on Full Life Support
  4. Vicious Projectiles Support Vicious Projectiles Support
  5. Maim Support Maim Support
  6. Vile Toxins Support Vile Toxins Support

Blink Arrow (2-Link)

Blink Arrow Blink Arrow is your main mobility skill. Even though it has a short cooldown it is very useful when you need to jump a screen away in a matter of a second.

  1. Blink Arrow Blink Arrow
  2. Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support

Wither (4-Link)

Wither Wither can add a huge chaos damage multiplier when stacked up to 15 stacks on an enemy.

  1. Spell Totem Support Spell Totem Support
  2. Wither Wither
  3. Faster Casting Support Faster Casting Support
  4. Multiple Totems Support Multiple Totems Support

Other gems

Summon Stone Golem Summon Stone Golem can be used for the additional life regeneration it provides. Vaal Clarity Vaal Clarity can be utilized if you have Mana problems on single targets. Steelskin Steelskin should be used for additional damage mitigation.

If I understand your question correctly, you are wondering what class you should pick. Ranger is the right one, once the ranger ascends, it becomes Pathfinder. If you are new to the game feel free to ask anything, we are happy to help.

Fangs of the Viper no longer connects to that dexterity node beside it. Can you recommend an updated passive tree?

After trying a Tornado Shot/Pathfinder build and it not working the best starting at Maps Tier 6, I was glad to find this and how well it works. Thanks!

First of all, love the build, having a great time with it. I’m having trouble building up poison stacks for Herald of Agony, is there something I missed?

    Cheers

Using Pathfinder’s Master Toxicist allows your Virulence stacks fall off 50% slower. High attack speed will also help out a great deal, you should easily keep up 30+ stacks most of the time, which should be enough.

i don’t get this build early in game using blue gems (NEEDS a lot of INT)
i butthurt a bit because this is not mentioned at all, you say you need to cap all elemental resists, how? no way to do this im already at 67 lvl with -60% each resist and shit I can do about it, not to mention I cannot equip any blue gems because there’s not enough INT

how can you explain this? followed this build from scratch and spent hours not having fun at all, one hit kill character

    Hey!

Basically what Vvckd said above, but to word it a bit differently.

Getting Intelligence to allow you to equip gems is “easy”, though I know it can certainly look frustrating. Go to poe.trade (here’s a guide to help figure it out if you need to https://www.poe-vault.com/guides/beginner-guide-to-poe-trade-blight-38) and find an amulet, ring, or helmet with a lot of Intelligence. You can easily get 50 or more Intelligence on even one such piece. Here is an example poe.trade search you can start from (items requiring level 67 or less, so you can equip right away): http://poe.trade/search/ayemkezawonama .

If by one hit character you mean that you die very easily, that is almost certainly due to the lack of resistances. By level 67, the game gets quite punishing, and if you have negative resists, you are indeed going to be like a sheet of paper. Capping the resists is very important, as the guide states, but at this stage I wouldn’t focus on that completely as a goal – getting them to 50%+ for each one (except Chaos, which you can basically ignore) should be the first order of business.

Another reason you might be dying is lack of Life. In addition to resists, you’ll want to look for items that have Maximum Life on them – the more the better. Typically, it won’t cost you much to find some with life and resists.

Let us know how you get along and if you have any more questions!

thanks for the reply, you mentioned few of the unique items above which are not viable for this kind of game, as you know its not possible to put resist cap on unique items, so what is the sense of following your equipement and uniques in this build? this completely ruined my game and ~300 chaos orbs getting the items you mentioned… for me as a newbie this is very disappointing, fact the ranger is high dps and can do damage but is a piece of pape, lots of stuff i still do not understand

I don’t really understand what you are talking about. The gearing section of the guide provides room for lots of Rare items where the top priority is resistances. The helmet, boots, amulet, rings, and belt are all listed as Rares (with a few unique suggestions for special cases) – those alone should be more than enough for you to cap your resists.

It seems like there’s a communication issue somewhere between you and the guide. I’d be happy to help you figure things out – just send me a PM if you want and we can chat.

The current skill trees linked in the build seem to still be for 3.6, they moved the mana node it’s now acuity and there is no longer a master fletcher next to avatar of the hunt. Loving the guide thanks :)

    Hey!

Thanks for the comment. The skill tree issue is because the guide hasn’t been technically updated to 3.7 – we’re working on that now.

Section 6.8 gives a few good bow options, some of which are available at lower levels. And not too expensive!

    @Vlad,

You think that build can be a good choice to start in 3.8?

    Best regards!

Hey, I’d like to answer, even though the question is not directed to me. The Toxic Rain Pathfinder is definitely a decent league-starter for the Blight league.
