Introduction

Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam has been a very solid melee skill since its release. It has very high base damage, great area coverage and respectable single target damage output. The skill has great synergy with the Juggernaut ascendancy class, simply because it allows you to maintain Endurance charges and make use of the Charged Slam portion of the skill. In this build guide we will be mainly talking about making use of the unique Sword Oni-Goroshi Oni-Goroshi, but the same concept of the build can be used with any other weapon choices.

Build Summary

It would be great if you have some saved up currency, because a well geared version of the build can get expensive. If you manage to get the Oni-Goroshi Oni-Goroshi, you will not have to worry about a linked Body Armour, which allows you to use Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart for a great survivability boost. Since we are playing a Juggernaut, two Kaom's Way Kaom's Way rings will allow you to reach a very high amount of Endurance charges along with great Life Regeneration. If you cannot afford these things you can simply dual wield two somewhat decent swords and make use of cheap good Body Armours like Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast.

Playstyle

Offensively, Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam will create a screen-wide slam that will clear monster packs smoothly. When encountering tougher single targets, you can make use of Ancestral Warchief Ancestral Warchief and War Banner War Banner.

Defensively, a high amount of Life Regeneration and Endurance charges will help you deal with most of the dangers. When properly geared, you will easily out-regenerate the degeneration effect of Oni-Goroshi.

For Playstyle, you should stay offensive most of the time. Make use of the charged up War Banner when you need more single target damage; when dropped down it will buff you with Adrenaline, which essentially sends you in a rampage state for a short duration. When you feel comfortable with your Life Regeneration, you can start using Blood Rage Blood Rage for additional Attack Speed and Frenzy charge generation.

Ascendancy, Passive tree, Bandits and Pantheons

Ascendancy (Marauder – Juggernaut)

  1. Unflinching
  2. Undeniable
  3. Unbreakable
  4. Unyielding

Unflinching is the great sustain of Endurance charges which we will rely on.

Undeniable will provide a great amount of Attack Speed and Accuracy Rating.

Unbreakable gives additional damage mitigation along with a great amount of Life Regeneration.

Unyielding provides additional offensive aspect of Endurance charges, along with making them even easier to sustain.

Passive tree

This is the endgame passive skill tree you should follow if you are using Oni-Goroshi. If you choose to dual wield Swords or any other type of weapon, simply pick the appropriate nearby damage nodes near Marauder and Duelist.

Bandits

For this specific build we should help Alira in Act II. The critical multiplier, flat mana regeneration, and 15% all elemental resistances are stronger than the 2 passive skill points.

Pantheons

Major: Soul of Solaris is a great choice for the build, passively it provides a lot of damage when fully upgraded.

Minor: We recommend the upgraded version of Soul of Ralakesh for most Critical-based Attack builds. The Blind immunity proves to be very strong in certain situations, while the Maim immunity is also helpful. The Bleed mitigation is just another reason to pick this minor God power. Based on personal preference, other minor Pantheons can be used.

In order to do that you need to have Divine Vessel in the Map Device while you are activating the particular map, then just kill the map boss and give the captured soul in the vessel to Sin in Oriath.

Gems

Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam is your signature skill, which should ideally be used in a 6-Link. For mobility, you should use Leap Slam Leap Slam. For buffs, you should use Herald of Ash Herald of Ash and Anger Anger. Ancestral Warchief Ancestral Warchief will augment your single target damage. War Banner War Banner will provide additional percent Accuracy Rating and damage, it will also give you the ability to deal a good amount of burst damage via the Adrenaline buff. Blood Rage Blood Rage should be used for additional damage.

For all the gem links we provide below, keep in mind that we list the gems in order of priority (starting from the top left, going to the right on each row of the links), meaning that if you lack the required number of sockets to fit all the gems, the first ones to drop are the ones at the bottom (with the bottom right being the last). Also note that in-game, as long as the sockets are linked, it makes no difference at all what order the gems are placed in.

Tectonic Slam (6-Link)

Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam is a ground-targeting melee skill that slams for a high amount of base damage. It has base conversion from Physical to Fire damage of 60%; the skill also has the chance to consume an Endurance charge in order to have increased area of effect and deal more damage. We recommend one gem link that works great for both clearing and single target.

Leap Slam (4-Link)

Leap Slam Leap Slam will improve your overall mobility by a great deal, it will also give you the Fortify buff for a short duration when you land on enemies.

  3. Blood Magic Support Blood Magic Support
  4. Fortify Support Fortify Support

Ancestral Warchief (4-Link)

Ancestral Warchief Ancestral Warchief will help out with additional single target damage. You can additionally use its Vaal version to bypass the maximum number of totems summoned, this way you will be able to have two placed totems at a time.

Other Gems

For buffs, you should use Anger Anger, Herald of Ash Herald of Ash and War Banner War Banner. Once you feel comfortable with your Life Regeneration, you can add in Blood Rage Blood Rage.

Gearing

Capping your elemental resistances is essential and it should always be your top priority in any build; it should be the first thing you do when gearing up a character. Obtaining a 6-link, while very powerful and certainly recommended, can potentially be very expensive (requiring an average of 1500 Orbs of Fusing, obviously depending on your luck); as such, this should not really be a goal for you while gearing up, and you should instead settle for a 5-link until you have enough resources. Acquiring an Oni-Goroshi Oni-Goroshi will let you not worry about 6-linking your item at all, since it comes pre-sixlinked. Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart, Kaom's Way Kaom's Way and Kaom's Roots Kaom's Roots can be very expensive, but will boost your survivability to the next level. A simple Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast will carry you a long way.

Helmet

A well rolled rare helmet is best in slot. Starkonja's Head Starkonja's Head is also a decent choice. For labyrinth enchants, look for “Tectonic Slam has 20% chance to create a Charged Slam”. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil)
  4. Nearby Enemies have -9% to Fire Resistance (Scorched Fossil)

Body Armour

Kaom's Heart Kaom's Heart, Loreweave Loreweave and Belly of the Beast Belly of the Beast are three of the best choices for the build. You can also make use of a well rolled Elder-based Body Armour. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil; Elder Prefix)
  4. Attacks have +#% to Critical Strike Chance (Elder Suffix)
  5. Socketed Gems are Supported by Level 1 Maim (Serrated Fossil)
  6. % of Physical Damage from Hits taken as Cold Damage (Essence of Horror)

Gloves

Well rolled rare Spiked Gloves Spiked Gloves are a great choice for the build. You can also make use of Tombfist Tombfist. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 60)
  3. % increased Attack Speed
  4. # to Accuracy Rating (at least 300)

Boots

Well rolled rare boots will help you fill in resistance gaps and socket starvation. You can make a great use of Kaom's Roots Kaom's Roots. Ideally, you would want corrupted boots for the +1 to Additional Maximum Endurance Charges. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % increased Maximum Life (Pristine Fossil)
  4. % increased Movement Speed (not mandatory)

Belt

A well rolled rare belt is best in slot. Stygian Vise Stygian Vise is a good choice for a base. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 80)
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attacks (at least 25%)
  4. % increased Fire Damage (Scorched Fossil)
  5. % increased Elemental Damage (Prismatic Fossil)

Amulet

A well rolled Elder-based amulet will provide a lot of extra damage to the build. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 50)
  3. Gain #% of Physical Damage as Extra Fire Damage (Elder Prefix)
  4. Gain #% of Non-Chaos Damage as extra Chaos Damage (Elder Prefix)
  5. % increased Elemental Damage with Attacks (at least 25%)

Rings

Ideally, you would want to wear two Kaom's Way Kaom's Ways. Since these rings are expensive, you can make use of well rolled rare rings until you can afford the Kaom’s Way. The rare affix priority is:

  1. +#% total Elemental Resistances (until capped)
  2. +# to maximum life (at least 50)
  3. % increased Elemental Damage with Attacks (at least 25%)

Weapon

For this particular build guide, we choose to play around the Oni-Goroshi Oni-Goroshi unique Sword. You can also play the build by dual wielding other unique Swords like Scaeva Scaevas, or any other weapons you choose. Well rolled physical weapons can also be used, look for at least 300 pDPS.

Flasks

There are many flask choices that can increase your damage output considerably. For more budget-friendly options, you should look for Atziri's Promise Atziri's Promise and Lion's Roar Lion's Roar. Taste of Hate Taste of Hate can be expensive, but very powerful. The Wise Oak The Wise Oak will help you penetrate more Fire Resistance. As in every other critical-based build, a Diamond Flask is mandatory. Divine Life Flask can be used in sticky situations, you should have it instant or half-instant with bleed removal suffix. For more defence you can use other utility flasks like Basalt, Granite, Ruby, Sapphire or Topaz.

Jewels

The build does not require any particular jewel in order to work. A Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with Anger Anger mods can provide a lot of power but can be very expensive. You should prioritize Regular jewels over Abyssal jewels.

Regular Jewel Affix Priority

  1. % Increased Maximum Life
  2. % Increased Attack Speed with Swords
  3. % Increased Physical Damage with Swords
  4. % Increased Damage
  5. % Increased Global Critical Strike Multiplier
  6. % Increased Area Damage
  7. % Increased Melee Damage

Abyssal Jewel Affix Priority

  1. Maximum Life (at least 30)
  2. Chance to gain Onslaught on Kill (at least 5%)
  3. Chance to gain Unholy Might on Kill
  4. Any Sword damage mods

Leveling

As a reminder, we have several guides to help you level up a character.

You can level the build with Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam since level 28, it is a decent leveling skill. Prior to it, you should use Ground Slam Ground Slam.

Leveling Trees

Early on, we focus on picking Life and damage nodes that do not restrict us to one particular type of weapons, which will allow us to make use of different good leveling weapons.

Useful Leveling Unique Items

As you begin a new character, there are few unique items that can boost your power exponentially. Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa allows you to have a 6-Linked skill as early as you get the gems. Wanderlust Wanderlust gives a decent movement speed, which will make your leveling that much more efficient. Goldrim Goldrim provides a lot of elemental resistances, this will let you worry less about gearing when approaching certain Act encounters. If you do not have Oni-Goroshi Oni-Goroshi, simple unique weapons like The Screaming Eagle The Screaming Eagle and Story of the Vaal Story of the Vaal will help you get through the content.

If you are a new player (or if this is your first character for the league), then note that obtaining these items will be very difficult, if not impossible. They are rare drops, which you can otherwise only acquire if you have saved up currency, so do not focus on them too much, and instead simply look for items that match the affix priorities listed in the gearing section above.

Gem Progression

Using Tabula Rasa Tabula Rasa will allow you to have 6-Link gem setups early on, which is why we show such examples below. If you cannot get Tabula Rasa (or another item with a 6-Link), then simply prioritize the first gems in each link provided below.

In order to acquire gems that are not available to your class as a quest reward, simply ask a friend to buy them off vendors for you, or buy them yourself from Sioasa in The Library in Act III Library.

From level 1, you should use the following link.

  1. Ground Slam Ground Slam
  2. Chance to Bleed Support Chance to Bleed Support
  3. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support

At level 4, you should add Ancestral Protector Ancestral Protector and War Banner War Banner for additional single target damage.

By level 8, your Ground Slam Ground Slam link should look like this.

  1. Ground Slam Ground Slam
  2. Chance to Bleed Support Chance to Bleed Support
  3. Onslaught Support Onslaught Support
  4. Maim Support Maim Support
  5. Ruthless Support Ruthless Support
  6. Added Fire Damage Support Added Fire Damage Support

At level 10, you should add Leap Slam Leap Slam for additional mobility.

At level 16, you should add Herald of Purity Herald of Purity and Herald of Ash Herald of Ash for additional damage.

By level 18, your Ground Slam Ground Slam link should look like this.

  3. Melee Physical Damage Support Melee Physical Damage Support

At level 24, you should replace Herald of Purity Herald of Purity with Anger Anger.

At level 28, you can finally transition to your signature skill, Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam. At this point you should also replace Ancestral Protector Ancestral Protector with Ancestral Warchief Ancestral Warchief.

FAQ

Why choose Juggernaut over other ascendancy classes like Chieftain?

The Juggernaut simply has way too good of a synergy with Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam to pass on. The additional Life Regeneration also helps out with mitigating the Oni-Goroshi’s degeneration effect.

What map mods cannot be done?

Elemental Reflect and No Regeneration areas are impossible to do.

Conclusion

The Tectonic Slam Juggernaut is a beefy melee character that has the potential to clear all the content Path of Exile has to offer.

    You can make a Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam character with many of the classes, Scion is one of them for sure.

    I count 13 sockets in gears, with full kaom. Where do i put the rest? :/ show some pictures in the guide on how to equip gems and where please!

    Hey Zinizo, your main gem setups are for Tectonic Slam Tectonic Slam, Leap Slam Leap Slam and Ancestral Protector Ancestral Protector. So you basically need your Oni-Goroshi Oni-Goroshi and 2 four linked items, other gems can be used based on personal preference and you should have at least a little bit of free space.

    Since I only have 12 or 13 sockets in total when wearing tombfists…
    Or should I leave out Kaoms boots for rare?

    I wonder what’s best to do.. I will use loreweave anyways untill I can afford Kaom but after that the gems would be an issue like this :/

    Both Tombfist Tombfist and Kaom's Roots Kaom's Roots can be replaced with rares. You will not lose a huge amount of value so do not stress about it too much. Thanks for the kind feedback.

    thank you for this build. im enjoying it… other than the oni-goroshi, 2x kaom’s way, a few gems and a decent helmet, i already had all the other items. i repurposed my poets pen jugg, since they nerved the poets pens… love your guides. thanks again

    got a short question; is that one mana leech node supposed to be enough for single target? or is my dmg so bad? tooltip dmg is around 82’000 standing in the hideout and i seem to sometimes miss out on a few strikes on a single target cause my mana leeching isnt fast enough to handle the high attack speed :/ im at 101 free mana, running 3 auras; anger, hoa and war banner. im lvl 92 atm, so i still miss a few health and dmg nodes

    Hey darc888_ch, the first thing I’d recommend is dropping a single point of Life or whatever you choose on the tree and spec into another point of Mana Leech. You should be doing enough damage, the Mana Leech Rate just isn’t rapid enough to keep up with your Attack Speed as you mentioned.

    I’m somewhat new to Path, been playing it on the PS4 and got a lvl 83 Marauder. My character used to be mostly solid but the endgame maps destroy me. I’m very intrigued by your build and am curious. Roughly much health and damage does this build give you?

    Hello Zaxust, the build has enough damage and survivability for the endgame of Path of Exile when geared properly. The Juggernaut has insane damage mitigation at the moment, this combined with a decent Life pool of over 7500+ Hit Points and enough Damage should feel good in the hands of anyone.

While using Molten Strike I easily lose all my mana during combat. Is this normal? Is there an easy solution to prevent losing all my mana fairly quickly?

    Tectonic Slam and Molten Strike are very different skills that are scaled differently, you might not be dealing enough damage with Molten Strike in order to leech back your mana, also, if you are interested in a Molten Strike build I’d strongly recommend our Molten Strike Jugg build guide. I can respect that you are following a guide and trying to do your own thing but not using the recommended items or even skill will result in the character not working as intended. If you have any other questions we will be glad to help, keep experimenting.

    I followed your build at 100% when it comes on the skill tree (including help Allira) , but i notice (as the maximum lvl on game is 100) that i am going to miss 2 skills at the end. Now i am at 90 lvl , and your build suggests a total of 120 skill points. i have already used 108 skill points and i need another 12 to complete it. But i don’t see how this will be possible. As i will not earn any more skill points after 100lvl. Is there something later like a reward that gives you 2 extra skill points?

    As in every other guide, this is an example passive skill tree that does not have to be 100% followed, you can drop Life or Damage if needed. You should tailor your tree to fill your needs. When it comes to your question specifically, helping Alira is a great choice, which can be kept later on or respeced for the 2 additional passive points if you feel its worth it. The last 5 or 10 points on the passive tree will not make or break your character, as long as you’ve already got the important stuff mentioned in the passive tree section. Feel free to ask anything else, would be glad to help.

    Vvckd thx for your guide, im very tempted to go for it in Legion.
    Let me ask, how do you think its going to perform as a league starter ?
    Do you recommend spend the +10 hours farming the oni, or just buy it later and go with double scaevas instead until get the currency?

    I have the items and currency to do it in standar, but whant to try this new league…
