Ascendancy

The most optimal way to play this build leaves very little choices when it comes to the Ascendancy nodes, which I will cover in this section of the guide.

My Preferred Set-Up

The ascendancy nodes are listed in order of importance (and tied to the way you need to travel to access them).

  1. Commander of Darkness
  2. Mindless Aggression
  3. Unnatural Strength
  4. Mistress of Sacrifice

Commander of Darkness

30% resistance is a godsend during the campaign, and attack speed is king for minions. Throw in some free damage as well, and it’s a no-brainer first node.

Mindless Aggression

Minion movement speed, attack speed, cast speed and raw damage. It’s essentially a larger amount of QoL offensive stats than even Commander of Darkness. Excellent third choice.

Unnatural Strength

Full Convert to chaos is strong. Automatic Wither is even stronger, a no-brainer on low budget.

Mistress of Sacrifice.

Lots and lots of block for the minions. A large amount of block for us as well. You can put this off til later if you refuse to manually use your offering, but this will severely harm the survivability of both you and your minions.

Bandits

You will kill all of the bandits, as they provide no significant gains worthy of losing the skill points for.

Pantheon

Just like any other build, we’re looking to solve with Pantheons what we otherwise cannot. As we already have -2 flask suffixes due to The Writhing Jar The Writhing Jar, and later on Balbala, we need to get a bit creative. As such, we solve ailments with Purity of Elements Purity of Elements.
We have two options here, I’ll list some pros and cons, and you decide for yourself.

Soul of Lunaris This provides us with 1% Physical Mitigations and 1% Movement Speed per nearby enemy. It also comes with a chance to avoid projectiles and prevents chained projectiles from hitting us. This is the build’s primary, recommended Major.
Soul of Solaris This provides us with physical mitigations against a single hostile nearby. It also grants a chance to take less area damage (Slams, for instance), reduces elemental damage incoming on the first hit for a while and prevents us from getting chain-crit.

Solaris shines against singular, dangerous enemies and is a consideration if you find big, spooky mobs or bosses a problem. The primary recommendation is going to be Lunaris; however, as Chains is a mapping build at heart.

As for the minor, we will be going with Abberath, so as not to have to deal with the absolute frustration that is burning ground. But feel free to swap this to something else if you prefer; there are many strong candidates here.

MInor; Abberath – Burning ground bad. Feel free to change this if you prefer something else.
