Summary – TL;DR

As per usual, nothing matters more than capping your Elemental Resistance before anything else. This means modifiers on gear are subordinate to Resistances as long as you’re not capped. Since you’ll be running a decent amount of Unique items, it’ll be important to look out for a lot of resistances on your Rare pieces!

We’re providing you with an extensive analysis further down the page but chose to start off with an overview / recommendation.

Armour Pieces

Gearing tips

Given you’re using Rathpith Globe, it is extremely important to understand that is is your main scaling factor. This means that you shouldn’t invest into small shenanigans on gear or other expensive items before having this. The 2 main things you need on your gear, outside of capping your elemental resistances, is as much life on every piece as possible & a Rathpith to then scale critical strike chance & spell damage. After you’ve obtained those pieces, you can start looking out for optional upgrades such as increased damage modifiers, physical damage conversion, minimum frenzies, …

The only exception to this is that you really want a single item that has Life Regeneration Rate on top of the high Life (and potential resistances).

Helmet, Gloves & Boots

I decided to pull these three together because they all follow the same principle. This is buying a fractured base with fractured “Life Regeneration Rate”. You want to buy a base with T1 Life Regeneration Rate, ideally on an item with Armour & Energy Shield. If you can afford it, the higher tiered the base item is, the better.

This makes it so you can never remove the Life Regeneration rate on said item & therefore have locked in one of your affixes already leading into the fact that it makes hitting affixes significantly easier. Generally, you want to craft these items by using Screaming Essence of Envy Screaming Essence of Envy on those items. Obviously, your stopping point highly depends on your budget. When you’re crafting at the start of the league, you’re going to want to stop once you hit either high Life or a good last suffix and finish of the item with a benchcraft. When you’re later on in the league, maybe you’re hunting for that really good Resistroll & high life so you can slap on something else on the crafting bench (i.e. Damage during Flask Effect on Gloves, Physical Damage taken as Fire Damage on Helmet, …).

As for Eldritch implicits you would want to finish of your crafts with Lesser Eldritch Ichor Lesser Eldritch Ichors and Lesser Eldritch Ember Lesser Eldritch Embers to obtain following outcomes:

Item Slot Item Name
Helmet Critical Strike Chance for Spells & Physical Damage taken as Fire Damage
Gloves Fire Damage Leech & Chance to Unnerve Enemies on Hit
Boots +1 to Maximum Fire Resistance & Increased Life Regeneration Rate

Body Armour

This is a very easy slot. You want an Infernal Mantle Infernal Mantle. Lategame, ideally one that is corrupted with +2 to +4 gemlevels. Because you’re using a Vaal Firestorm, your gem is tagged with both Duration & AoE. Therefore, you could get an Infernal Mantle from the trade website which has any two implicits of +2 to socketed AoE gems, +2 to socketed Duration gems, +1 to socketed Gems (this is the same, because giving your Empower +1 levels will also increase the Firestorm with +1 meaning it is equally good, or better by a small margin because it affects supports). Whenever you obtain this base, I suggest 6 socketing & 4 linking it on the bench and afterwards hitting it with Tainted Orb of Fusing Tainted Orb of Fusings to 6-link it.

Belt

If you can afford spending some decent amount on Jewels, a well-rolled Darkness Enthroned Darkness Enthroned is probably unrivaled. You can get so much out of those belts if you have nice jewels, its unfathomable that the belt is not more popular. Anyhow, if you can’t afford good jewels & a well-rolled DE, just grabbing Life & Resistances here is fine.

Accessories

Amulet

The amulet slot uses a Xoph's Heart Xoph's Heart. Unfortunately, due to breach reworks, this item has become less accesible than it had been before but since we don’t need the upgraded version, I wouldn’t worry too much. It should still be very affordable.

Anoint

The recommended anoint is Arcane Potency, as it is the best damage notable available to us.

Rings

You’re going to be looking for Life, Attributes and Resistances here. I honestly prefer Amethyst Ring Amethyst Rings as a base because Chaos Resistance is so nice nowadays. Your ideal ring would have Life, Energy Shield, High Dexterity and or Strength and 2 really high resistances. You could then finish of the ring with something like a increased Damage craft on the crafting bench.

Weapon

Short section here, the Divinarius Divinarius is really hard to beat with a rare. You can beat it, but you’d need a mirrorworthy weapon. It’s basically thus a slot in & forget weapon. Before being able to afford a divinarius, a Singularity Singularity will get you there just fine.

However, if you’re looking to pursue upgrades. You’d would need a weapon which as the exact following affixes to beat it by approximately 10%, which isn’t nothing but should only be done if you have literally nothing else to use your currency on. Make sure that if you get to this step you check PoB for the outcome of this craft to see if it’s worth the currency to you.

Flasks

I believe flasks are highly preference-based. One isn’t just outright better than another one for specific / certain builds. Obviously, sometimes, there’s a set in stone set of Flasks you should be using just because they synergize with your build so well. I wouldn’t say those really exist in this setup, but I’d strongly advise you to stick with the setup listed here.

Regardless of which utility Flasks you go for and whether you follow our recommendations or not, you’ll need to stick to the suffixes we have picked for you. It’s okay to use lower tier rolls initially but please upgrade your flasks as you can because they’re so often undervalued and forgotten:

Our recommendation:

Slot Flask
1 Granite Flask Granite Flask of the Armadillo
2 Sulphur Flask Sulphur Flask of the Order (Regen)
3 Quartz Flask Quartz Flask of the Order (Leech)
4 Amethyst Flask Amethyst Flask of the Owl
5 Diamond Flask Diamond Flask of Incision
5 Rotgut Rotgut

Please try to follow the affixes on Flasks closely, but not blindly. You can move around the “Owl” or the “Armadillo” to another Flask as this doesn’t matter. Just get whichever one is cheapest. The Rotgut Rotgut should only be used after you have Minimum Frenzy charges as it gives you onslaught and even then is preference. You would drop the Sulphur Flask with probably the Owl suffix which makes you lose both Damage & reduction of Curse Effect as a tradeoff for more speed.

Be sure to check out our Flask Crafting Guide to learn everything you need to know about how to set up your non-Unique flasks.

Jewels

Unique Jewels

You’re only using a single unique jewel, which, sadly has become hyperexpensive, again, because of the breachrework. You need a The Red Nightmare The Red Nightmare to cap your chance to block attacks which is a vital part of the builds defense. So, whenever you have some extra currency, don’t neglect to pick this up.

Rare Jewel

You need life on every single one of the to maximize the Rathpith Globe abuse. Other than that, Firestorm basically scales from almost any damage modifier. Fire Damage, Area Damage, Crit Multi, Multi for Elemental Spells, … so you got quite a variety of affixes that work for the build.
