Scourge League Update

Please check out this page of the guide for our updates for Scourge league.

Passive Skill Tree

You can find an optimized Path of Building here. Every build I release will use the community fork of Path of Building, which is maintained and updated in a much more regular fashion than the original one. You can find PoB’s Fork, by LocalIdentity, here.

If you are not comfortable with Path of Building, we also have a PoePlanner for you. Do note that PoE Planner does not support Cluster Jewels and some specific unique jewels and it is highly recommended you install Path of Building to follow builds most optimally.

Progression Advice

Since Chaos DoT skills generally scale really well with levels, you’re always going to feel like you’re missing some damage when you’re lower level. However, through pathing efficiently, you can make the skill feel incredible even in the low 80s. Therefore, I’ll leave you with this Path of Building give you an idea as to what I would suggest your tree looks like at the beginning of maps.

If you’re not comfortable with Path of Building, here’s a PoePlanner to give you an idea of how your tree should look like whenever you’re at about that level.

Gem Links

Soulrend Soulrend – Main Link (6-Link)

Awakened Gems are really strong for this build. Therefore, upgrading to them is pretty big and should be something you work towards fast as most of them aren’t that expensive. If you’re not running Dying Sun Dying Sun and / or a Helmet Enchant you might find it better to swap out Void Manipulation for Greater Multiple Projectiles Support Greater Multiple Projectiles Support while mapping and swap back on a boss.

  1. Soulrend Soulrend
  2. Empower Support Empower Support (level 4)
  3. Awakened Swift Affliction Support Awakened Swift Affliction Support
  4. Awakened Controlled Destruction Support Awakened Controlled Destruction Support
  5. Awakened Void Manipulation Support Awakened Void Manipulation Support
  6. Efficacy Support Efficacy Support

Auras and Buffs

The build runs Malevolence for damage and Discipline for Energy Shield. Since you’re only running two Auras, you’re completing these sockets with a Vaal Blight Vaal Blight which you should pop on bosses and an Enduring Cry Enduring Cry to get you Endurance Charges. Keep the Enduring Cry on cooldown as much as possible and pop Vaal Blight on bosses to make them take increased damage.

  1. Vaal Blight Vaal Blight
  2. Enduring Cry Enduring Cry
  3. Malevolence Malevolence
  4. Discipline Discipline

Cast when Damage Taken

Since you want as much mitigation as possible, you’re using a mediocraly-leveled Cast when Damage Taken Support Cast when Damage Taken Support to mitigate some incoming damage. Since you have a free socket in a 4-Link, this also is where you Vaal Righteous Fire Vaal Righteous Fire buff goes. Make sure to pop Vaal Righteous Fire on bosses simultaneously with Vaal Blight for maximum DPS output.

  1. Cast when Damage Taken Support Cast when Damage Taken Support (level 5)
  2. Immortal Call Immortal Call (level 7)
  3. Tempest Shield Tempest Shield (level 10)
  4. Vaal Righteous Fire Vaal Righteous Fire

Wither Totems

As Wither increases your damage tremendously but also requires constant casting to keep its uptime, you’re using a Spell Totem Support Spell Totem Support to cast it for you. Drop them on the boss before you start the fight so they keep applying wither to the boss as you hit and dodge! Should they die, make sure to put them up again as they apply over 60% increased damage taken to the enemies it hits.

  1. Wither Wither
  2. Faster Casting Support Faster Casting Support
  3. Spell Totem Support Spell Totem Support
  4. Multiple Totems Support Multiple Totems Support (level 3)

Mobility #1

Because there’s a ton of downtime when fighting, and because it’s not necessarily much worse than the second mobility skill you’re using, you should use Shield Charge Shield Charge regularly as it is linked to the Fortify Support Fortify Support. Keeping up Fortify is mandatory to your Character’s survival and should not be neglected!

  1. Shield Charge Shield Charge (as high as you have Strength for)
  2. Fortify Support Fortify Support
  3. Faster Attacks Support Faster Attacks Support

Mobility #2

As Shield Charge doesn’t get you over ledges, Flame Dash Flame Dash comes to the rescue. You want to use this once every 5-10 Seconds to maintain the Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support buff! This should be your movement skill of choice while Shield Charging once every couple of seconds to keep up the Fortify. Make sure not to over level Arcane Surge as you want it to go off every time you cast a Flame Dash.

  1. Flame Dash Flame Dash
  2. Arcane Surge Support Arcane Surge Support (level 7)
  3. Second Wind Support Second Wind Support

I never said you were supposed to use 2 wands whatsoever =). The PoB is clearly using a shield! However, that somehow got cut off in the recommendations, I’ll push an update about that today.

Edit: Update Pushed! Thanks for letting me know!

This is correct. They changed that with the recent update to vendor rewards. Try to get one from someone in trade maybe. Otherwise, Orb of Storms + Stormblast mine is the way to go.

I like some of your builds I just wish you would use the regular POE skill tree, the format you use only comes up as code on my PC.

Hello, When the full patch notes come out I’d be interested in getting your opinion on the viability of this build for 3.14. They already said they are nerfing vaal RF. Is vRF still the best choice or would you replace it with something else? (https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3079632) Thanks!

The full patch notes dropped. I noticed a few changes relevant to this build.

    • Vaal Righteous Fire
Now deals 80-99% of Sacrificed Energy Shield and Life as Fire Damage per second (previously 161-180%).
Now Sacrifices 60% of your total Energy Shield and Life (previously 30%).
Now grants 10-19% more Spell Damage (previously 15-28%).
Now has a Soul Gain Prevention duration of 6 seconds (previously 12).
    • The Cluster Jewel notable Exposure Therapy now grants a +8% to Damage over Time Multiplier (previously +10%).

Didn’t have numbers so didn’t know. VRF is still fine, just a bit dangerous :P So it’s a bit like living on the edge :)

    Hey,

Just started leveling this and picking up the life regen node, then noticed we dont take zealot oath? so the life regen doesnt get used and we have no ES regen other then on kill. Im sure this is an mistake in the POB but wanted to check.

    Many thanks

it just happens to pick up a couple of regen nodes. However, that made me wonder whether its worth grabbing ZO for one point and I think it is. So I think the play is to drop the 30 strength node, use a level 1 fortify instead of a 20 (as that doesn’t matter) and drop your immortal call 1 or 2 levels so you can get by with Sub 100 strength & pick up ZO instead.

How do you deal with all that requirements for reservation from Discipline and Malevolence, btw I’m level 77 only. I have almost all the required items, also using shield from the other soulrend build 3.11 because I liked permanent onslaught.

I’m using permanent onslaught, but even if I was not I would rather switch out Enduring Cry with Infernal Cry since it gives leech damage as energy shield

Hello thx for this build i really like it .
But i have some questions if you can answer me it would be great.
1.in the new tree you don’t use chaos innoculation so you are not immune to chaos and poison is that normal?
2.if i take chaos innoculation shoul i take the big nodes 30% spell damage when low life?
3.there is 3 auras malevolence tempest shield an discipline i can only run two of them caus e 25% 28% and 50% reservation is there a solution ?
3.2 and if there is a solution how do you deal with your spell cost if all your mana is reserved?
4.my shield charge doesn’t grant me fortity when i hit ennemies ? did i do something wrong?

many thx for your time and your build i really appreciate it.<3
