Introduction

While the PoB shows you what gear we believe belongs in which budget, it might still be unclear which upgrades to prioritise and in what oder.
On this page, we will do our best to explain what we prioritise when and why. With that out of the way, let’s dive into gear progression.

Campaign

During the campaign with this build, pick up items that have the links and colours you desire and use an Orb of Alchemy Orb of Alchemy or a suitable Essence to make them rare. You’ll be hoping for Resistances when doing this, and should you end up having an open suffix on the item, the crafting bench will let you add on a second Resistance roll or an attribute roll, depending on your current needs.

Keeping your Resistances as high as possible, ensuring you have the required Attribute rolls, and securing some Life modifiers are all you need to worry about at this stage. Do keep in mind that Resistances are not very important in the first couple of acts, but become extremely crucial for your survival around Act 5 onward. Reaching the 75% cap is preferable for all 3 elements at this point. If you’re struggling with gear to reach this, temporarily replace an offensive aura with Purity of Elements Purity of Elements to help solve this problem.

Low Budget

The most important thing to note is that we do not want to play Spectres fully committed until we have a minimum of three. We achieve this by reaching Gem level 25 and pathing to Death Attunement.
For this, you will need +1 on a wand, +1 on a shield, +1 from bones of Ullr and either +2 from a helmet or +1 helmet with a level 21 gem, any combination of these works.

We are going to make the assumption that you have kept your Resistances capped going into this budget, and will be working with that assumption. If you do not have capped Resistances when hitting maps, you need to get that sorted as soon as possible. Any attributes you might need to keep levelling your gems or equip gear will also need to be sorted either via gear or by deviating slightly from the skill-tree by picking up any needed “+30 attribute” nodes on the tree. Gear-wise, pieces such as a Heavy Belt Heavy Belt and/or Jade Amulet Jade Amulet are great pieces to solve attribute issues.

Early gear

The first order of business is going to be acquiring a 6-Link with the correct colours. You should initially look for a corrupted 6-Link, as they are cheap and will provide you with some base defences.

Bones of Ullr Bones of Ullr is our next step in progression, as it is dirt cheap and provides us with +1 spectres.

Following that, our order of priority is assembling +1 modifiers on our gear as outlined at the start of the budget. You get whatever stats you get on these items. Minion Damage, Resistances, Life, Attributes, it all works.
Just make sure the wand has an open suffix for a trigger craft!

The Jinxed Juju The Jinxed Juju should make an appearance as soon as you can fit it into your build.

Our remaining jewellery will cover basic stats like Resistance, Life, and Attributes.

Darkness Enthroned Darkness Enthroned should be introduced once you’ve acquired some jewels and you can cover your Resistances on remaining items. A rare belt can be used for a time as it makes it easier to cover Resistances, but should be replaced by Darkness Enthroned as soon as possible.
If you’re struggling with Resistances, you can always run a Ghastly Eye Jewel Ghastly Eye Jewel with a Resistance roll (preferably all elemental Resistance).

Unending Hunger Unending Hunger has a slightly volatile pricing. In some leagues, it’s very cheap; in some leagues, it’s very expensive. Keep an eye on it and acquire one as soon as you can.

If you have not already, it is high time you fixed your flasks. This is one of the most commonly overlooked things by newer players.

This concludes our journey through Low Budget.

Medium Budget

The first thing we want to do, if your budget permits, is to acquire “The Dark Monarch” helmet of the spectre variety to stock up on Spectres. This would mean we discard all of our non-Spectre minions, but it means way more Spectres and therefore is a buff!

Medium budget is reasonably flexible in which item is upgraded when, but if you have not acquired a level 21 Raise Spectre Raise Spectre, I would suggest you do so right now.

Acquiring a chest with +1 to your maximum number of Spectres is something you should prioritise early. It will help make sure you can maintain a comfortable amount of projectile vomiting, spider-bros.

A +2 wand with decent minion damage and trigger should be prioritised reasonably high.

Ideally, we want to be able to run two minion rings, Bone Ring Bone Ring and Gloam Ring. Both of these have Minion Damage and Attack/Cast Speed. Along with suffixes, we need Resistances and Attributes. This might be too tall an ask; if it is, you compromise on the minion damage or drop that mod altogether.

A better shield is worth considering at this point, as there are a lot of potentially great modifiers to get here.

Other than that, make sure to polish up the flasks and upgrade your Ghastly Eye Jewels and have fun.

High Budget

In the high-budget build, things get a bit more complex.
We want to move into using Wretched Defilers, but there are a solid few things we need to assemble before this is worth doing. I would suggest you gather everything explicitly mentioned here before you start playing with it.

The first is Doryani's Prototype Doryani's Prototype. This will, once we build around it, turbocharge the lightning spiders (wretched defilers).
For this item to function properly, we will need to reduce our Lightning Resistance into the negatives which would normally make Lightning damage lethal. This is where a lot of the pieces in this set come in: solving this problem.

The first piece we need is a Sublime Vision Sublime Vision with Purity of Ice Mod, rolled to maximum.
The second is a Watcher's Eye Watcher's Eye with the purity of Ice Modifier “20% of Fire and Lightning damage taken as cold while affected by Purity of Ice”.
The third is a Glorious Vanity Glorious Vanity jewel, bathed in the blood of X# sacrificed in the name of Xibaqua. This gives us a modifier that causes 50% of all elemental damage we take to be taken as chaos. 50 +30 +20 = 100. So we no longer take any Lightning damage, thus removing the downside of Doryani.
The Fourth (and optional) one is The Light of Meaning The Light of Meaning with Chaos Resistance. This helps cap our Chaos Resistance. If you can chaos resistance without this jewel, life or armour are options to add more tank. Running a good Ghastly eye over it is ofc an option.

Having solved Doryani’s problems, it is time to make Doryani strong. For this, we need rings that tank our Lightning Resistance drastically.
The easiest way to do this is to buy a reflected ring with massive negative Lightning Resistance and using Kalandra's Touch Kalandra's Touch to get a second copy of it.

That’s the Doryani package, the rest is numerical and not mechanically super important:

  • A Better +2 wand.
  • Good Ghastly Eye Jewels, High Lightning/Life/Cast speed.
  • A meta minion cluster, 35% effect +3#% cast speed + Life + Chaos Resistance. Getting all of these will likely be rough, so skimp on the Life if you have to.
  • Preferably, a second meta cluster with the same modifiers except attributes instead of Chaos Resistance.
