INTRODUCTION

The build is abusing certain mechanics surrounding self-cursing which will barely if at all affect us and allow us to deal significant amounts of damage. The details about these mechanics that we will be abusing is listed in the guide!

Since this is a very niche play-style I would strongly recommend watching the video linked below to see if it’s something you’d find enjoyable to play.

BUILD OVERVIEW

In this section I will outline the pros, cons, & the general play-style. This will allow you to determine if the build is for you or not!

PROS

+ High Sustaining – Due to the nature of this build sustaining our defensive layers is very effective as the tools are provided by the ascendancy as well as skill-tree choices.

+ League Starter – The only mandatory item is generally very cheap early in a league.

+ Bosser – The damage output this build can achieve even in low budget is completely absurd.

CONS

Squishy – The build is not designed to face-tank enemies and can in lower levels of gear feel somewhat squishy, careful play-style negates this issue.

PLAY-STYLE

The play-style is based around summoning a massive amount of spell totems that will cast your spells, by doing so we are self-crusing ourselves due to the Soul Mantle Soul Mantle which we are negating the curse effects with a variety of tools.

DAMAGE SCALING AND DEFENSIVE LAYERS

Since the build does solely cold damage and scales of crits we are consistently chilling & freezing enemies which results in them being shattered. This is a very effective offensive mechanic that also provides a defensive layer against monsters such as Porcupines & Bone Husks, due to them being shattered. Since we are using Soul Mantle Soul Mantle we will consistently curse ourselves this allows us to use the Self-Flagellation Self-Flagellation jewel to skyrocket our damage gain by doing so. To counter the massive amount of curses we are applying to ourselves we have a couple of options, the cheap one being 2x Kikazaru Kikazaru coupled with the Soul of Yugul pantheon power to reach 100% curse effectiveness reduction. Do keep in mind that curse rolled maps in red tier maps will still affect you with a super small curse, this means that to avoid being below elemental resistance vs an Elemental Weakness rolled map you’ll need 15% fire, cold & lightning resistance above the cap! The other options are a bit more expensive and comes in the form of either: Viridi’s Veil or Atziri's Reflection Atziri's Reflection.

LEVELING

It is recommended to level this build by self-casting your abilities till you’re able to spec Ancestral Bond, once you have this you’re able to utilize totems all the way from there.

BEFORE YOU GO TOTEMS

Generic spell abilities before totems comes in play:

Once you reach level 4 you are able to get Holy Flame Totem Holy Flame Totem:

  1. Holy Flame Totem Holy Flame Totem
  2. Added Fire Damage Support Added Fire Damage Support
  3. Added Lightning Damage Support Added Lightning Damage Support

This works very well together with Flame Wall Flame Wall

The Aura decision comes in Act 2, which is when we enable Herald of Ice Herald of Ice, Herald of Thunder Herald of Thunder & Herald of Ash Herald of Ash.

Once you get access to the Ancestral Bond Keystone you can continue using the Holy Flame Totem or you can change further down the road to Freezing Pulse Freezing Pulse when you get access to First Snow First Snow in act 5 as you get free extra projectiles to further scale your clearing speed.

    Hi there, thanks for the build! I enjoyed it a lot! Still have a lot of optimizations items wise for my build, but at level 80 in yellow maps so far. Really fun.

    I ran this for 3.15 and it feels great damage wise, but at times really squishy. The new league makes everything harder to kill and that makes it even harder to survive at times.

    My question is what would be the best solution for more survivability?

    Honestly, this build scales so well with crit which thanks to doing cold damage allows for consistent freezing which provides an insanely effective defensive layer. But I do agree that surviving with most if not all builds is harder in 3.15 than it ever was.

    I’m following this guide, but I can’t understand how Yugul helps us with self-cursing.

    EDIT: Ghazzy helped me with this. Yugil gives 20% once upgraded. POB and the wiki are out of date and give the wrong info regarding this pantheon power.

    Yugul has 3 effects:

    Upper both: 25% reduced reflected damage for you and your minions and 50% chance to reflect enemy chills and freezes
    lower one: 20% reduced effect of curses on you.

    If you have 1 Divine Vessel, you can combine it with a map where the Boss is for Yugul to unlock the the lower one of Yuguls effects.

    question about survivability:
    Will it be any god to you if you get wicked ward and anoint heart of ice to get the “0,2% cold dam. leeched as ES” and does it work with totems

    Well you’re then forced to use the Spell Totem support till you’re able to get yourself the Soul Mantle! :)

    Eadred & Livius:

    Basically what Livius is referring to and as I stated earlier when we spoke; You have to upgrade the Yugul pantheon to reach 100%, however, Sanctum of Thoughts (3p node cluster) on the left hand side between Marauder & Templar start will provide the remaining 20% till you’ve upgraded the Pantheon (or skip curse maps till you’ve upgraded it).

    The leech would not apply to use since we are essentially not the ones doing the damage!

    Hi,

    can anyone explain what the point of second wind in the arcane cloak setup is?

    It’s not instant, so no extra charge, and unless you get the gem to 25+ it’s just a reduction to the cooldown speed…

    and about FP vs IS: FP clear IS bossing? or is IS viable for claer later?

    I think the Second Wind Gem is just to reduce the cooldown of Arcane Cloak.

    FP is JUST for clearing because the clear speed with IS is damn low even with the unique jewel Rain of Splinters.

    This is true, it’s an oversight on my end. I still use Second Wind on mobility skills it actually feels rather ok. But for Arcane Cloak this is true. I’ll be taking a round on all my guides tomorrow to adjust this among a few other minor things in PoB’s. Any other mistake you see, please poke me asap and I’ll have it sorted!

    Well the res test jewel should probably not be in the pob, but a second treshold jewel instead.

    Oh, and CWDT setup also has a useless second wind.

    otherwise everything seems ok in the budget version at least

    Hello, I am having a strange issue that is possibly me just being a noob but my damage for freezing pulse doubles the damage that ice spear puts out. Granted, my build is nowhere near finished but I just find it strange and wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing this or if there was a common mistake I am making or something.

    The resistance test jewel is for people to check the actual eHP values in PoB. I can see how that can be somewhat confusing so I’ll consider removing it. A second threshold jewel is not needed as it will only affect Freezing Pulse where 1 is more than enough for consistent high efficient clearing, since we are switching to Ice Spear the threshold jewel provides no value which is why we don’t want to use more than 1 or it would create a scenario where we would prefer to switch the jewels before a boss fight as well which would be very annoying.

    @DocSTN:

    Once you get crit going it is important that you check the “second form” of ice spear as that is where the damage kicks in by reaching 100% crit chance. It is very possible that your Ice Spear is showing less dmg if you are checking it vs the “first form” which deals significantly less damage!

    @Livius:

    Efficacy Support Efficacy Support seems to be the best option as it is literally just a filler, ultimately you could might as well have a portal gem in there with how little efficacy provides. I couldn’t find any other gem switches that would make much sense.

    Oh and another question. I would like to add Cluster jewel to this build.

    There aren’t that much notables for totems. In my opinion just 5:

    Ancestral Echo: gives 20% totem placement speed and 10% attack/cast speed
    Ancestral Inspiration: gives Arcane Surge if you place a totem and spells casted by a totem have 25% increased dmg.
    Ancretral Might: 20% totem dmg, 30% totem duration, 30% dmg if no totem summoned ln the past 2 sec.
    Ancestral Reach: 25% totem dmg, 25% totem placement speed, 25% placement range.
    Snaring Spirits: 30% totem dmg, totems hinder enemys near totem with 25% reduced movement speed.

    Only 1 is being used in the guide.

    I think you’ll need to check them in PoB to verify which would be the strongest combination tbh, I didn’t like adding clusters to this build as it demands such a wide spread on the tree but there are a few styles for the higher budget investment that would work well. My personal enjoyment of this build is the value behind the strength of this builds performance on low budget.
